  1. yes yes yes a thousand times yes. go gluten free and you will feel better. Don't wait for the doctor
  2. Grab yourself a one burner hotplate. it's amazing what you can make with a single pot. An easy one is gluten free pasta( you must learn to not over cook it or it will turn to mush), Canned tomatoes, and fresh chesse(I used parmasen, or romanno) and a pinch of salt and pepper. As a celiac you have to remember When in doubt leave it out. Keep it fresh,...
  3. I'm sorry to hear that your realtionship ended. But the bottom line is that he was poisoning you.You are better off with out him.
  4. Bri, you know how much better you feel eating gluten free, so ask yourself, "do I want to be sick or feel better?" I had no problem going gluten free but it took a little while(6 months) to feel better because I was so ill. I stand 6'5" and my weight had fallen below 130 lbs. best of luck
  5. As yoda once said in one of the Star Wars movies"there is no try there is only do". Depending on the severity of your condition it could take up to 6 months to feel better.
  6. I use peppercorns all the time in my gluten-free cooking. I don't think thats your problem, depending on the restuarant cross contamination is prolly your problem
  7. Just because it's gluten free doesn't mean it's good for you. I learned that the hard way
  8. Hi Kit, I know what you mean but a year ago I was starving. I was close to being hospitalized for malnutrition I was so thin. (6'5" less than 130)My weight is a constant 177lbs I do this by nibbling all the time. My meals are small portions and I make everything from scratch. don't be afraid tho you'll get it figured out
  9. well for a start I'd start eating someting like hummus. If you're in dubai it should be readily available. A year ago I was in the same boat as you. It took six months to get things figured out. The way I recovered was to start eating a mediterranean diet. I amke my own gluten-free crackers and bake my own bread. But mostly I eat italian style, with rice...
  10. Dear foodie girl, well I'll tell you the same thing my GI doctor told me when I asked about bloodwork 1 year later. She said to me"you're a celiac and will be one for the rest of your days". and no bloodwork or endoscopies will say anything more. if you need to know what these results say do a google search they will come up Cheers
  11. Your students sound alot like my co-workers. They had absolutely no compassion or understanding of what I was going through. I tried to communicate with them but don't anymore. The only one who knows whats going on is my boss and my foreman.
  12. No fate doesn't have gluten in it. But remember to aways check. My hummus has the following Chickpeas Red pepers Lots of garlic Tahini butter(made from sesame seeds) Lemon juice pinch of sea salt cilantro and cumin The Biggest thing I found is to keep it fresh and simple And when in doubt leave it out
  13. hummus and gluten free crackers, try that
  14. A couple of ideas for you 1st don't tell them what you're cooking. 2nd ask your daughter if she wants to continue being sick? 3rd I learned to bake my own snack foods www.glutenfreeonashoestring.com I suffered from insomnia during my bad time last year and started watching rachel ray"30 minute meals" if you can find your way around a kitchen you...

  16. Patrica, I have an emergency kit at home that I take with me anytime I travel. I have prednisone and cipro. I known this sounds like killing a fly with an elephant gun but it works for me
  17. Hi, I am a Celaic (quite severe) and I also have gerd so I do understand your problem. I am also lactose intolerant. I eat a Meditteranean diet and it has made all the difference. Rice pasta, lots of Veggies, hummus, I make my own rice crackers, and meat. On being lactose intolerant I found lactose free milk for my baking worked, also european cheese works...

  19. Starsea, It looks like you've been through the same meatgrinder as I did. Except I stand 6'5" and my weight dropped from 190 to below 130(I was too scared to get on the scale)I changed family doctors because the one I was seeing didn't care if I lived or died. I have been officially a Celiac for 1 year now. I tried what everyone talked about for a gluten...
  20. Hi, I was extremelt ill last year to the point of looking death in the eye. I recovered my health by discovering the mediterranean diet, this happened almost by accident after 6 months of trial and error with the north american gluten-free style diet. I am very strict with my diet, I miss bread but have moved on. I live by 2 mottos "when in doubt leave...
  21. yes, you can definately get sick that easily. You are more sensitive to gluten then before. I am very careful when I eat out. just because they say gluten free you can't trust them. You need to call and ask questions. If ur going to eat out my advice is keep it simple as possible
  22. No you are not being selfish. Either you look after yourself or you don't
  23. Don't sweat it, you'll get things worked out.It does take more work and you can't cheat, but ask yourself"do I want to cheat and be sick, or stay on the diet and stay healthy
  24. I trust them to a point, but under NO circumstances walk into your old restuarants blind. Ask questions, alot of them. And learn a new Mantra....when in doubt leave it out even if someone gets their nose out of joint. If that happens ask yourself "is putting your health at risk worth keeping this person happy"?
  25. Hi, It took me 6 months to get it right. And then it was almost by accident that I got it right. I had real bad insomnia during the bad time as I call last yr. I was watching 30 minute meals and started cooking mediterranean style almost by accident. I make my own hummus and bake my own crackers. The meals I make are from scratch and the only thing I use...
