  1. So true... I love that too!! real friends will help and encourage you to stick to the diet..not try to talk you into having a little bit or treat you like your crazy...
  2. Yes cookbooks by Bette Hagman are good but you have to have time for the recipes because it takes a while. I have a few cookbooks and am very happy with the results I have had from those recipes(haven't tried the bread ones yet though)
  3. These are not mixes for a bread machine but here are some good breads Kinnikinnick-donuts,breads, etc Foods by George-english muffins(plain and cinnamon) Cybros-rice rolls Chebe(their bread mixes make a good pizza crust too) Sorry I can't help with the bread machine mixes, I have not tried baking my own gluten free bread in a bread machine...
  4. Yeah, sometimes I feel like letting people assume away but my mouth won't let me let the oppurtunity to talk about celiac go by.....
  5. Actions definitely do speak louder than words...quite a few people have started making changes in their eating habits because of what they saw in my family... I do think talking helps to a point though...people I got so frustrated with came up to me recently and started asking more questions and where to get these foods and so forth and I was apalled because...
  6. Mel- I am sorry you are feeling bad again. Maybe you do have a intolerance rather then celiac. Other foods may be culprits as well. Have you had a testing done to see specifically what foods you are intolerant to? Feel better soon
  7. Sally, I know how that feels...it feels very awkward for me when I am in that position.... Ian, I do think what we do affects others because I know people that have never been tuned into the health food and now that I have been on it and doing good and have not only seen a difference in me but in my family as well, now they are trying it too...sometimes...
  8. Sally, I completely agree. I am a diagnosed celiac and I was happy for the diagnosis because I had been through alot and wanted an answer to what it was...in some ways it kind of sets me up for possible insurance problems so when I turn 22 I have to make sure my job has some really good insurance that will accept me or can't turn me down.
  9. I would try smoothies and then put gluten free whipped cream or something on top. Also I like the idea of mixing the fruits with ice cream. Like celiac3270 also mentioned..maybe V8 Splash or even homemade veggie or fruit drinks. Make sure he is getting a good vitamin as said before.

Some of it we can....take a look on their website they have info on what is gluten free.
  11. York labs does testing for I think 110 or so different foods.
  12. Thanks for posting about that brand...I wonder if we can get those products here in the US
  13. If symptoms go away that doesn't really tell much because alot of celiacs don't get symptoms but they still get damage.
  14. Fruits and veggies are always a good option. Also here are brands that will list wheat, rye, barley, oats right on their label and will not hide it under any ingredients. Aunt Nelly's Balance Baskin Robbins Ben & Jerry Betty Crocker Blue Bunny Breyers Campbells Cascadian Farms Celestial Seasonings Country Crock Edy's General...
  15. There are blood tests they do to detect celiac. These tests including the gene test they should be testing for. -Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA -Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG -Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA -Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA -Total Serum IgA I was only diagnosed through blood tests You should not take him off of gluten until tested though...
  16. Nisla-That's great! I went to a relatives house to eat and the only thing I could have was salad...they made this whole big dinner and then offered it to me and I couldn't have it and they tried to make me feel bad(didn't work though) They had things that I would normally have but they added stuff with gluten into it you just can't make some people...
  17. Yes Kimberly I do believe in the power of prayer. I have seen it work in so many cases... and it can't hurt...just because God may not answer your prayer right away or at all doesn't mean He doesn't care or He is not listening. So keep praying
  18. Enterolabs are good but they are not widely accepted by the medical community yet. They are on to something though in my opinion. They not only test for the gene but they test for gluten sensitivity, malabsorption and so forth. If you go to their website you can find more info. www.enterolab.com Also gluten is hidden in many things so if you are planning...
  19. I know kidney complications can arise from untreated celiac as well as intestinal cancers.(not sure about kidney cancer per se) Also, weight gain is a symptom...not everyone is underweight and has weight loss...there are over 200 symptoms and not everyone has the same symptoms...in fact not everyone even gets symptoms with celiac. That's one of the reasons...
  20. That is awesome...I am so going to that!!!!!!
  21. I'm like celiac3270...I didn't have really unusual symptoms. My biggest 3 were nausea, anxiety, and weight loss. I did have some moodiness with it as well but that was not too bad(my parents may think otherwise )
  22. I agree with Kristina....I tell people when they ask that it tears up my intestines and cause many other problems. I also say it is an autoimmune disorder and it has seemed to work.
  23. Yes that can cause a reaction and be a problem if it gets into your mouth. It will not be absorbed by skin though so it would have had to get into your mouth to cause a problem. Things like shampoos, soaps, lipsticks, hair products, nail polish, other cosmetics you should look out for because of easy ways to get into your mouth or food. Also if your spouse...
  24. Is there any way you could be getting a little bit in you? Do you prepare gluten containing foods? Does your spouse eat gluten and if so do they kiss you before brushing their teeth or mouthwashing the gluten out? Are all cosmetics gluten free...lipsticks etc..? Are shampoos, soaps gluten free? I'm wondering if anything is possibly slipping in. As for Amy...
  25. Splenda is gluten free but I've heard these artificial sweeteners are so bad for you. Xylitol and Stevia are both natural sugars which are ok for diabetics and hypoglycemics...you may want to look into those.
