ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac / Intolerance?
GottaSki replied to Mad Maxx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Maxx! Unfortunately, your story is not unusual here. Which blood tests were run for Celiac? Often docs don't run the entire celiac panel. GI did a scan, but no endoscopic biopsies. With your symptoms, nutrient deficiencies and a sister with Celiac Disease....sure sounds like Celiac is a very real possibility. There are folks that... -
ARCHIVED Does Too Much Gluten In The Diet Cause Celiac Disease To Be Triggered In The First Place?
GottaSki replied to glutenmaestro's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A person that is neither celiac or gluten sensitive can stop and start eating gluten without issue. If a person removes gluten for a period of time and then has adverse reaction when they resume eating gluten they either have an allergy, intolerance or Celiac Disease. Forgive me, it seems you are struggling with accepting your diagnosis. How long...- 8 replies

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Blood Levels To Drop To Normal Range?
GottaSki replied to amcclain32's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Another thought...perhaps add nutrient testing if the doctors haven't ordered yet. If he is continually ingesting enough gluten to prevent complete healing, he may be deficient in some nutrients: CMP B6, B12, D, K, Iron, Ferritin, Copper and Zinc Just another piece of the puzzle. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Blood Levels To Drop To Normal Range?
GottaSki replied to amcclain32's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Again, everyone is different...but generally it takes continued exposure to have levels rise, not one accidental gluten exposure. Just my opinion, is his levels have consistently come down -- I'd be more concerned if they were moving both up and down. It is tough to know, but getting the rest of the antibody tests may help to pinpoint if there is... -

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Blood Levels To Drop To Normal Range?
GottaSki replied to amcclain32's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome! I'm assuming these numbers are all for tTG-IgA? 113 is a high starting point and each of his checks have consistently come down....it can take a very long time to become normal and the rate of decrease is different for everyone. Most return to normal within the first year -- but not all. Has he had a complete celiac antibody panel during... -

ARCHIVED To Biopsy Or Not On Our 3 Year Old
GottaSki replied to Nebraskamommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow...that a GI at a children's hospital would call IgG celiac antibody tests crap and dismiss the need for the test that specifically indicates if the body is reacting to one of the peptides specific to the protein of gluten is...well...very sad and incorrect. You've done all you can for now. Do make sure you remove all gluten and keep a log of symptom... -

GottaSki replied to Nebraskamommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Great. Glad you'll have a full panel before removing gluten. Also, be sure to have a full panel run again at six months gluten-free. If the antibodies drop significantly and his symptoms resolve gluten-free that should be sufficient to diagnose Celiac Disease. As for family members, you can ask your GP to order complete celiac panels for you based... -
ARCHIVED To Biopsy Or Not On Our 3 Year Old
GottaSki replied to Nebraskamommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I disagree. This child has low IgA and should at least have DGPs run before removing gluten again. Because he does have some IgA I think it wise to run both DGP-IgA and DGP-IgG. While the IgA is likely be negative, why not run the complete panel? I do agree that the biopsy is a choice you have, but make it after you have had a complete celiac panel... -

Tried to buy them in San Diego...we are not one of the test markets...I'm told Riverside was the closest test market in SoCal. The cookie mom I spoke with said she has had several requests for them so hopefully next year they'll carry them nationwide. ARCHIVED Weak Positive, Negative Biopsy
GottaSki replied to Teetee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good plan...be sure to have your celiac antibody panel drawn again before you trial gluten again in 6 months. Really the only follow up needed is annual antibody panel/nutrient levels after the first six month check as long as you improve gluten-free....your GP should be able to do this for you. Oh and make sure you obtain written copies of the endoscopic... -
