Ryebaby0 sent me this email about it: Stef- my bday is in July too!! That would be awesome if some of us could get together there -
It would be better to get a diagnosis so you know for sure she can not have any gluten. When you know it will damage her then it becomes more serious. If you would like to know for yourself I would go with the suggestion of Enterolab. They have gene, malabsorption, gluten sensitivity, and more testing. They do this testing through stool samples. The negative...

ARCHIVED Support For Beginning Days Of Going Gf
KaitiUSA replied to fritzicurls's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I also had good and bad days at first. I really didn't start feeling alot better until month 3 and then it took me a few more to get back to normal. Everyone has different times for when they start feeling better but it takes time for your body to get used to this new way of eating and for your body to heal. That's great you have been on top of... -
Yea I think that it is good when you have numerous people saying the same thing or agreeing. I know when I was new I was told don't listen to everything you here unless you here it over and over...I found it comforting and it made me more confident about what I could and could not have.

ARCHIVED Coloring And Flavoring
KaitiUSA replied to janu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes Maltodextrin is safe in the US unless stated otherwise..they have to put wheat on the label if it comes from wheat. I have seen things with natural flavors that are not safe...so I check on that every time unless it is a brand I know is safe. -

ARCHIVED Shugr...new Gf Alternative To Other Sweeteners
KaitiUSA replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even though I am not diabetic or hypoglycemic I do have to watch my blood sugar because I notice problems arise about an hour after I have excessive amounts of sugar. I do eat regular sugar for some things but when I can I try to use a natural kind that will not mess with blood sugar. This is an article I found about why sugar is bad -
ARCHIVED Under Arm Deodrant
KaitiUSA replied to chelly1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tom's of Maine has gluten free antiperspirant. Other ones in stores I have not found any non perspirant but there could be some there...I'm not a fan of anti-perspirant though. Dove has gluten free deodorant but all I have seen is antiperspirant. -
ARCHIVED Coloring And Flavoring
KaitiUSA replied to janu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know pretty much right away when I have had gluten and my reactions last for about 2 weeks. Everybody is different though..some people don't get symptoms after ingesting gluten. Some people have reactions that last for hours, days, or weeks. -
ARCHIVED Dairy Products
KaitiUSA replied to SabrinaLuvsGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some people are lactose intolerant before going gluten free because of the damage to the intestines. I know I was lactose intolerant on and off my whole life but now since going gluten free I am fine. Some people are sensitive to dairy...this is not a celiac thing to avoid though so unless you react to dairy I wouldn't worry about it. Just like some people... -

ARCHIVED What's This About Kissing Non-gf People?
KaitiUSA replied to westiepaws's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It actually is pretty common and easy to be glutened that way and maybe not realize it..the slightest bit of gluten can damage our intestines(symptoms or not) and say he/she ate bread or something..they can get it in their teeth and everywhere else in their mouth then they kiss you now some is in your mouth which then leads to digesting it. -
ARCHIVED Gf Cereals
KaitiUSA replied to chelly1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
At a regular grocery store Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles by Post are gluten free. At health food stores that have a brand called Envirokidz and they have good cereals. The ones that are gluten free clearly say it on the front of the box. -
ARCHIVED Shugr...new Gf Alternative To Other Sweeteners
KaitiUSA replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah they are but they are really bad for you...I stick with the natural stuff like Xylitol and Stevia...they taste just as good but don't mess with blood sugars or cause side effects. -
ARCHIVED Time Frames
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten can stay in your system for weeks. My reactions last 2 weeks usually but it varies from person to person. Everyones body reacts differently and some celiacs do not get symptoms. You need to eat gluten free though that is a given. If you choose to ignore the diet serious complications such as cancer/diabetes/liver,kidney,gallbladder complications... -
ARCHIVED Improvement
KaitiUSA replied to cirrus16's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are degrees of damage to the villi and the less damage you have the quicker you are more likely to heal. Usually they say being gluten free for 3-6 months heals the damage(for most people) For some people it takes symptoms longer to go away though. I know it took me 3 months to feel alot better but another few months to get back to normal. Some people... -
ARCHIVED Made A Mistake And Ate Puffins
KaitiUSA replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some people have wheat allergies and that is for people who just can't have wheat...definitely not for celiacs. I have seen things that say wheat free but have rye, barley, or oats in them. Mistakes will happen along the way so don't beat yourself up about it. Feel better -

ARCHIVED Baby With Very Painful Gas
KaitiUSA replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
People can be lactose intolerant until going on a gluten-free diet so he could be having a problem if he is having milk...is he breastfed? that is supposed to be good for babies. Did your mom have tTG and EMA done? Those are pretty specific for celiac so those would be good ones to test for. Also since it runs in the family the members that get tested and... -
ARCHIVED Baby With Very Painful Gas
KaitiUSA replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If celiac runs in the family he should be checked. That can be a symptom of celiac...remember there are alot of symptoms that can be associated with celiac but some people just don't get any. So he could just have that one symptom and still have it....your sister should be checked to since you do. -
Yep you are right there are usually many more guests on here then members

Silk has a lot of good soy milk....they have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and plain that we get alot. They taste really good in my opinion.
