ARCHIVED Black Bean Brownies
elle's mom replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would be really interested to try these! Anyone with a non-dairy suggestion for substituting the cream/ricotta cheese? -
ARCHIVED Recent gluten-free List From Heinz
elle's mom replied to Lisa16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey thanks for the list. That's cool about the "Smart One's", I didn't even know there were any of those gluten-free; I used to eat those sometimes before going on this diet. -
ARCHIVED Mental/mood Issues Related To Calcium Deficiency?
elle's mom posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
OK, I am going to give a short paraphrase/update of my situation. I have been gluten free for approximately 4 months. I rarely experienced any abdominal issues, except for sometimes after eating at restaurants, but only went on the diet for my daughter(s). In spite of this, I highly suspect that I have had non-abdominal symptoms related to gluten consumption... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Read These Results!
elle's mom replied to Frances03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After our daughter was diagnosed, my husband and I both had this same exact type of reaction when we asked our doctors to be screened (one was a PCP and the other was an OBGYN-that's pretty much the only dr. I go to anymore lol). Anyway, it's pathetic to say the least. In hindsight, I'm sure they did not check our Total IgA, which we've since found our... -
ARCHIVED Help! I'm Starving To Death
elle's mom replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you are in a bad predicament. What about nuts? I have relied on nuts many times to get me through while traveling. You've got to get some meat though!! Just go somewhere and order plain chicken or fish with some steamed veggies & rice. Get yourself a good meal-it doesn't have to be anything fancy. You'll feel mentally better once you... -
ARCHIVED Need Advise On 1st Pregnancy
elle's mom replied to KristaleeJane's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Krista, I am sorry to hear what you are going through as I have experienced it four times, the same every time. I used to think "maybe this time will be different", but it never was. Anyway, a few posters have already mentioned both of my "remedies", although, I hate to say it but time was the only cure for me, mine went away gradually between 14-18... -
Thanks Kim, I will have to check out the book. If you don't mind me asking, so after 6 months on Nystatin and the diet, so then could you eat a diet that was only gluten free? What I mean is could you go back to some gluten-free flours, sugar (as in recipes) and also most fruits (although I see no cherries for you)? I'm just really nervous about what this...

ARCHIVED Oregano To Treat Candidia!
elle's mom replied to arkoflove's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
This is great to know! How long had you been taking it before you noticed improvement? -
The more I read and learn, the more I wonder if I possibly suffer from candida overgrowth. I won't go into a long explanation at this point, but I do have a few questions for any of you who've experienced this problem: 1. How did you get a diagnosis? ie what type of test did your doctor (and what type of dr. was it) do? 2. How long did it take for...

ARCHIVED The Curse Of An Early Celiac Dx
elle's mom replied to jcmandm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is normal to have your feelings. But the fact of it is, you are probably just in denial sorry. There are virtually no false positives when screening for celiac. In fact, if anything, most young children seem to be falsely negative. If she has positive blood results and a positive endoscopy, she is celiac. You will find countless stories all over... -
ARCHIVED New - Little Intro
elle's mom replied to nmlove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, I didn't do an "elimination diet" per se; the way it went for me was this: since my 4yo was already diagnosed with celiac, and looking back she had been the same "colicky" way as an infant (before we knew), I had a hunch of what to try for this one. I eliminated gluten first; my baby got, I would say, maybe 70% better within the week. I got some sleep... -
ARCHIVED Starting Gluten Free On Thursday
elle's mom replied to AJSmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I almost forgot: one of our kids' favorites for breakfast or snack is apple slices and peanut butter to "dip" them in. It's super yummy! -
ARCHIVED Starting Gluten Free On Thursday
elle's mom replied to AJSmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hate to tell you this but they told us to leave dairy out at least for the first 30 days on the gluten-free diet, so you probably shouldn't do the yogurt. Once his body heals, then you can slowly start to try to add a little dairy here and there. We did hard boiled eggs for breakfast for awhile; the kids like to "peel" them. Fruit is also always a... -
ARCHIVED Crackers

We also enjoy the cheesy nut thins at our house; they sure are messy though! -

I can totally relate to your situation; either pregnant or nursing since Aug 2002 (minus a few months here and there in between)! I just wanted to reply about your 3 month old who've you mentioned already shows signs of sensitivities: if you're breastfeeding, whatever you eat is getting to her via route of your breastmilk. I understand your not wanting... -
ARCHIVED The Straight "poop" - Non-celiac Bm Question
elle's mom replied to Lynayah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Agreed. Regarding the "floaters": it is my understanding (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that even though you tested negative for celiac, you can still be gluten intolerant, you can still have malabsorption, and this would account for the floaters. Likewise, since you've gone gluten-free you most likely are absorbing better and thus no... -

Count me in; ditto on the no dairy though. I usually substitute anyway so I'd like to see it regardless though. -
ARCHIVED Advice About Two Of My Children
elle's mom replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, first of all welcome to this wonderful forum. I'm sure you will find it most helpful, as I have, as you embark on your gluten free journey (once your testing is done). I would like to comment on our baby most of all. I have had two celiac babies (although only one diagnosed officially) and they both were "stuffy", kind of like what you're describing... -
ARCHIVED How To Go About This?
elle's mom replied to Heidi S.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am totally repulsed by the daycare you are describing! She does PAY to go there right!? They won't ALLOW her to bring her own snack!??? WHY?? I mean I can maybe see why a public school cannot comply with every parent's whim without a doctor's note, but this is a daycare. I don't get it. How long is she there from after school until your sister... -

ARCHIVED Car/motion Sickness Vs. A "glutening"
elle's mom replied to elle's mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, unfortunately (?-well actually FORTUNATELY), she has not. But I don't feel like I'm EVER 100% confident that she couldn't have gotten glutened somehow after reading some things on here! -
ARCHIVED Car/motion Sickness Vs. A "glutening"
elle's mom replied to elle's mom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I will look up the bonine as far as the possibility of it being gluten-free. Yes, thankfully we used a grocery bag, of all things, for her this most recent time and avoided a mess. The time before this, when she actually did not vomit, she had her face stuck in our gluten-free snack lunchbox (emptied out of course)....but the first time was a DISASTER!... -
ARCHIVED Finally! Delicious gluten-free Bread!
elle's mom replied to Wolicki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called back today and spoke to someone who seemed more knowledgable and she told me that indeed it IS a dedicated gluten-free bakery where the bread is made. It also is dairy free, so I ordered some; excited to try it! -

Hello everyone, I am hoping to get some insight once again as to what is up with my dd (the one officially dx'd with celiac). There have been 3 times now where we've gone on long road trips (4-8 hours, with stops built in of course) that she has gotten sick on the way home (actually vomitted twice, but told me she felt like she had to once). I would... -
