GottaSki replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

This is good news...looking forward to hearing more of doctors that are learning correct details of Celiac Disease It's very good to make sure there are not other issues causing the slow rise of Vit K...but thought I'd let you know it took 18 months for all of my levels to rise to normal...so sometimes it just takes more time. Thanks for sharing... -

ARCHIVED Not Sure What I Have
GottaSki replied to glux's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me....itching comes last during exercise reaction and is rare, but itching is definately a release of histamine during exercise (more precisely...the body's inability to process/manage histamine that is released during exercise). For me i first turn bright red...this got worse as the decades piled up. In my twenties and thirties I became extremely lethargic... -
I agree with Colleen and Irish....ditch everything processed before removing other foods.

ARCHIVED Celiac It Is
GottaSki replied to ArPlasma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Absolutely...we were extremely happy to finally have a diagnosis. It is a very good feeling to realize we can improve our health by changing the foods we eat rather than more invasive medical treatments or medications! Congratulations on the completion of a tough process...glad to hear your little one is improving...keep up the great work -

I love Paul's sore throat analogy too...this could very well why you are reacting to so many foods. But also wanted to second Colleen's suggestion to look into Histamine Intolerance. All of the foods you listed above -- along with tomato and cheese that I'm assuming were in both gluten-free pizza and mexican -- are either high in histamine or trigger... -
ARCHIVED Tax Deduction For Celiacs!
GottaSki replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I looked into the tax deduction my first year gluten free when our family's grocery bill skyrocketed...it was too much documentation then and I doubt it has become any easier in the past four years. Over the years we have greatly reduced the quantity of labeled gluten free items as our diet migrated to less and less processed foods. The only items consistently... -

ARCHIVED Does Too Much Gluten In The Diet Cause Celiac Disease To Be Triggered In The First Place?
GottaSki replied to glutenmaestro's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, eating gluten does not cause Celiac Disease. Celiac disease can trigger at any point in a person's life....any amount of gluten once Celiac Disease is triggered is harmful. If you had no symptoms until a point you were eating more gluten....you might consider this...perhaps the increase alerted you to the issue...thus preventing further complications- 8 replies

ARCHIVED Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (Mcas)
GottaSki replied to IrishHeart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Since many of the histamine food lists have conflicting info, I thought I'd post a link to this list: Open Original Shared Link While not perfect...I prefer this list because it reflects how much histamine is in foods along with those foods that liberate histamine within the body. -
ARCHIVED Do Celiac Symptoms Go Away Or Change With Time?
GottaSki replied to simplemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It would be a good idea, but I would not say it is easier and not necessarily better...not all dermatologists have experience with the biopsy for Dermatitis Herpetiformis which must be done next to the lesion. I strongly advise completing a celiac antibody blood panel while you are consuming gluten and if the rash returns having it biopsied. Limiting... -

ARCHIVED Introduction As We Are Newly gluten-free
GottaSki replied to Jeepfreak81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome Jeepfreak and wife! I also strongly suggest having a complete celiac antibody panel. If your wife has Celiac Disease, her health will only get worse with time. Just an interesting aside...I thought I had an issue with beef, like steak for the last couple decades prior to diagnosis -- turns out I was intolerant of everything else I was eating... -
ARCHIVED Do Celiac Symptoms Go Away Or Change With Time?
GottaSki replied to simplemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, symptoms can change. I would vote for having a complete celiac antibody panel given that you are consistently eating gluten right now. Some children don't test positive for antibodies...so I wouldn't base your decision on your child's tests. Simply explain to your doctor that you have numerous symptoms that could be celiac and you would like... -

GottaSki replied to CommaHolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Holly! It's okay to cry....it is extremely frustrating to be continually dismissed by doctors for normal results. Except for anemia and low vitamin D I never had a positive blood test until I was finally tested for Celiac. Not everyone with celiac is underweight.....I was overweight while eating very well with significant exercise my entire... -
Welcome JustGF! The good news is that once the transition is complete it gets much easier. It is great that your symptoms were not severe...you are still young and will heal now that you are living gluten-free. Good luck with your upcoming check...let us know how it goes

You have repeatedly demonstrated and admitted to the unknown causing great anxiety. We have explained that once you remove gluten you lose the best opportunity for accurate testing. There is nothing wrong with moving on to removing gluten...if you choose this route...fantastic, but do it with the understanding that if your health improves you may...
