ARCHIVED Gluten-free?
KaitiUSA replied to YankeeDB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some of it is ok. Like if it says gluten free on the container and has that ingredient then it won't be made from barley because barley has gluten. However, for other products that are not labeled gluten free you need to call and ask about it. It should be made of rice though. -
Very common with celiac. Same thing happened to me and it was very unusual.

ARCHIVED Possible Cd & Endoscopy
KaitiUSA replied to GlutenGecko's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Colonoscopies can not detect celiac because celiac damage is found in the small intestine and colonoscopies do the large intestine. A biopsy is usually done after a blood test however a positive biopsy can rule celiac in but a negative one CAN'T rule celiac out. If it comes back negative then there could be no damage yet(if its in beginning stages)or sporadic... -
ARCHIVED Gf Pita?
KaitiUSA replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Liquid Vitamins
KaitiUSA replied to Susan3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know the pills were too big for me too. I found some that are a bit smaller and they are soft gel caps. And they don't make u burp fish all day..ick Anyway they are by Nordic Naturals and called ProEFA Junior. As for liquid vitamins...the health food stores are stocked with them and on the back alot will say what they are free of. -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency Testing
KaitiUSA replied to Merika's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm still on vitamins and will continue to take them because I think they help boost my immunity but my levels went back to normal after getting on vitamins for a few months. Pre gluten free I was deficient in pretty much everything except B12 because I took them sublingually before. I got retested last August after going gluten free in January of ... -
ARCHIVED Are 2 Tests Enough?
KaitiUSA replied to yokomindy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well I personally recommend all 5 tests being done but you had the best 2 done. The thing is that they are specific for damage. The IgA and IgG even though less accurate they pick up gluten reactions in the body so I still find them useful. -
ARCHIVED How Can Someone Respond To An Unpinned Post?
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
It's no problem And when you go to Todays Active Posts you can see even the unpinned threads to and respond that way. It just will not show up in the section until a moderator pins it. -
ARCHIVED Fruit Juice
KaitiUSA replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
corn syrup is always gluten free and citric acid is ok in the U.S Not all fruit juices are gluten free so you do have to check. I drink juice(in pouches like capri sun) by Apple&Eve. I get it at the health food store and it comes in Fruit Punch or White Grape Strawberry. They are gluten free and very good. Juicy Juice products are gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well pretty much everything needs to be checked. Not only foods but products that you put on your face, hands, etc. As far as ice cream goes, some brands will not hide anything. Breyers, Popsicle,Good Humor, Klondike all will clearly list wheat, rye, barley, oats right on the label or they will be safe. Even if otherwise questionable ingredients are on there... -
ARCHIVED Buffalo Wings
KaitiUSA replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most placesI have been to have buffalo wings that contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED Do You Think This Is Celiac?
KaitiUSA replied to Sasquatch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can go gluten free when all testing regarding celiac is completed but do not go gluten free before that. -
Yep that is a way for gluten to get into your system. If he drinks something with gluten in it and then its on his lips and mouth and then he kisses you then you can get traces(its definitely worse with french kissing obviously) Does he know you have celiac? If so, could you ask him to drink something that you know is gluten free? I'm sure he will understand...

ARCHIVED Questions About Testing
KaitiUSA replied to AlwaysHope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Doctors CAN be helpful but alot are there to help treat the symptoms and not really find out the underlying cause. I know people like my grandma treat doctors as if they are God and know everything and this is what can lead to problems because doctors do not know everything. Yes, they can help but knowledge is power so you should be informed to make sure... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin Deficiency Testing
KaitiUSA replied to Merika's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The doctor can do blood tests to check for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. If you are deficient, like I was, I found that liquid vitamins worked well because of the way they are absorbed. Also, certain supplements can help with gut healing too. I chose a different route then B12 shots. I took sublingual B12 vitamins. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to Rachel--24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The results you posted all show the normal range. Sure the gluten free diet can affect the results though. As soon as you start the diet the healing begins. -
If you were diagnosed through a positive biopsy then you need to start a gluten free diet right away. Gluten in any amount is bad. There is no levels of celiac but there are levels of symptoms. Some people get bad reactions with small amounts and some people get no symptoms with it whatsoever...in either case any amount needs to be avoided. A little bit of...

ARCHIVED Could I Have Cd?
KaitiUSA replied to rohit77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First, you still could have a problem with gluten even if its not celiac. The tTG is a very accurate test but it also is aimed at detecting damage in the intestines(and will be taking place of a biopsy in at least kids soon). If you do not have damage yet then it is possible to have a false negative. I hope you are able to find some answers soon. -
If you are not gluten free and a celiac then just about anything can affect your stomach. I know when I first started the diet anything spicy would upset my stomach...I guess that was during the healing time. You do have to make sure the spices are gluten free though too. Everything needs to be checked... even products. I love spicy food and can handle...

Cracker Barrel has not been accomodating(at least from my experience). I also emailed them and they sent me an email stating that at this point they do not recommend that I eat there and so forth. Pretty much every place that serves gluten has that chance for cross contamination but for places without a policy about gluten free items it is especially risky...

ARCHIVED Questions About Testing
KaitiUSA replied to AlwaysHope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, I agree. These kind of decisions about your health that really impact you should always be discussed with your doctor. Just make sure the doctor knows about celiac very well. I lost alot of faith in doctors and am not very trusting of many of them so make sure you are well informed. Also, the thing about biopsies that would concern me is that a positive... -
ARCHIVED First Visit To Gastro Doc
KaitiUSA replied to robbiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has he been gluten free at all? Results will not be accurate if he has. Also, I was diagnosed by blood tests alone and you are seeing more doctors use blood tests for diagnosis. My doctor did not even think one was necessasry after they way my results came back. I'm not a fan of biopsies. A positive one can rule it in but a negative one can't rule it out... -
ARCHIVED No One Understand What I Have!
KaitiUSA replied to moussyluv's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As said, some people will get it and some won't. There will be times when they order things you wish you could have but don't let it get to you..they can eat their food and we can have ours. There are great foods we can have too. I have alot of family who don't seem to get it and its been over a year and a half..these people will not get it and that's fine...
