  1. I do not have an official diagnosis as such...we have ruled out Mastocytosis, yet I have ALL the symptoms. I do have positive 24 hour histamine and prostaglandins and am working with both Allergy and Celiac Doc to figure out a protocol that will work to bring my mast cell symptoms under control. For me, I don't see a need for a clinical diagnosis - IF...
  2. Welcome Melisa and Allison! While each of her symptoms throughout her health history could be attributed to many conditions, I can tell you ALL of them can be caused by Celiac Disease. The malabsorption of nutrients caused by Celiac can effect any system in the body. Personally, I had many of her symptoms as a child including severe inner ear and...
  3. Interesting question. Since there is no one protocol that works for everyone with mast cell disorders, I don't think this is a yes or no question. If limiting high histamine and histamine inducing foods along with antihistamines and mast cell stabilizers helps the body from reacting to triggers by limiting the amount of histamine and other mediators...
  4. Agreed! Wow...will be great when this test is available for all
  5. Let us know if we can help...Preparing limited whole foods is actually a great way to get used to cooking as there are not many ingredients to worry about. I'll PM you so I don't turn this into a cooking thread
  6. Looks beautiful and yummy Addy! Arlene...bummer about the theft - we've lost two vehicles and had three break ins -- we live in a very nice neighborhood, but our cars are in the drive as hubs shop took over our garage when we moved in 23 years ago! I HATE thieves I do however LOVE coconut oil...I use it daily for everything Today was an even...
  7. Just showed one of my sons -- he will be trying something like this very soon...I'm thinking I may need to do a sweet potato version at some point as well!
  8. Oh man...it is tough to remove all the no, no's....I can tell you it gets easier... I started an elimination diet geared to Autoimmune Disease back in August 2011 because we couldn't identify any specific additional intolerances during my first two years gluten free -- LOL...upon trial I ended up intolerant of everything except eggs (which I lost later...
  9. Hi Blaze! Celiac Disease causes the small intestine to become permeable so it is technically "leaky gut". Once damaged the small intestine can have a very tough time processing many types of foods until it is healed. Not sure how long you've been gluten-free...so it may simply be a matter of giving the strict gluten-free diet a chance to start healing...
  10. Annually is sufficient since your numbers have already shown improvement. At this point your body is likely a better indicator of when you accidentally ingest gluten. Minor glutening and cross contamination is not a reason to get tested...simply a reminder of how careful we need to be. Take care
  11. Welcome! Frequent diarrhea is not normal, I strongly agree with removing all gluten after testing is complete for at least 6 months. Couple other things to keep in mind...not everyone with Celiac Disease is short and underweight...we and our children come in all sizes. I was overweight rather than underweight and my children and grands were all in...
  12. No, this does not always co-exist with celiac disease...but for those of us with symptoms that do not improve or with intolerances that continue to increase (both in items and severity)...it is certainly a possibility. and yes, it could be the reason for mysterious "allergic" reactions - sometimes called "Idiopathic Anaphylaxis" (anaphylaxis with no known...
  13. Thanks Irish and Dr. Jess! I too figured this out in the year since I realized histamine was a big part of my puzzle. It is tough to get diagnosed...but heck many of us with these symptoms are used to doing our own research. I love that Dr. Jess has organized this info to be found in one spot...took me quite awhile to find it all on my own. Now...
  14. Welcome! You are not alone -- many of us were diagnosed very late and suffered for years with symptoms dismissed or misdiagnosed by our doctors. The anger is valid, but will pass as you continue to improve. I wish you a speedy recovery, but it can take time for all symptoms to improve -- let us know if you have questions. Oh...if you haven...
  15. Welcome Karla! The doctor that answered your question does not seem to have enough training/experience in Celiac Disease to have answered your question and is wrong. While positive biopsy was thought to be the "gold standard" it is not conclusive. With familial history, positive tTG-IgA and symptom improvement on a gluten-free diet would indicate...
  16. Happy New Year Dinner Peeps! Nothing to report from my kitchen...but wanted to wish everyone a wonderful new year filled with yummy treats. I'm up and walking once per day, removed all supplements/meds as they were not helping me improve AT ALL. For now I'm just going to concentrate on walking every day and hope that gets everything moving in the...
  17. Welcome! Is it possible that your wife has not removed all gluten from her diet? Many of us become quite irritable when we accidentally ingest gluten. Both of you should read this thread to see if her diet is as strict as needed: Newbie Info 101 - Celiac Disease - Coping With - Celiac.com Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Forum Hang in...
  18. Hip Hip Hooray! This is fantastic news and I am thrilled to join in your joy
  19. So happy So happy to hear of your improvement. I'm another that discovered histamine intolerance about a year ago after having increasing allergic type reactions to an increasing number of foods along with environmental triggers - some to the point of anaphylaxis - since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease back in 2009. My doctors and I have...
  20. Welcome Theresa and Hubs I sent you a PM, rather than respond on this thread. Hope it helps. Feel free to start your own thread as there are many members that have experience with Fibro type and other autoimmune symptoms that remain after removing gluten. Hang in there!
  21. Welcome! Early days are tough...and learning to order out safely is one of the most awkward things. Since you love to cook...take food along for now. Your friends and loved ones will become comfortable quickly with this. Simply tell your server you are unable to safely eat off their menu and that you brought your own...keep it simple and be sure to...
  22. Plain coffee is good. Flavored coffees and creamers need to be checked for safe ingredients - every time. As Karen mentioned there are other reasons folks cant drink plain coffee, gluten is not one of them.
  23. Regardless of diagnosis, the fact that you had many symptoms improve after removing gluten indicates you can't tolerate it. Make sure you are not getting any gluten from processed foods and are preventing cross-contamination. If you haven't read this thread - it contains valuable information regarding getting the gluten out: Newbie Info 101 - Celiac...
  24. Welcome! The Total Serum IgA is simply a test to make sure you have enough IgA to make the IgA based celiac antibody tests accurate. Do you have the range specified for thiss result of 90? Did you have any celiac antibody tests run? If you were mostly gluten-free before any celiac antibody tests, the results could be inaccurate. Additionally, your...
  25. I have had that happen when I added honey and cocoa. After that I returned to just roasting the almonds and processing until it is butter. Sometimes I mix honey in just before eating, but no longer do in the food processor. Maybe someone with better luck can help us both
