  1. My sister and I were just talking about how we have pretty frequent gluten dreams. Glad we're not crazy.
  2. I have no idea how to answer your question, but I would say since the answer to both is a gluten-free diet, at least you're lucky to have narrowed your problem down to one of the two. I hope you get the answers you want.
  3. I've never thought of putting pumpkin and chocolate together, but that looks really good. I'll have to try it. Thanks for sharing!
  4. "Tough love is not an effective treatment for chronic illness." Well put.

    ARCHIVED Kfc

    Wow. Mashed potatoes, too? Crazy.
  6. The broth may have been the culprit. I just had to purge my cupboards of gluten-containing broths... it's worth checking.
  7. I mostly made sandwiches or bought school lunches last year, so I've been thinking about this. Luckily I have about a month to come up with some good lunch menus. So far, I've been thinking salads and some nuts would probably be best. The administration banned classroom microwaves at the end of last year, so that means there's about 4 microwaves for...
  8. I've never heard of anyone else having that problem -- my doctor was baffled. But, yes, my heel bone got bruised just from walking around when I was younger, too. I was supposed to wear really snug shoes so it wouldn't rub, but that didn't actually help. I spent a good chunk of time in fourth grade limping, but I was fine when I wasn't wearing shoes. Eventually...
  9. I'm in the process of self-diagnosing. After almost three weeks of no gluten, I can at least say that there have been many positive changes. The real test is going to be when I have my doctor do some blood work in about six months to see if I've been able to absorb any iron. Even if not, I have to say I feel pretty dang good right now, and with my family...
  10. One local restaurant told me not to have their salsa because the tomato paste they use in it has gluten. I would have never even thought about that -- I had actually contacted them about a specific dish I was concerned about, and he was kind enough to go over everything I could and could not eat on the menu.
  11. It's possible that I'm weird, but I like steamed spinach (and broccoli) sprinkled with some red wine vinegar. Somehow just that little bit of vinegar makes it taste extra delicious. But I grew up eating it that way, and I think it's good to begin with. Chard and Kale are another matter entirely. I haven't had much success with those, so I'll be trying...
  12. I made the brownies a few days ago -- they were a big hit with my family, Celiacs and non-Celiacs alike. Next task is pineapple upside-down cake!
  13. Thanks for sharing! I go up that direction at least once a year, so I'll try to check them out.
  14. I had never heard of such a thing; then again, I'm new to all this. What about these? Open Original Shared Link Since they're made of 100% sugar cane fiber, I would imagine they'd be safe. Plus, they're environmentally friendly. I'd still check with the company, of course, but it might be a good bet. Personally, I avoid disposable anything whenever...
  15. Here the Betty Crocker mixes were $1 more than the other mixes, so I bought them for a reasonable price. Not bad. I haven't tried them yet... I don't actually often make desserts, but I was so excited to see them that I couldn't resist. That article was interesting. I didn't think about how much they could save on marketing costs since they can depend...
  16. My friends are wonderfully accommodating and curious about this, especially considering it was my sister, not me, who was diagnosed and I'm doing gluten-free more as a preventative measure than anything else (I do have some symptoms that could be indicative of Celiacs, but I also have a negative blood test). I told them the first day I started, and then a...
  17. Haha! I hadn't even thought of that!
  18. I was thinking about getting the whey protein isolate microfiltrated from trueprotein.com. In the allergen warnings, it states that it is entirely gluten-free, so it should be fine.
  19. I think your friends, in their own way, are trying to be comforting. They may be trying to downplay the difficulty to raise your spirits. You, in turn, might still be in the shock/depression stage and not ready for that kind of cheering up. These people are your friends for a reason, and I seriously doubt you would surround yourself with people who do not...
  20. Last week my sister was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. This was no surprise considering my grandmother had it and my cousin was diagnosed a few years ago. Just about everyone in my family complains of digestive problems and, because of that, several relatives who have had negative blood results have chosen to avoid gluten anyway. They report great improvement...
