ARCHIVED Does The Insomnia Get Better?
jackay replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Two night in a row of ZZZZZZZZ's. I sure hope I am on a roll. No longer kiss dh as most likely was getting contaminated. He doesn't understand and not willing to learn more about CC. Now I am gluten, soy, dairy, egg, nut, citrus and tomato free. Maybe that is helping. -
ARCHIVED New Here, Wife Has Celiac
jackay replied to notkuroda's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your wife is so lucky to have you! I do not get any support from my dh. However, being gluten free seems to be giving me my life back. Right now my health, physical and mental, is what is most important. I am just hoping my dh comes around. I never considered beer as being a problem. I hate beer so never wanted to kiss after my husband drank it. -
My dh is definitely not the nurturing type. Hasn't been in the past and I don't see it coming in the future. I always considered him hard on our kids, too, but they were able to handle it. The night before last, I gave my dh a peck on the lips. Scared me, but I did sleep that night. Yesterday is when I said no more kissing for the time being. He...

ARCHIVED How Long Until You Feel Improvements?
jackay replied to zachyrocket's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I found it hard to break the habit of putting things in my mouth. However, I am very conscious of it now. I discontinued the nonstick pans, plastics, etc. about two weeks ago and am noticing a few signs that I'm getting better. I thought I could be one of those people who didn't have to go to that extreme but if it helps it is sure worth the effort... -
Yolo, I am going to stick to my guns. My dh will only take this seriously if I test positive for Celiac. I was tested after I eliminated gluten so it was negative. I may just have to fib and say I tested positive. I did have a positive saliva test for gliadin Ab of >100. The range for positive was anything >15. That should speak for itself....

My hands are so sore from constantly washing them and my dishes. I thought about wearing plastic gloves for washing dishes. Since there is gluten in my home, will it contaminate the gloves and then contaminate the dishes? I am also concerned about using gluten free lotion on my hands. If I contact gluten after applying it, won't it just stick to the...

We've been married over 30 years and have been through a lot of good times and a lot of tough times. My dh just seems me as being paranoid about this and I think he feels rejected. I still don't know how we are going to handle this. I don't want my marriage to break up but I do want to start feeling better. I guess I will just have to say go gluten...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Vital Nutrients Sleep Aide?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It's me again responding to my own post. This sleep supplement did not work for me. My doctor was concerned that it wouldn't since I am sensitive to so many things. I gave it a try and didn't get any sleep. I felt pretty relaxed but just couldn't sleep. Money down the drain once again. -
ARCHIVED Does The Insomnia Get Better?

I, too, am struggling with insomnia. It seems like I am constantly posting something about it. It is ruling my life. Last night I tried a new sleep supplement and got zero sleep. Usually after a night with absolutely no sleep, I go get some sleep the following night. I sure hope I do tonight! I read the book "I Can Make You Sleep". It has some really... -
ARCHIVED Do I Need To Be As Worried About C.c. With Soy, Corn, Etc As Gluten?
jackay replied to breavenewworld's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tested positive to soy protein. My doctor said I should be able to handle soy lecithin. Still, I'm scared to try anything that lists soy lecithin as an ingredient. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Vital Nutrients Sleep Aide?
jackay posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just got this supplement from my doctor. It says it is for relief of occasional sleeplessness. I have insomnia almost every night. My doctor is concerned about how I am going to react to this supplement because I am so super sensitive to so many things. This contains passionflower herb, lemon balm leaf, hops strobile, california poppy herb, valeriana... -
Since everyone has a different degree of sensitivity, he just figures mine isn't extreme. I eliminated wheat from my diet this past summer. My doctor did not instruct me to be diligent about removing all traces of it. I didn't show any improvement. Now that I have learned to be very strict about it, I am showing some signs of getting better. I know it...

Oh, things are oh so bad. My dh says I am constantly harping at him to be careful. He feels I am just putting him down and rejecting him. I feel so bad about the situation but don't know what to do. I don't think he'll ever kiss me again. Sure he baths and brushes and flosses his teeth. However, having that as a requirement before he kisses me is pushing...

I know my dh is not going to understand that I cannot kiss him because of CC. He is a big gluten eater and has a beard and mustache. He understands that I cannot eat gluten but thinks I am being unreasonable about CC. I know it is only safe to kiss him after he showers and brushes his teeth. How do I get him to understand? Our intimacy has really...

ARCHIVED Could I Have Gotten Glutened From A Probiotic?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I ran across a product that that lists flavoring. It is Goody's Cool Orange pain relief powder. I contacted the company and was told: "The maltodextrin in the peppermint flavor is derived from wheat at less than 60 parts per million." That isn't disclosed on the product label. I couldn't taste that there was peppermint flavoring in it. From now on... -
ARCHIVED How To Get A Partner To Understand And Support?
jackay replied to Quasior's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wish the best for you and your kids. You will have to do a lot more "from scratch" cooking which takes time. Once your children all feel better the extra time spent on cooking will be welll worth it. Give your kids all hugs from me! -

ARCHIVED See My Dr. Tomorrow. What Tests Should Be Done?
jackay posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Advice please. I see my doctor tomorrow and wonder if I should have the Celia panel of tests run. This past summer I had a GI panel run of stool and saliva tests. A saliva test was run for Gliadin Ab, SIgA. The result was >100 U/ml with borderline 13-15 U/ml and Positive >15 U/ml. I thought these test results were from a stool sample and I just... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Oz Show - Discusses Celiac Disease
jackay replied to Lisa's topic in Publications & Publicity
I just read the article for the Dr. Oz show on Celiac and gluten intolerance. I question this statement from it: "The difference between gluten intolerance and Celiac disease is that gluten intolerance generally does not cause the same kind of intestinal damage, but does lead to uncomfortable abdominal symptoms with the ingestion of gluten." From almost... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Oz Show - Discusses Celiac Disease
jackay replied to Lisa's topic in Publications & Publicity
I, too, am bummed that I missed this show. I made sure I set aside time to watch it. The Dr. Oz show came on and there was nothing about celiac on it. Can't believe I tuned in on the 11th and not the 10th -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Gotten Glutened From A Probiotic?
jackay replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My probiotic states that it does not contain milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, wheat (gluten) peanuts or soybeans. It goes on to say that some straines are fermented in soy and/or milk and that processing elilminates any soy and/or milk residue. I am intolerant to soy and milk. I question if this is a safe product for me. Can anyone... -
I am new to being gluten free and don't understand how it is possible to eat at someone else's house unless they live gluten free. If I have to be so careful at home that I do not use plastic, wood or Teflon and that my cooking utensils and dishes are absolutely clean, how can I be sure of that in someone else's house? I'll be going to my mother-in-law...

After 40 hours of no sleep, I slept straight through for over seven hours last night. I took 6 mg. melatonin, 200 mg. L-Theanine and 15 mg. mirtazapine (prescription). The interesting thing is that I can take the same thing other nights and not sleep at all. I checked the pharmacist about mirtazapine. It doesn't contain wheat. I sure feel better...

I have now been awake for over 40 hours. I feel exhausted but not sleepy. I sure hope for sleep tonight! I want to warn others about Ambien CR. I took Ambien a few years ago and got four hours of sleep from it. Felt lousy but four hours were better than nothing. Recently, my doctor prescribed 12.5 mg. Ambien CR. I held off using it until I went...

ARCHIVED Are My Supplements Safe?
jackay replied to jackay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found my own answer from Metagenics. It took them a while to respond to my inquiry. This is what I found out. "Metagenics products are produce in a triple GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) facility that follows strict allergen separation guidelines. While the FDA mandates manufacturers lists allergen statements on product labels, there is no concern...
