  1. But we know that it's not true that a neg biopsy doesn't mean you aren't celiac:)
  2. I think so too, I think I learnt early on that Drs are fallible - they make mistakes, they are human! I do think there is a difference in gluten intolerant and Celiac though - and I think it is best to try and find out which is which. But maybe thats just all my other autoimmune diseases (that were probably triggered by gluten) talking. Who knows.
  3. But Celiacs often test negative, and then have another one and they are positive, so a negative test does not always meat Gluten intolerance. There needs to be more understanding in the medical community. For example, my child tested negative in the bloods and borderline in the biopsy - not enough for a diag, but the specialist he sees does not say he isn...
  4. Same - although maybe I;m just getting older? I had three drinks the other day and threw my guts up and then I had 3 drinks another day and had a 2 day hangover. I felt rotten. Before I realised I had a problem with gluten I started to get violently ill after drinking beer - I'd have a couple and then next day I would vomit bile all day long - I felt like...
  5. I agree with everything you just said. I also agree that diagnosis of celiac should change = the testing just has too many false negatives!
  6. If you have a positive blood test then treat it as if you have celiac - seriously- damage in your intestines can be patchy and they say they there is around 20% false negatives in celiacs. My hubby was supportive - its awful that your hubby is not - it makes a difficult situation even worse. There are some great gluten free blogs about - have a look around...
  7. Rocket is a type of salad leaf (Its so yucky! haha!) It tastes kind of bitter or mustardy or peppery even? or something, not sure!
  8. Which is exactly why things need to change! But it won't change if we all just drop off the radar, Although - as I pointed out before, I think a dx is not the most important thing -its ruling out all the other terrible things that is more important. Which is why I think testing should happen, and then if all else fails then going gluten free is a good idea...
  9. Am I the only one concerned with other autoimmune diseases and the higher risk of cancer? Before people go nah not concerned, please head to the related disorders section and see how many people here have not just celiac but other autoimmune diesease. And many feel that they were triggered by eating gluten as celiacs (which alot of times they are). My Grandad...
  10. They do two here too (Aus). One to confirm diagnosis and one to check that the villi has healed.
  11. I use Ayam all the time and never had a problem with it. I really think its different here -in the US you can call yourself gluten free even if you aren't (companies I mean) But here they have to test below 3ppm to be called gluten-free. So if its tested in Melbourne then I assume it has to meet that criteria.
  12. This happens to a friend when he eats chilli - he can literally feel his throat close - although he has never been not able to breathe,,,yet!
  13. No - mine is directly related. The day I went gluten free the GERD stopped - if only I had of figured it out ages ago. I need to have an endo to check for Barretts etc. Not looking forward to it! Also- now if I am glutened the GERD comes back - so totally caused by gluten.
  14. I'd say even 100+ for me - I hate the thought of it really. But seriously - I had 10 weeks of two different anitbiotics after my last baby so what is that?? 20 courses!! (I had another course in there at the beginning - but surprise, surprise I developed a resistance to it I get infections after any kind of op/procedure/childbirth and before going gluten...
  15. yeah - as long as you don't mind about Diag then that sounds like a plan. My GP is really good because she is gluten intolerant herself, but I do notice that the Paed GI is really testing the kids full on and not sure what the outcome will be, but I doubt he'll give mine a gluten intolerance diag until they do the challenge anyway. Good luck with it. I agree...
  16. Is there a particular reason you suspect gluten? Not to say it isn't that, but it could be other things as well. I think getting a diag before going gluten free is far easier in the long run - some people can't tolerate gluten challenges so remain undiagnosed forever. She came back negative on the bloods but did she have a endo yet??
  17. Some people absolutely have constipation from gluten!
  18. But that is different - you guys get sick on gluten! I mean the people who do it because the celebs in hollywood are doing it! I don't mean you guys!!
  19. I admit, I find it even more interesting when people go gluten free with no testing whatsoever. What if it's something worse? What if you have done damage inside already, but you won't know because you haven't had any testing? Why would even go gluten free if you don't have to? Apparently 9 out of 10 people on gluten free diets do not have celiac or gluten...
  20. Its still 3 months though. 2 days would do nothing!
  21. I got mouth ulcers (canker Sores) all the time, I still get a few but nothing like before.
  22. Oh my god - Same. I am DQ8/DQ6 but told that DQ6 was of no consequence. And my symptoms are life threatening...hmm - if this is true it could be the answer to all my questions!
  23. Its up to you if you want to get a diagnosis or not. Some people would say that the immediate reaction that she had from one cracker is enough proof. And because you have already gone gluten free she would need to do a challenge. PS- gluten for 2 days? That is the wrong advice (which isn't surprising - most Drs don't know anything about celiac), she needs...
  24. Yeah - severe heartburn (GERD) that I took medication for for years and years and it did nothing. I couldn't drink water - it would make it so much worse and sometimes it wouldn't even go down:( But - all good now that I'm gluten free, no meds needed and GERD is all but gone (have little episodes here and there) . Have you started the gluten-free diet yet...
  25. Not sure how reliable, but this page said that gluten free has had a growth of 74% between 2004-2007 and that it is the fastest growing category, that over that time 700 new products have become available. The fact is Macro are doing themselves a complete disservice - as all they would have to do is change lines for that stuff that celiacs can eat, to...
