  1. I agree with the fad diet comment, before diagnosis my mother was wasting away and lost half of her body weight- the GI suspected cancer and all our family were so worried. Then she got the Celiac diag - started a gluten-free diet and looked and felt so much better, but my aunt did not believe it!! Even though you could see how much better it was, she kept...
  2. Thats what I think to Aziza, there are some things your list of symptoms that warrant further investigation - the fact that your Dr is not willing to try and figure out what is going on suggests that you may need a new Dr! Some of your symptoms sound very much *autoimmune* in nature (the ulcers etc) and some are so clearly nothing to do with your gut so therefore...
  3. You are really positive! That is great. I'm so glad for you Chemo is over and so glad that the next chapter of your *healthy* life is starting. Yayy!!
  4. Mouth ulcers all the time were one of my symptoms too -as well as very painful nose ulcers.
  5. There are certainly false negatives in the tests for Celiac. Those symptoms could be celiac - but they could be other things as well. IBS is a label they put on things when they really just don't know what is going on. You have a couple of choice, you could go gluten free and see if you feel better - if you do, then there is your answer -just be aware...
  6. What a stupid article, even if you are gluten sensitive and feel sick you shouldn't follow a gluten free diet!?!?? I feel sick if I eat heaps of chocolate - does that mean I should in fact do it all the time now..yaaayy! Awesome news.
  7. What pathetic small people. They are obviously projecting their annoyance at their own mundane, boring lives onto you guys. I'm not sure why- but sounds like jealousy - not about the Celiac - about other things - but this is the way that they deal with it. So pathetic. I think it interesting that they say 'people have been eating wheat for 1000's of years...
  8. My GP, I am thinking two things here either a) he didn't know enough about the tests so when he ordered the panel he thought that was the genes as well or he forgot to order them, but because he already told me he did, he fibbed to cover himself. Because I don't have classic symptoms he thought he'd be safe enough anyway. So I found out I did because...
  9. My bloods were completely negative, sometimes I wonder how that could even be possible with the severity of my symptoms - granted the intussusception started about 6 months after the neg bloods but still Not to mention all the other autoimmune crap I have going on. How on earth could I test negative? When a glutenous meal will put me in ER with a life threatening...
  10. Do you like Irish Soda bread - if so this is the bomb, it is the best bread I have ever had - I can't eat most of the gluten-free bread because they are disgusto! I use half the sugar in the recipe Gluten-free buckwheat bread Photography by John Paul Urizar There
  11. I was told that I could not have celiac and that my genes were negative (which they aren't), fast forward 2 years of increasing sickness and pain. And basically now I will never get a diagnosis but a celiac specialist here says that there is no way it could be anything else, he is certain I have celiac. Doh - stupid Drs, Stupid tests!!!
  12. I was a vegetarian for 10 years by choice, and yes - when I ate meat it made me feel sick, you get used to not eating it. But having said that - there is a massive difference with the way I feel about vego and coeliac. There is no choice with coeliac - I couldn't even cheat if I wanted too. I think thats what makes it worse. Just the whole - finality of it...
  13. I have nail psoriasis - which means it only shows up in my nails, I do have some type of autoimmune arthritis as well - but they aren't sure which one, psoriatic has been mentioned. But yes - there is a common connection between the two. Doh!
  14. I agree with the others who said that it sounds like you are projecting all your stuff onto the celiac diagnosis. And of course that is normal, you HAVE been dealt a really crap hand and I'm sorry to hear it. I really think that you should go for a therapist - even if you feel you still can't do the diet, at least somewhere to really get all this stuff...
  15. Thats what I thought - so why would our coeliac society say not to eat it? I am confused - I think I may ring and ask them! Thanks for your help!!
  16. You know how sometimes its says maize (from corn) but most time it doesn't say where its from. I always thought maize was corn, but then I was reading through the coeliac societies handbook and it say we shouldn't eat any maize is that true? If it is I have been glutening myself over and over!!
  17. Hmm, would I rather be depressed or dead? What a stupid thing to do a study on....its not like we have a choice about being gluten-free...
  18. You know, after what you have been though, being gluten free would be a walk in the park compared!
  19. Ours are going to change to 0-20ppm, currently its <3ppm is considered gluten free. How is Low gluten helpful to anyone with coeliac disease anyways? Has the world gone mad!
  20. It does for me, if I have small amounts I can still feel it, and get symptoms. But if I have large amounts I get severely ill and last time ended up in emergency.
  21. Get yourself a new GI, she obviously has NO idea about Celiac. THose are very well peer reviewed symptoms.
  22. Too true Roda, there is a website that lists 300 associated symtoms and they are both some of them.
  23. Oh sorry- I didn't read all the thread! So what does hida mean??
  24. gluten-free food is getting better everyday. I don't even notice the difference in pizza bases anymore, honestly-and there is a new range of pies in Australia and the pastry is flaky and buttery just like real pastry - mmm. If it is Celiac - just be thankful that its not 20 years ago when everything tasted like cardboard! haha!
  25. We don't really do new years in terms of food (haha) But we celebrate Christmas in a big way here, so since last year and not being able to eat any of the usual christmas cakes and puddings, I have started my own tradition of making a thing called meringue smash - its basically Meringue, berries, white chocolate, cream all smashed up together - sooo good...
