  1. Oscar Mayer is made by Kraft so all you have to do is check the label for wheat,rye,barley,oats....they will not hide anything so they will clearly list one of those ingredients.
  2. Haha  Yeah two words.....I WISH
  3. hmmm....I turn 18 in about 2 months I was unaware I could be that young and be able to do that. I thought you had to be alot older
  4. First, have you made sure nothing is sneaking into your diet? Have you checked things like shampoos and stuff you put on your hands, face, or head that could possibly get into your mouth? I lost close to 20 pounds before going gluten free but after I gained it back. Ensure Plus (chilled) is really good to get some calories into you. They have 350 calories...
  5. Yes I agree with celiac3270 here...most companies I am fine with when it comes to being made in the same facility but I do not trust anything from Quaker. So I think it is a matter of the brand too.
  6. Just because their is no known history does not mean it has not been in the family. It just may not have been detected. This is a very underdiagnosed disease so it could very well be in the family and nobody know about it...if your son does have it it's better to find out now then later.
  7. I used to wake up alot and not sleep very good then I started taking calcium right before bed instead of earlier in the day. That has helped me tremendously. Is there a way you could take it with an earlier meal to see if that helps?
  8. Calcium does come in liquid form...I take a calcium liquid form as well. Do you have a Vitamin Shoppe up there? You should be able to find these kinds of supplements at a health food store or a store similar to a Vitamin Shoppe. If you can not find any where you live then I am sure you could call a store in the US that has something you are looking...
  9. It's worth getting him checked for it. Some people get no symptoms at all and symptoms vary from person to person. There are over 200 symptoms that can come with celiac so it can be very tricky. The first step is a blood test and this is what he should be tested for. -Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA -Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG -Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA ...
  10. Iv'e never had a problem with foods that are gluten free made in the same facility. I also react to the slightest amount. My blood gets tested every so often to check levels they usually use to see if you are complying to the diet and my levels are normal, haven't had reactions either. So I for one do not have a problem with eating those foods.
  11. I for one eat foods that are gluten free but made in a facility containing gluten. Basically the company has to cover their butt..I do not have a problem with them but some people do like to stick to dedicated lines. It's a personal decision
  12. I also have no other food intolerances but I think for some people it can be connected.
  13. The info celiac3270 gave you is priceless. I wish I had that available to me when I was first diagnosed. It would have saved me alot of time and money. Print out the forbidden and safe lists he gave you the link to. That will definitely help you out while you learn the ins and outs of celiac. The brands he listed like Kraft are very helpful. Yes you...
  14. AmandasMommy- Kinnikinnick is a brand that makes good gluten free donuts, breads, muffins, etc
  15. About 1 in 133 people have this disease but alot of people are undiagnosed. There are over 2 million people in the US alone who have it but are undiagnosed or with a silent case. The body attacks the gluten and the villi in the small intestines that start to absorb the gluten. If this goes untreated then chances of cancer goes up 40-100 times, chances...
  16. wow to me an elephant ear just doesn't sound like something that would taste good..how did they ever get that name?
  17. I have the HLA-DQ2 gene. My doctor had really good things to say about Prometheus and they are very reliable so he chose them to do my celiac gene and panel test. They however are a bit more expensive and you'll have to check with insurance to see if it covers....my insurance covered the celiac panel but not the celiac gene so we ended up having to pay like...
  18. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12 Here is a link to safe and not safe lists that Tiffany suggested you look at As for McDonalds...their hashbrowns, fries, sundaes, M&M mcflurry, and a few other things are gluten free...if you go to their website it will tell you all of what is gluten free but do remember everywhere you eat out there...
  19. Well first..I hope you get a good dietitian who knows alot about celiac because some dietitians say spelt is ok and it is not it is a form of wheat. Basically you have to be committed to this diet. If you ignore the diet you increase your chances by 40-100 times to get cancer, diabetes, liver/gallbladder/kidney/pancreas complications, osteoporosis, and...
  20. Have you had blood tests done? First get that done After the diagnosis keep it simple as Richard said....fruits and veggies are without a doubt gluten free so stick with stuff you know is gluten free. Get rid of anything in your house with gluten in it and get a new toaster and throw the old one out. Some countries are different about what they...
  21. I was in the ER 4 times before my diagnosis because of what they thought was dehydration. Blood tests found nothing wrong with me either. I thought I had food poisoning and it turns out before I was diagnosed I had not only ecoli(from a McDonalds Big Mac ) but I also had mono...so there was my trigger Anyways I know what you have been through(haven...
  22. Nope you didn't sound nosy....your right it gives a meaning to the weight... I just forgot to put it in the 1st post..that might have helped... Most of my family is on the short side of normal so I wasn't expecting to be tall to begin with. I've grown an inch I think since being diagnosed. That's awesome to hear you have gained and got taller...
  23. haha Thanx I'm too young too...darn...that would be fun too celiac3270...yep at least we agree on the same party
  24. celiac3270...I saw that one on the Delphi forums list so I think she got it from there.
  25. As celiac3270 already said..Kraft will not hide anything so you just need to look for wheat, rye, barley, oats on the label...they will not hide anything so unless you see one of those ingredients then they are safe. As for Nesquick milkshake powder...thats made by Nestle? If it is made by Nestle again all you have to do is check for wheat,rye,barley...
