ARCHIVED Sad For The Child But Not Much I Can Do
beebs replied to elfie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow - that is scary. How do they know this child has outgrown Celiac anyway? The only way they would be able to tell is doing follow up endoscopies every 6 months to check for damage. This dr sounds very irresponsible. Maybe don't say anything but direct the parents to this forum? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Here Suffer From Inflammation?
beebs replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was preg every single symptom went away - I felt for awhile, like it may have been all in my head. But not so, as soon as the baby came out it all came back with a vengance, I guess that is why I don't blame absolutely everything on gluten - for people like us it could really be anything Stupid autoimmune diseases! I have just been told that I could... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Here Suffer From Inflammation?
beebs replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmm- I'd ask for a referral to a rheumatologist if I were you, celiac disease goes hand in hand with the connective tissue autoimmune family, Lupus, Sjogren's etc etc. Not saying that is what it is -it sounds like your joints are affected, so not just like you have pulled something iywkim! -
I was thinking about this in terms of cross contamination- it must be almost impossible to keep it gluten free?? I eat gluten free pizza and never had a problem, I'm not overly sensitive I don't think though. What are your thoughts?

ARCHIVED Even A Kiss?
beebs replied to NicoleKnott's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To be honest - my husband went gluten-free for this very reason- and now he has found out he has a problem with gluten and he'll need to have the tests done. How ironic! B -
Oh god yes! Those shortbreads are to die for! YUMMO! I just picked up the new Leda arrowroot biscuit - I wonder how they will be??

ARCHIVED Why Are Dr's Incompetent?
beebs replied to sariesue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This sounds so similar to my story. As a precaution a few years back I had a celiac panel and genes test (my mother has it). The panel came back negative and the Dr told me my genes weren't the common ones so there was no way I could be celiac anyway. A few years later my symptoms started to come thick and fast - although not the usual type. I ended up seeing... -
This topic was split from the "Forum Peeves" topic in Chat by moderator psawyer. This is *Exactly* what I was I was talking about!! I'm on another forum for mothers with multiples and there is a woman there whose child has ongoing problems for years and years, iron deficiency , severe chronic constipation, weight loss, shocking behavioural problems...

ARCHIVED Anyone Here Suffer From Inflammation?
beebs replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was hoping beyond hope that my arthritis/Inflammation problems were all gluten related, now I have been gluten free for a year in a few weeks and I have come to terms with the fact that it is not so. In fact it is all getting worse. I think I have to accept that it is connective tissue disease. I wonder if there is a chance you have another autoimmune disease... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Angry
beebs replied to Di2011's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not saying it isn't rare, but it does happen. And I was just pointing that out -
Oh yes, me too! That drives me insane. My pet peeve is when people give out medical advice on the internet and its wrong. Not you guys - you are all so well read. But like - people on other forums who don't have a clue - it drives me mad!

ARCHIVED Thankful To Be Gluten Free
beebs replied to Celtic Queen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am grateful that at least one of my autoimmune diseases can be put into remission with no hardcore drugs that are often worse than the disease itself. Seriously- I just think my mum is so lucky that she was undiagnosed for 40 years but it didn't trigger anything else. (Although her bones are shot to heck which is bad) . The other autoimmune stuff I have... -
Look through your cupboard and throw out any thing that has gluten in it and then start again. Get that book "Gluten free for Dummies" by Dana Korn -that is helpful. I'm in Australia and the coeliac society puts out a little card with what we can't have that fits in your wallet- If you can find something like that its helpful too!

ARCHIVED Any Thoughts Or Ideas?
beebs replied to SamanthaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I were you guys I'd be finding out who the best Celiac GI doctor in your area is and getting a referral to him/her. Alot of people on here don't mind if they get a diagnosis or not and if it doesn't matter to you guys then yeah go gluten free and see if it helps - just be aware that if it is gluten he may react even worse to it after cutting it out of... -
ARCHIVED Any Thoughts Or Ideas?
beebs replied to SamanthaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like it could be celiac, do you know if he has been tested for it? Even if he has false negatives can happen. -
ARCHIVED I Am So Angry
beebs replied to Di2011's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry - was that directed at me? I was just pointing out that Celiac can cause life threatening events even after having it just one time. I wouldn't have mentioned it except it seemed like maybe you didn't realise that? -
ARCHIVED Dry Mouth A Symptom Of Celiac?
beebs replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey domesticactivist = that sounds like hairy tongue? Do you think it could be that? I get it when I'm on antibiotics and it throws of my gut flora - so gross!! -
ARCHIVED I Am So Angry
beebs replied to Di2011's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I get small bowel intussusception from exposure to gluten which causes me to end up in emergency and so far I have been very lucky that they have resolved on their own. One day it is likely that it will not resolve and I could die from it. It is considered a life threatening medical emergency. It is scary stuff and for me its totally cause by gluten. -
I only ever made it in the summer! It was crazy - I have never seen so many people in my life! I would love to go back in the quiet season - its a beautiful city!

ARCHIVED Dry Mouth A Symptom Of Celiac?
beebs replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
See - I don't have dry eyes- or what I mean is, I don't feel like I have dry eyes, they don't feel gritty or annoying or anything. But I had the shirmer's test and scored 0-0 which means I produce no tears when there is a foreign thing in them (dry as you can get) - we don't have the salivary gland test in Oz - and my bloods are negative. At this stage I... -
ARCHIVED Dry Mouth A Symptom Of Celiac?
beebs replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
They have to do specific tests to check for autoimmune disease and I guarantee you they wouldn't do them unless there was a reason for it. Anyhow - ask your GI and see what he/she says. -
ARCHIVED Dry Mouth A Symptom Of Celiac?
beebs replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes - exactly skylark. There is a correlation between SJogren's and Coeliac, if you are getting things like dry eyes and dry mouth you should see your Dr. -
ARCHIVED Can 24 Hrs Of Gluten-Free Make You Feel This Much Better?
beebs replied to silveylane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do not have *normal* GI symptoms either. Some people only have neuro symptoms, some celiacs don't have one symptom. Yes you can feel better quickly, the day I quit gluten was the day that I stopped taking meds for GERD, and I had been on meds for years and they didn't even work - my reflux was bad, I couldn't swallow water. So anyhow - It was noticeable... -
ARCHIVED Dry Mouth A Symptom Of Celiac?
beebs replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I haven't heard of it myself, but it can be a sign of other things. I think you should see your Dr. -
ARCHIVED I Am So Angry
beebs replied to Di2011's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think you should make a complaint to the powers that be, food safety Australia or something. I could possibly die if I eat gluten (because I get intussusception)-gluten-free is not something to mess around with (as you know ) and hearing that stuff is terrifying. PS - I used to work at a place that sounds very similar to that in Canberra - I wonder...
