ARCHIVED Is This Celiac Disease Or Gluten Intolerance Or Something Else?
Dixiebell replied to Tidings's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am not positive what that test is for but I have heard that you need to be eating four slices of bread a day for several weeks before the blood tests and biopsy. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
Dixiebell replied to kasey1953's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If your blood test was positive then I would say you have celiac. I have heard that the damage can be patchy so that would explain why the biopsy was negative. You might want to give up dairy for a while and see if that helps. Also get a copy of all your tests and you can post them here and some of the experts can help you with those. -
No the heat will not burn off the gluten, Sadly he is wrong.

ARCHIVED I'm So Confused Am I Or Am I Not
Dixiebell replied to marie33's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My sons blood tests were negative as were mine. He was having so many problems and with our family history of all sorts of illness we opted to not do the endo. instead we tried the gluten-free diet and it is working. He had severe constipation, many different types of rashes, headaches, very strange looking BM's, trouble breathing(rarely) and whined alot... -
We do need to remember that their speciality is a 'breaded chicken sandwich'. They 'bread' the chicken in the kitchen on it's own dedicated breading table. The salads are also made in the kitchen but on a different table. They also make biscuits every morning in the kitchen. So CC can happen. The fries are frozen and not opened until they put them in the...

ARCHIVED Starting Out
Dixiebell replied to aderifield's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. There are many others on here that know a lot more than I do, and they all say to not change your diet until after the biopsy. I'm sure others will respond soon. -
ARCHIVED New With Questions
Dixiebell replied to Emeline405's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son had severe constipation also. He had an x-ray a because of severe tummy pain. The miralax cleared that up after a few weeks. His blood tests were negative. We opted to not do the endo because I wanted to see first if the diet would work for him. If it didn't and if he was still having problems then we would get it done to see if maybe it was something... -
ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Dixiebell replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hope you don't mind if I put in my two cents. My daughter is 19, and just moved out. It sounds like she isn't comfortable with herself. If you don't do this already, try to give her a compliment every day. When she making negitive comments, I know it is hard to do, just don't respond, change the subject. This has been the best tool I have ever used. -
ARCHIVED Bill Clinton Does Have Celiac
Dixiebell replied to Eriella's topic in Publications & Publicity
Eat before you go so you are too full to want any of that stuff. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms With No Solid Diagnosis
Dixiebell replied to Isa-lee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son went through some of the same problems. Alot of them were behavioral prob. Negative blood test. His GI, Dr.P, said these tests are not 100%. They did x-rays on his tummy and found severe constipation. We got that cleared up an he was still having lots of pain an very odd BM's. Another x-ray was done because Dr.P thought it would be C again. No C. He... -
Last night my spouse and I were debating about CC. He doesn't think we need to be so worried about it. My son is a scout and will be camping next month and the scout leaders wife wants to talk to me about the menu. My spouse told me that they want the boys to eat the same foods so that none of the children say 'how come I have to eat it if he doesn't?' Which...

My 9 yr old has had the same type of rashes. We are pretty positive it is a latex allergy. Not knowing this was a prob at the time, I had purchased him some new, a different type, undies and the prob he was having around his waist went away. He had a biopsy done on his bottom and the bandages we were using, spongebob, were causing blisters under the bandage...

ARCHIVED Tasty gluten-free Snack Foods
Dixiebell replied to RachelisFacebook's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glutino makes cookies like oreos that are very good. My son likes Pamalas choc chip cookies and also Enviro Kids choc rice crispie bars. We also like the glutino pretzels, you could dip them in peanut butter. Also an apple with peanut butter is really good. The Chex cereals might be better than cookies. They have choc, honey nut and cinnamon. Those are also... -
ARCHIVED Possibly Diagnosed?
Dixiebell replied to sammyandkaylasmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wonder why that is? My son did the very same thing. He would be swimming and say he felt bad then he would throw up. -
Not sure what time you went to eat, but try to go when they are not at 'peak' times and maybe call before and talk to the store manager or the owner\operator of your location. When I worked in the office of a local Chick-fil-a, I had a gentleman call and ask if we had anything other than chicken for him because he was allergic to it. I had never heard of...

ARCHIVED Possibly Diagnosed?
Dixiebell replied to sammyandkaylasmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Not sure if this helps, but my now 9 yr old started having stomach issues last fall after a bout with the flu. After about 2 months of acid reducers and not feeling better his Dr ordered an x-ray of his intestine and he was very constipated. Just thinking, if he is constipated, it could possibly make him throw up. -
ARCHIVED How To Do This? Camping And Need Help
Dixiebell replied to macocha's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Chex cereals have snack recipes on their boxes. Chocolate, cinnamon and honey nut flavors. Fruity Pebbles marshmallow bars(not very healthy, but tasty.) My husband and I like freeze dried fruit. My 9 yr old likes Enviro Kids chocolate crispy rice bars. The snack packs of fruit would be good. If you can have nuts those would be good too, we love cashews. You... -
ARCHIVED Am I Over-Reacting To This?
Dixiebell replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maybe they have celiac confused with something else? I would send them some info stating celiac is not contagious or have it with you next time you see them. Even better would be a note from your Doc. -
All Chick-fil-A's have dedicated fryers. The chicken fryers are pressure fryers and cook at a different temp. They do 'bread' their own chicken and make biscuits, so it could be airborne. Almost our whole family has worked at Chick-fil-A at some time or other. My sister is in process of getting her own store. When a customer has a special request, she will...

ARCHIVED Help! With "negative" Results And Feeling Lost
Dixiebell replied to lischro's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sadly, some people do not have the gift of compassion. I think you should go back to the Dr. office and tell them you want a copy of your test results and then post them here. -
