ARCHIVED Possible Celiac- 4 Year Old
Dixiebell replied to kennessee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, his regular Dr. can order the tests. Just to be clear, celiac is not an allergy so allergy testing will not find it, it is an auto-immune disease. I would take this list of tests with you and tell him you want them done. You might also want to mention that they have not found anything yet so why not test him for this. Get the vitamin levels too to see... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Doctors...help?
Dixiebell replied to WesternMA12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What might help is to have a list of questions and concerns with you so you don't get side tracked. Dr.s are good at this. The biopsy should be performed next to a lesion. You can look this up and take the information with you. -
I wish I could say that I have helped someone. I am still working on my g-mother, aunt and mom. I don't bring it up as often anymore but I do post things on FB about celiac symptoms and testing. My aunt always 'Like's' things I post. She has/had Grave's so I have really woried about her. My g-mother has lost a lot of weight in the past year and a half and...

ARCHIVED Possible Celiac- 4 Year Old
Dixiebell replied to kennessee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mainstream mac and chees does have gluten in it because of the noodles. Lactose intolerance can go hand in hand with celiac or gluten intolerance. In my opinion, I would get the celiac testing done and vitamin levels and see what they say. In the mean time you could stop dairy and see if that helps. That would not scew the celiac testing. Stopping gluten... -
ARCHIVED Soy Milk
Dixiebell replied to ljeanh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi ljeanh. I'm not sure on what brand of soy milk to suggest to you, we do not drink it. I have heard of many people reacting to soy products in general, not just the milk. I'm sure there are some who have their favorites and hopefully they will respond. We personally like almond milk. I buy the unsweetened unflavored one so I can cook with it too. Vanilla... -

ARCHIVED Grits, Eggs, And Bacon For Breakfast!
Dixiebell replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Had shrimp and cheese grits last night. They were good. I don't really have a recipe. My dad had made some at the holidays. He used wostershire sauce, minced garlic, either hot sauce or chili sauce, I think bacon grease is involved too. I searched for recipes with these ingredients and several came up. I just mixed up what I had at home and kept tasting it... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac- 4 Year Old
Dixiebell replied to kennessee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum kennessee. If someone hasn't told you already, if he is not eating very much gluten containing foods, the tests for celiac can come back as normal. Did he ever have testing for celiac? Check his paperwork from then and see if any of these test are on there. Celiac tests: Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial... -
ARCHIVED What A Year It's Been So Far
Dixiebell replied to tfrost's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum tfrost. Thank you for your story. I am so glad you were able to find out what was causing your problems. Parts of your story remind me of my young adult daughter. She was having GI bleeding and stomach pain, vomiting, dehydration and several ER visits. Her testing is supposedly normal. She is pregnant on top of all this. I mentioned... -

Dixiebell replied to campbell7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi campbell7. I have heard six or more weeks, probably more would be better, and to eat three to four slices of bread a day. -
ARCHIVED Is It Celiac...somebody Help Me!
Dixiebell replied to crazycanuck36's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If she tested positive on the celiac blood test and the biopsy, then she is indeed celiac. Mushroom has an explanation for this in the above post. -
ARCHIVED Pioneer Vitamins
Dixiebell replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think barley grass is safe or gluten-free. You might want to cancel you order. -
ARCHIVED Still Learning To Eat Gluten Free. Sleeping 10 -12 Hours. Related?
Dixiebell replied to farnickle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum farnickle! Are you taking any vitamins? Have you had your vitamin levels checked? It is recommended that you supplement your diet with them. A good multi, b-complex, fish oil and I'm sure others will have suggestions too. -
Thank you! eatmeat4good, did you have a skin biopsy? I am wondering because I am afraid to take him back to the derm. The first time the Dr. would not do the biopsy and testing I wanted and the numbing shot hurt my son so bad he cried. This is when we found out he has KP. He has never cried getting shots or blood drawn. When we go back I will for sure ask...

ARCHIVED Waiting For Results And Planning Next Steps
Dixiebell replied to October3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is always possible that damaged areas were missed. Do you know how many biopsies he took? The low iron could also be a symptom. Has he had any other vitamin or mineral levels checked to see if they are low or normal? I would get those checked as well considering he damaged tooth enamel. The information I found about low iron and behavior was about children... -

ARCHIVED Waiting For Results And Planning Next Steps
Dixiebell replied to October3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum October3. Did your Dr. run a full celiac panel? If not you should get that done. If that has been done you can go ahead and start a gluten-free diet. Celiac is not the only form of gluten intolerance/sensitivity. It can manifest in many different ways. You can look up Gluten Sensitivity Spectrum. 1.If you want him to eat school... -
ARCHIVED New Member.. Celiac?
Dixiebell replied to JC318's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi JC318. Keep eating a gluten filled diet until after the endo. is done. Did your Dr. check any other vitamin levels or your thyroid? It would be a good idea to check those too. Your aunt was diagnosed so it is in your family. After you are done with the endo, if it were me, I would go ahead and start gluten-free. If gluten is your problem you should... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety While Detoxing
Dixiebell replied to mylilcappi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's very possible it is a withdrawal symptom. -
My son started with this itchy, burning 'rash' on his knee on Friday 1-21-11. The pics of his knee are from Fri. 1-21-11 to Mon. 1-31-11. The rash on his chest was on Sat. 1-22-11, this went away by bed time. Open Original Shared Link He has been doing fairly well other than he has had fat in his stool. No rashes to speak of other than an occasional spot...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Belly Still Swollen
Dixiebell replied to LindsayRae329's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Could possibly be the lactose in dairy causing that. I think most don't do well with dairy in the beginning because the tips of the villi are damaged and you need them (they produce lactase) to digest lactose. Also soy causes problems for some. -
ARCHIVED So Sick I Need Help!
Dixiebell replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this. Think about what may have changed. Before this started happening did you start taking any new meds or supplements? Are you the only one gluten-free in your house? Are you still cooking gluten foods? Do you have your own cookware or replace old scratched cookware and utensils and toaster? Are you eating... -
I have had good results with a B-complex and fish oil in addition to the multi.
