ARCHIVED 5 Days Gluten Free With Horrible Headaches
Dixiebell replied to color-me-confused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi color, you are probably having withdrawls from stopping gluten. Consumption of gluten triggers production of exorphins, which are opiate chemicals with similar results as endorphins---promoting feelings of calm. In some people, gluten and/or casein can mimic opiates, such as morphine and heroin. When these foods are removed, intense cravings and even... -

ARCHIVED Test Diet For Gluten Free?
Dixiebell replied to Nen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Be aware that some people have delayed reactions. My daughter has a reaction three days later, this is the norm for her. I think I have seen to trial gluten-free for two to three months. If you are planning to do testing, blood, endo/biopsy, you should do that first because if you stop eating gluten and then get tested, your tests will not be accurate and... -
ARCHIVED Severe Depression/ Thyroid Issues Linked To Celiac Disease?
Dixiebell replied to keithceliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No more anti-depressants here either. I made sure to take a B-complex and fish oil and was able to taper off of the meds. Make sure to ask your Dr. the best way to do this. My depression went away and then fatigue started going away and then the aches and pains. It is a wonderful feeling. -

ARCHIVED Diagnosed Yesterday
Dixiebell replied to xxkristin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi kristin. Can anyone tell me any common foods that contain gluten that aren't really obvious, like pasta and bread? Canned soups- in the US I believe Campbells has gluten in all their soups. Progresso has some gluten-free soups, read the labels. Potato chips, snack chips- many of the flavored ones have gluten. There are some brands that are gluten-free... -

ARCHIVED When Will I Feel Better?
Dixiebell replied to ndw3363's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum. You are probably going through withdrawls which is very common. Gluten has an opiate effect and you can have symptoms from stopping eating it. Make sure your suppliments do not have barley grass in them, some do and still say gluten-free. -
I did not have any problems with it. None that I know of anyway. Just a thought, I did read on FB that something was going on there yesterday.

You might be able to clean the rice cooker with steel wool but if the roommates are using it for gluten foods you might get CC'ed. If the plastic colander is not scratced, it might be ok too. You do need to have your own cookware to be safe.

ARCHIVED New To This, Need Advice
Dixiebell replied to shoequeen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi shoequeen. Many, many people are diagnosed with IBS and actually have celiac or gluten intolerance. It's sad really that so many people could be helped w/o drugs by just changing their diets. Many Dr.s are clueless. No, you would not need to have problems all the time while eating gluten. If you read through the boards, some people don't have many or... -
ARCHIVED Sore Calves
Dixiebell replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also had sore/tight calves. It started after I had been gluten-free for several months. I thought it might be stress because my daughter was having so many stomach issues and newly pregnant. Even when I felt calm and had no stress it seemed to still happen. The tightness would start at my ankles and work up to below my knees and I just could not shake it... -
Hi mguillaum. Are you wanting to have her tested for celiac? If you are, she needs to have the gluten in her system so the testing will be as accurate as possible. Something you could do is maybe take the dairy out for now and see if that helps. Most people have had to remove dairy until they have healed.

Chicken, steak, pork are all good sources of protein. Nuts are also good.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Substitute For Cheerios?
Dixiebell replied to StephanieSD's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Stephanie. Glutino has some cereals like Cheerio's. Open Original Shared Link I also wanted to add that if you keep her gluten-free she will not have any gluten in her system and will test negative. A person needs to be eating gluten in order for the testing to be as accurate as possible. -
ARCHIVED Doc Says Not Celiac, But I Still Think It Might Be
Dixiebell replied to shelbysmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi shelbysmom. So you are saying she was positive on her tests? Do you have copies of them to post? There are a lot of people here that are good at reading them and maybe they can help you. Maybe you need to find another Dr. who will take you seriously. Some Dr.s will diagnose based on positive blood tests and positive response to the diet. She recently... -
