  1. Try RAW SUGAR. I react to "white" sugar and the raw is fine.
  2. Have been gluten-free for 6 months now and I notice that if I am glutened the symptoms are worse every time. I am very careful and stick to what I now is safe and when it happens I have only had 1 new thing (note to self, stay away from that) It also seems to take longer to recover from the episodes. Not sure if it is related but this time not only have...

  8. I completely agree here. You are cooking fresh, if a sauce is needed make your own. Watch the ingredient list on pre made things. We don't have separate cooking utensil just be careful, wash(we use bleach in the water) Both of us cook and the only thing that has gluten is his bread for sandwiches for work. Thinking that spouses can learn along with us...

    ARCHIVED The Dh Rash

Thank you for describing it, words just wouldn't come to me. Having a bad time with it right now, not sure what to do or what to use. Doctor doesn't know anything about gluten/wheat allergies so I don't get any support. He thinks that since I stopped eating gluten in Jan that I should be fine a long time ago.
  10. Wish I could help you there. I am wondering if it is the gluten coming out of system. I know that drugs take a long time and seep out of your pores, so why not gluten as it is a poison to us. I have what looks like acne but doesn't feel like it. It comes out on one side of my chin and one side of my chest. Have noticed this for the last few months and when...
  11. Exactly, just because they don't use flour for a coating on there fries doesn't mean that they don't fry them with the fish and chicken that do have flour. Cross contamination, Watch out for it.

ARCHIVED Frustrated And Mad At Doctors!

Is there a doctor in Vancouver that deals with gluten? I know there is a support group in Nanaimo, which is half hour from me. It is hard to get to things because of work and days off. Not to mention the fact that I can't afford to take time off work.

I live on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada and the closest doctor is in the next province hundreds of miles away. Thank you.
  14. Went to the doctor the other day for ct scan results for lower right abdominal pain. Nothing was wrong he said. Had mentioned to him about this site and was wondering about the itchy bumps I have been getting. I asked him if it was gluten coming out in my system, he laughed at me and said that was not possible. Gluten passes thru your system it doesn't stay...
  15. There is one in Wal Mart, not sure what it taste like. It is plain cheese pizza. I got gluten free pizza crust and made my own. good luck.
  16. I am wondering if anyone has notice a difference in their teeth? I recently went for a check up and asked my dentist if anything they used had gluten in it, apparently they did years ago but not anymore. Every other year I would go for a check up I was booked to go back in weeks for fillings and I usually had about 2. This year I only have a tiny speck...

  20. My husband and I have had a catering business and one of the things we ask the client is - "are there any vegetarians or food allergies?" We have had a few of each in our 10 yrs of this. We also had a restaurant and delt with food allergies and a very good customer has celiac so we catered to her. Now having what I call a "wheat allergy" since the doctor...
  21. I did some baking at work on Saturday, didn't eat any and had a reaction. I had nausea Sunday barely ate and bad headache with swollen eyes. Still today Monday my tummy is "tender", feels like my IBS symptoms. Since going gluten-free the beginning of Jan, I have had reactions that only last a few days. I hear you on the reading the labels better, I am...
  22. the best place to find all this is at healthfood stores, and right here on the internet. I have found the best info on line. Check out local area celiac association website too.
  23. My husband and I are using different butters. Cooking is easy as he eats the same things that I do mostly. He has his side of the toaster, different pan for pizza etc. Just have to be carefull, no crumbs on the counter, pan is wiped out, some prepared things say gluten-free but some of us have reactions. I am finding it trail and error. soaps , shampoos...
  24. you could be lactose intolerant too. gluten-free diet isn't that bad, just check the labels and cook fresh. lots of pre packaged and canned have wheat in it. from experience if you make gravy use just a little of the rice flour, works great. I too had a false/neg result from blood test but don't want to go back on gluten and feel like crap to find...
  25. I am 2 months gluten-free and have had great success. My headache of 30 yrs went away, pain in hands and feet disappeared, the tummy rumbles in the morning have gone. I have lost inches and even managed to lose a couple of pounds. I have way more energy and at time felt like I was on a caffeine buzz. I had been diagnosed with IBS over 10 yrs ago and before...
