  1. If you are gluten free you will come back negative on the tests. If you want a diagnosis you would have to do a gluten challenge which is basically eating 4 slices of bread a day for 3 months. Alot of people have done one on here and I'm sure they'll chime in:) Just be aware that after being gluten free often people feel worse than before when they start...
  2. As far as I know just from this site it seems not. I know that they deffo don't do it here in Australia - they are looking to change the diagnostic formula that they use here - but that would still require a very high positive blood test - which I assume you don't have either? I feel your pain - I desperately want a diag as well. But last time I ate...
  3. I bought a bread maker and make my own gluten-free bread now - its cheaper to do it that way. Also - piklets are great for a snack and you can freeze them for later. I make savoury and sweet.
  4. Aha. Right. I was on plaquenil for awhile - do not like it at all! I reckon the drugs sometimes have worse side affects than the diseases. Anyway OP - I really hope it turns out to be nothing for you!!
  5. Sounds like a good GI - I was thinking about what people were saying about it unlikely to be gluten at this age. Who really knows- my son screamed from the day he was born, refluxy, colicky and bad stools. He vomited every single day of his life and it caused ulcers in is esophagus, it only stopped when he went gluten free after his biopsy at 18 months old...
  6. Its just a red rash on my face - it kind of looks like a malar rash but not a bad one - doh. I also can't see in sunlight or bright cloudy days and get stabbing pains in the backs of my eyes and I am losing my night vision. I get nose ulcers and stuff as well. My Rheumy has mentioned psoriatic arthritis as I have psoriatic nails which gives me a 30% chance...
  7. Oh Pizza picasso on king st are also coeliac partners
  8. Yes same here - always high ESR. Negative ANAs, negative for RA, negative for Sjogren's on the bloods. I too have been sitting and waiting to see if the arthritis and sicca and photosensitivity would go into remission after I went gluten free - but its all just getting worse. I have been gluten-free for 10 months - boo!
  9. Just be aware that some people after going gluten free just to see, get such severe reactions to eating gluten and end up too sick to do a gluten challenge and so remain undiagnosed. Just something to keep in mind!
  10. I am very sorry- but if someones kids are playing in the toilet then I am afraid that is far more disgusting. You let your pets drink toilet water?? Wow. Thats all I have to say to that.
  11. You need a new Dr - that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Some Celiacs have no symptoms whatsoever! Not to mention my kids never had blood in their poo - and they were sick as anything and their stools were horrifying! Yet another Dr giving out ridiculous advice.
  12. Yes they can absolutely. Even if its not gluten it sounds like he is reacting to something that you are eating. And the more you read on here lots of people also react to nightshades and soy...I'd start by taking your baby to a Dr that is good (recommended) with things like celiac and food intolerances. Good luck!
  13. Keep in mind that Anemia can cause neuropathy type symptoms as well - so if you haven't been well lately maybe get a blood test to rule it out.
  14. Honestly - I bring my own food anyway. Because even if you have nice friends and family the fact is that they often misread labels (just like we do) and there ends up being gluten in it. I went to a friends house recently - she went all out for me because she knows that I am gluten-free - the whole meal was gluten-free (even though everyone else eats Gluten...
  15. Yes - I have many. I also have negative blood tests though - so I see a rheumy and have been for 5 years and at this stage all we know is there is some kind of connective tissue thing going on but no official diagnosis. Nothing is ever easy in terms of diag with me arrghhh!! Good luck with your tests - I hope its not that for you
  16. I had GERD as a symptom as well...Maybe tell your husband that it is a good thing you don't have it..20% of GERD suffers end up with pre cancerous cells in their esophagus
  17. There are no totally gluten free places in Newtown but The organic pomegranate king st - they have a 10% discount for coeliac society members and are coeliac Society partners, Atomic Thai king st newtown have a separate gluten-free menu and Guzman Y gomez is a traditional mexican place on king st again that does gluten-free options. I haven't yet tried Pomegranate...
  18. Apparently some people with crohn's do improve on a gluten free diet. So best to get a GI asap.....good luck I hope its not that!
  19. Yes - I love Guzman - tasty and prob the best take away in Newtown. I assume you are near newtown is that right? So I know that when eating out we are really taking a risk with it - I guess because people don't really understand the labels etc - heck we are experts and some even confound us. But its great to hear first hand from other Coealic's about food...
  20. My son who has been unwell since birth has horrid stools - lost of times completely undigested meals, heaps of oil, fatty steaatorhea, and mucous in them. Really large as well - compare with his healthy twin who varies in colour and size and smell....but they just were never even close to being as bad as his twin. Its really hard to say cause healthy stool...
  21. I just a tried a mexican restaurant the other night in Glebe and it was DIVINE! very authentic, everything including their torillas and corn chips made on the premises. They are gluten free friendly, and there were only two things that I couldn't order off the menu - they change some stuff about to make sure its gluten-free so make sure you mention that you...
  22. Dodgy alright- I actually think that we should complain about that - labelling laws here are very strict - and it seems they are trying to be a bit dodgy about it. At the moment I am eating Bulla real dairy ice cream vanilla (not the smooth and creamy which I have heard is gluten-free as well) . Weis is gluten free as are magnums, except of course anything...
  23. Mushroom and Lori - you both sound autoimmune to me (although I know you already know that mushroom!). Lori when you say that you are not celiac is that because of negative testing? We all know how unreliable those test can be so I'd be assuming of was celiac if I had neuropathy etc!!!
  24. My symptoms escalated badly when I went of gluten and then 6 weeks later ate gluten again. I ended up in emergency and now there is just no way I can do the challenge. Its up to you if you feel like you need a diagnosis or not? Your really need to be eating gluten to be tested - otherwise you'll never really know anyway? Was it negative because you aren't...
  25. Yeah bad. Not to go into to much details but I've had it to the point where I ended up really ill. So yeah -the last thing they think is celiac even though judging from this thread its fairly common
