ARCHIVED Coffee
sandiz replied to Mrs. C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have stopped drinking coffee as it made me sick to my stomach for days after. I also read some where that the roasting of coffee changes it some how and people who are gluten sensitive like me react to it. -

ARCHIVED Having A Problem With Brown Rice Pasta!
sandiz replied to tenaciousdarnell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We have tried rice pasta and found that it breaks up easy. Corn pasta holds better and tastes better (I think). It acts like the wheat pasta. -

You might want to check the "veggie" burgers, I have noticed that a lot of them contain wheat. Just because it is vegetarian doesn't me it is save for gluten-free.

ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
sandiz replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I too am self diagnosed. My doctor basically laughed at me, did a blood test that came back false positive. Years ago I had allergy test done which showed that I am allergic to wheat. Was told to quit my job at a bakery but no body ever told me to not eat wheat. Have been gluten-free since Jan 10, no more headaches, brain clearer, not so gassy, BM is more... -

ARCHIVED Help I Feel Like I Am Killing My Husband
sandiz replied to ksymonds84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Two things come to mind when I read this. I react to regular sugar. Now I used cane sugar or raw sugar. Pre shredded cheese from the store have a powder coating on them that is a wheat product. But I thank you for the pizza crust recipe, I will have to try. -
ARCHIVED A Lot Of People Have Adhd

ARCHIVED Ugh! Why Do I Still Feel Sick?
sandiz replied to LMac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Read your labels, Soya sauce has wheat in it to ferment it faster. That could have something to do with it. -
ARCHIVED I Said "gluten", Not "cheese"
sandiz replied to BethM55's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
From having a restaurant ourselves, yes the au jus should be the drippings from the roast but you will have so many people to feed that you make it bigger. Adding beef base which has gluten in it and maybe a little flour for a slightly thicker au jus. -
ARCHIVED I Said "gluten", Not "cheese"
sandiz replied to BethM55's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you eat out and have salad with cheese on it I would say no to the cheese. Most restaurants have pre shredded cheese and they have a powder on them to stop the sticking, this has gluten in it. So please don't know the waitress or the chef for the question. -
If your husband can eat anything than he can eat what you do. We recently went camping and I was fine. Hubby had his snacks and bread, had the same butter. Just a matter of being careful and watch for CC. I would say relax and enjoy.

ARCHIVED What Would You Have Done In This Restaurant Situation?
sandiz replied to SaraKat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are not being agressive you are being safe. I would have sent it back. I have when I have gone out. From owning a restaurant we want you to come back so best we fix the problem then not and have you not come back. -
I serve what ever it is that I eat. My husband and mother in law are not gluten-free but eat the same as me except the bread. A sandwich buffet is a nice idea, maybe a small loaf of normal bread for them. Good luck.

ARCHIVED Depressed Over Celiac, Need Help!
sandiz replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find that when I am having a bad time, homemade soups are what my body craves. Lately it is borscht, boil the beets and save the stock. Same with veg and chicken, save the stock cause it has all the vitamins and good things in it. The soup too is easy on your mouth and easy to chew even with some meat in it. Good luck. -
Worchestire sauce has wheat in it to help the fermenting. In Canada there is VH sauces that don't contain wheat products. Knorr stocks (dry and not cubes) don't have wheat products. Suggestion, read labels and look up ingredients online. Good luck.
