ARCHIVED Celiac Disease + Mastocytosis + Leaky Gut + Normal Food Allergies?
GottaSki replied to misslasagna's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Welcome Diana! Ok...where to start. Celiac Disease destroys the villi of the small intestine -- effectively creating a "leaky gut". For some with Celiac Disease - removing gluten is not enough to heal. Sometimes it is just dairy or corn, etc. Then there are some of us that have many intolerances and/or allergic type reactions that seam to increase... -
Yes, removing gluten allows your small intestine to heal which allows your body to absorb all the nutrients needed to improve symptoms present throughout the body...not just the digestive system Added bonus....many that remove gluten have marked improvement in symptoms of ALL autoimmune disorders - RA and Fibro included.

ARCHIVED New Here With Questions About Symptoms
GottaSki replied to firemutt45's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Scott! Everyone is different, but it is not uncommon to feel worse for a while after removing gluten. I had improvement with digestive symptoms at first but my joint/muscle pain and brain fog got worse. It is difficult to predict how long it will take...are you being careful to avoid all sources of gluten -- cross contamination in your home... -
ARCHIVED Something Is Not Quite Right.
GottaSki replied to BeHappy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As time gluten-free increases many of us become more sensitive to minute amounts of gluten or develop intolerance to different foods. Since you have already removed dairy I would start by making sure this is not an issue of CC within your home. Perhaps have the entire family eat gluten-free within the home for at least three months? Gluten eaters would... -

ARCHIVED I'm Finally Getting Tested!
GottaSki replied to Madison-Marie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! It is a good idea to be tested for Celiac Disease given many of your symptoms can be associated. Have you been tested for other autoimmune disorders? If not, I highly suggest blood tests for inflammation and Sjogren's antibodies. Sjogren's Syndrome can cause eyes and mouth to be dry. Do not remove gluten until you are sure testing is complete... -

ARCHIVED Reimagining Eating Gluten Free
GottaSki replied to Dhiggins's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
When I first read your post I dismissed it for two reasons. First, you sound like you work for a marketing firm. Second, this is not a philosophical issue for those of us that did not choose to remove gluten. It is a physiological issue. We cannot ingest gluten - period. Imagine gluten is broken glass...now answer all the questions you posed... -

Not to worry...took me a while....perhaps longer than you...but my gluten-free birthday cakes are just as tasty (many times even better) as the gluten-filled ones and the love of decorating to make a gift of those cakes...well...that is the same with or without gluten -

ARCHIVED Need Advice About What To Ask For
GottaSki replied to cmc811's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't worry too much yet...I found this webpage on Celiac for Seattle Children's: Open Original Shared Link Under the causes and diagnosis sections it clearly states that family members need to be tested and the testing includes antibodies to gluten and other proteins. If your Ped talked with a GI that does not specialize in Celiac and NCGS they... -
ARCHIVED Over 25 Years Of Chasing A Diagnosis, Please Help, Elevated Ttg Iga
GottaSki replied to rcheltrvel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Rachel! My biggest complaint to every flipping doctor for over 25 years was that I was heavier than I should be for what I ate and how active I was. As a child I was always chubby even though I ate fairly well and walked to and from school every day - one mile up an 800' elevation change. In my teens, like many teen girls I did not eat enough and...- 71 replies

ARCHIVED Need Advice About What To Ask For
GottaSki replied to cmc811's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Grrrrr "Overall medical evidence shows (not just one study", yet she is dismissing the need for a complete celiac antibody panel and is in fact basing her decision on one single test result -- and leaving multiple symptoms without diagnosis. It is very simple to read a DGP test...the lab gives a range and if the antibodies are higher than that range... -
ARCHIVED Over 25 Years Of Chasing A Diagnosis, Please Help, Elevated Ttg Iga

Symptoms. Your story is very familiar here, plus I had many of the same symptoms as you. Below I've edited your post to symptoms I had for decades that became increasingly severe as time went on. I had a few more that you didn't have which is common...there are over 300 symptoms associated with Celiac. The problem is they are not specific to Celiac....- 71 replies

ARCHIVED Over 25 Years Of Chasing A Diagnosis, Please Help, Elevated Ttg Iga
GottaSki replied to rcheltrvel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Yes, you likely have Celiac Disease and you are not alone. Unfortunately, many of us went undiagnosed, misdiagnosed or had our symptoms dismissed for years. Might not seem like it right now, but that positive tTG-IgA may have saved your life....or at least has given you the opportunity to greatly improve your health. I know it's frustrating...- 71 replies

ARCHIVED Question About Celiac Blood Test Results- Advice Needed.
GottaSki replied to Jennifer81's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is not a complete celiac antibody panel (blood tests). Missing were: tTG-IgG EMA-IGA - this is usually run with positive tTG-IgA...I would insist on it as yours was elevated. DGP-IgA DGP-IgG Make sure you do not remove gluten until you are sure testing is complete. Hang in there -

ARCHIVED The Doctor Is Puzzled.. Need Your Help!
GottaSki replied to itsmebiancap's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Celiac Panel can mean different things. I'm suggesting you check that all of these were completed: Total Serum IgA tTG-IgA tTG-IgG EMA-IgA DGP-IgA DGP-IgG If they were all negative/normal you had a complete celiac antibody panel. If you didn't have them all and are still eating enough gluten per day, you might consider completing celiac... -
ARCHIVED The Doctor Is Puzzled.. Need Your Help!
GottaSki replied to itsmebiancap's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Since you mentioned many symptoms disappearing after removing gluten...you are likely NCGS (Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitive) which shares many symptoms with Celiac Disease and does require removing all gluten. You might want to check exactly which celiac blood tests were run...if you are still consuming gluten regularly perhaps you should have another antibody... -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Cause Other Intolerances?
GottaSki replied to supersquatchy's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yes, but a person can be intolerant of eggs, dairy or any other food without having Celiac Disease. Did you receive your results? Decide that you were definitely not having an endoscopy? If so, how many days/weeks have you been gluten-free now? During the first days, weeks and even months gluten-free a person's system can react to almost anything...
