    I think it's likely that pill to treat celiac will work by suppressing immune response. As with treatments for psoriasis, etc., "side effects may include headache, upper respiratory infection, and lymphoma". No thanks. When they do have a pill, look for an increase in screening. A chronic condition like celiac is a pharmaceutical company's wet dream...

    I have MCS as well. I had to quit my job in an office building because I got so sick after they started renovating. Perfume is the worst. Is it me or is fragrance completely out of control?     I was thinking exactly the same thing. My (former) best friend in town really cut back on our contact since I went gluten free. Recently I chided him about never inviting me to do anything and he actually said "what is there to do with you?" I guess if it doesn't involve going out for beer or pizza then the answer is "nothing".

    Fellow Sufferers, I just have to chime in and say how much it hacks me off that in almost every article about celiac disease, the author feels the need to tack on "sufferer" after the disease. Like we're all walking around with sweaty foreheads and fingernails chewed to a nub. All that suffering, and for lack of a Twinkie. Well, gotta get back to my suffering...

    Most grained based dairy cattle silage is corn, but wheat is being used more. I think I read it can be up to 15%.     See Ghulia's post on page 1 of this thread. After I went gluten free, I had symptoms for months, particulary DH on my face. I switched my cats over to wheat free food and my symptoms cleared up. They were eating in the kitchen and sometimes I had fans going, so I think crumbs probably drifted into my food. I'm not suggesting everybody needs to switch...

    If true, then wouldn't milk produced by cows that are fed wheat silage also contain gluten?

    yeah, Rachel Ray eats on $1200 a month. I despise shows about eating out. Anthony Bourdain in particular - chef, food critic, and ugly American. I guess he maintains that refined palate by smoking 3 packs a day.

    The abstract for that woman who reintroduced gluten was posted on this site. I was trying to find it but the links off of site index are broken. I believe it was in Feb. 2006 research section.

    oh my god, all the time. I bet I've gained 20 lbs since going gluten free. I never appreciated how helpful a malabsorption disease was in controlling one's weight. We could get some coffee over at Raleigh Whole Foods some time if you want. Sarah

    Hi Leah, I'm not a good resource for that since I don't eat in restaurants at all. Durham has the usual stuff though - Outback, PF Changs, etc. Nana's and Magnolia Grill are a bit fancier so you might find accomodation there. Sarah

    Are you sure these are not caused by hidden gluten? The word sprue (as in celiac sprue) comes from a Dutch word for mouth sore. I had an episode of swollen tastebuds for weeks before I cut out the gluten. They were so painful I ended up cutting some of them off with a razor blade. Yeah, that hurt a lot too, but once the bumps were gone my tongue felt...

    Hi juliem, I've done those liver cleanses many times with good results. I started doing them because I developed multiple chemical sensitivity and ultimately had to quit my office job. MCS kept me from doing basic things - like go to a store or be with friends (modern first world humans are awash in chemicals). Also I was very sick with flu like symptoms...

    Another factoid I've seen frequently on this site is that the vast majority of celiacs are undiagnosed (and therefore not following the diet). If this is the case, then how can the increased risk of cancer be quantified? Do oncologists routinely screen for celiac? Or can someone give me a reference to a study on cancer rates among non-compliant celiacs...

    Andi, When you say "celiac sufferers", are you refering to undiagnosed celiacs who aren't on the diet or anyone with celiac disease? Most magazine articles refer to people on a gluten free diet as "sufferers". If a person is on the diet then their symptoms should disappear, so the implication is that the diet is a source of suffering.

    If he's looked over this board at all, particularly the coping and restaurant sections, he may have concluded that even people who try to be compliant get into gluten with some regularity. Not the same member in every post, but he may be thinking that gluten is unavoidable, so why bother, just let the boy cheat sometimes. Just a thought Karen's right...

    Choline citrate was recommended to me by a friend with chemical sensitivity (which I also have) as a remedy for brain fog. She said it works wonders after she's been dosed by perfume, etc. I don't know if it works for gluten poisoning, but I thought I would pass it along.
