ARCHIVED Endoscopy Without Blood Tests?
GottaSki replied to MChase's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like he is ordering blood tests on the same day as the procedures. Perhaps call his office before the procedure to make sure this is happening. Not all GIs have experience and/or training in celiac disease. I think we have given you the list included in a full celiac panel, but if not let us know. Yes, EGD is an endoscopy. Do make sure... -

ARCHIVED 2-3 Days For A Glutening Reaction?!
GottaSki replied to CajunChic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! A couple thoughts: Ask your doctor for written or electronic copies of your blood tests along with both the procedural AND pathology reports from your endoscocpy. If the results do not make sense to you - post them here. Your doctor's statement is not enough - Celiac Disease is completely manageable, yet with serious complications should... -
ARCHIVED Test Results
GottaSki replied to Hinsopa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Test #1 is the Total Serum IgA which is run to make sure you have enough IgA for test #2 the tTG-IgA to be accurate. Your tTG-IgA is possitive. A complete celiac antibody panel should be run. Were you diagnosed by these two tests alone? If more testing is yet to be done, don't remove gluten until they are complete. As for severity...the amount of antibodies... -

Motion is always good...but when in pain I wouldn't push the sweat factor. Consistent moderate exercise until you are feeling stronger with less pain. -

GottaSki replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
She needs to be seen by a doctor. Primary, Endocronologist or Gynocologist (if "endless Pd" means period) -- just get in soon. Suggest including complete thyroid testing. Most important is get in....ask to speak with a nurse if the appointment scheduler tries to make your friend wait...and always ask for written or electronic copies of all tests. Good... -
The GI (if well versed in celiac) will likely order the rest of the panel: Total Serum IgA which is a control test to make sure you have sufficient IgA for the IgA antibody tests to be accurate. DGP - both IgA and IgG Along with nutrient testing as celiac prevents proper absorption of many key vitamins and nutrients. Talk with your doctors about adding...

ARCHIVED Got My Bone Density Test Results Today
GottaSki replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had very weak tendons/ligaments my entire life...trick knees that would pop out if the wind blew the wrong way...very weak ankles...etc. I was a long listance runner until my early 20s when my knees would no longer allow running. Was able to ski all these years with tight patella straps....I still use them for skiing, but all of my joints have improved... -
ARCHIVED Got My Bone Density Test Results Today
GottaSki replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mine was very bad at age 44 and much improved after 2.5 years gluten-free. Slated to retest again at my five year mark. Bone is replaced -- completely after five years -- live completely gluten-free and consistent/regular exercise will strengthen your bones. I also supplemented with Calcium/D3. Of note...I had a very weak back for several decades... -
ARCHIVED Sick From Evergood Sausages Or Dove Dark Chocolate Bar
GottaSki replied to vallene45's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My vote is preservatives -- some of the more natural and labeled gluten free brands have very high nitrate levels...but because the nitrate is in the form of celery based items they are allowed to label them - "no added nitrates". Perhaps try another brand of sausage? -
ARCHIVED Adam's Peanut Butter
GottaSki replied to D-borealis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would try another brand that is labeled gluten free -- if there is still issue it may be an issue with peanuts. Perhaps try almond butter? Perhaps you have already seen this, but thought I'd add if anyone following along has issue with Adams PB: Open Original Shared Link The Adams Website's FAQs states: Does Adams Peanut Butter contain... -

ARCHIVED Joint Pain
GottaSki replied to w8in4dave's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I researched this quite a bit and found that neither anti-caking or mold inhibitors in pre-shredded cheese contain gluten -- as Peter asked if you have found a recent source that any of these products contain gluten...please provide info. If you are having a reaction to these products you may be sensitive to the additives....but that does not mean they... -

ARCHIVED Test Results/symptoms Questions?
GottaSki replied to sis76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Make sure you get a written or electronic copy of your tests. Often docs will run only one of the antibody tests included in a full celiac panel. Once you are certain you had: Total Serum IgA tTG - both IgA and IgG EMA - IgA DGP - IgA and IgG and they were all negative...it is time to remove ALL gluten for 3-6 months to monitor... -

ARCHIVED Getting Desperate
GottaSki replied to Eclara's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Food/Symptom Journal is essential. I also second the trying simple baked chicken or bone broth to start with cooked vegies...raw can be tough on a damaged digestive system. Try eating just plain meat and vegies with a small amount of fruit for a week to see if you improve...if you can get your system to settle then add one food (whole food, not food group... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Night Vision
GottaSki replied to PCB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Very interesting. Cooking does increase the antioxident level of the tomato: Open Original Shared Link But I suspect the cooking of the tomato breaksndown the lectin content thereby allowing you to digest without reaction. For me - I can eat heirloom tomato sauce with much less reaction than raw tomato - my reaction to all nightshades are muscle/joint...- 50 replies
