Just got back from having lunch at Jason's Deli. They have a wonderful new Gluten Free menu. So far I feel pretty good. They use Udi gluten-free bread, but it is different than the Udi I buy at Whole Foods. These slices are large, soft and airy. The corned beef sandwich I had was delicious. I also ate the gluten-free items from the salad bar. If all goes...

ARCHIVED Newbie..need Help With Bread Please
Nor-TX replied to Mandy2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't have the will to bake my own bread, so I rely on store-bought brands. I have tried the Glutino Corn (not great), Energy something (couldn't eat it because each slice crumbled when I tried to take them out of the package), Rudi bread (good), Udi (good, but lots of huge air holes and little slices) and Katz Gluten Free Challah (The absolutely best... -
ARCHIVED Insensitive Co-Workers... Maybe One Day They Will Understand

I do not think Curiousgirl was refering to you when she said "insensitive". I believe she was refering to the young teacher at my school.... Please stay with the forum... we need you! -
ARCHIVED Bagels
Nor-TX replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are delicious, delicious, delicious. Plain or toasted, with marg, cream cheese or peanut butter, or sliced tomatoes or chicken salad... very yummy, soft like a real bagel. I buy 5 or 6 bags at a time and keep them in the freezer. They thaw in minutes and if I am taking one to work the next day I just put it in a little baggie and it stays soft and... -
ARCHIVED Insensitive Co-Workers... Maybe One Day They Will Understand
Nor-TX posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I work in an elementary school and yesterday I found out that one of the staff has Mono. Apparently they diagnosed her on Friday and she came right back to school. I get Remicade every 5 weeks and the side effects is that my immune system is compromised. I try to stay away from sick kids/staff and I use lots of hand sanitizer. Well I was in this classroom... -
When I am taking bread to work, I pop it into one of those inexpensive fold over baggies and by the time I get to work it is soft and yummy. Works for bagels too. I just tried the Rudi's bread and I like it better than the Udi brand.

ARCHIVED Rudi's Bread - Better Than Udi
Nor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried the regular Rudi's bread frozen from Whole Foods. It was really good. The slices are bigger than Udi slices and in the two loaves I purchased there were no slices with big air holes. The flavor is slightly sweeter than Udi and the sandwiches and toast I made was delicious. It was about 60 cents cheaper and is stored in the freezer section. There... -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Beer
Nor-TX replied to BcG3987's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The funny thing about this beer is that it actually tastes better very very cold right from the bottle rather than pouring it into a glass or even a frosty mug. I found I didn't really care for it and have changed to Hard Cider... I really like the Hornsby's brand. It gives me the sames giggles.... and tastes better than the Redbridge. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Some Yummy Cereal?
Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I love the main street brand, but I wanted something lower in calories without nuts... just something like a crunchy type. Thanks for taking the time to comment. -
I've been buying the Great Value Chicken breasts for years, before and after going gluten free. I have never experienced a reaction from these. The only complaint I have about them is that sometimes you will get tiny pieces and other times maybe 2 huge pieces and a bunch of little pieces. I still buy them because they are handy to have in the freezer....

ARCHIVED Looking For Some Yummy Cereal?
Nor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am going through something yucky right now and feeling nauseated in the mornings. I am going to Sprouts to buy some dry crunchy cereal after work and was wondering if anyone has some suggestions on a yummy dry cereal that I can munch on when eating is out of the question? -
ARCHIVED Glutino Bagels
Nor-TX replied to c12's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've found that bread of any kind just doesn't do very well in the microwave. Udi bagels are delicious without toasting but even better when toasted. I buy several bags of bagels and keep them in the freezer. When I plan to take one the to work the next day, I take it out at night and put it into one of those inexpensive fold over baggies and in the morning... -
Hi, Not sure where WV is... I live north of Dallas in a small city.

Larry Mac, I know we live close to each other but I haven't been able to find the gluten-free Bisquick. Where in Wylie did you find it?

ARCHIVED Gluten? Dairy? Neither? Both?
Nor-TX replied to imsohungry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am also gluten-free and DF. If you want to be absolutely sure that there is no dairy, lactose or casein in a food, look for a Parve symbol. It is always on the label, usually in the bottom left or right corner. It might say Parve or it might be a "P" in a circle. This is for people who are on a kosher diet and cannot mix mear and milk foods. If there... -
ARCHIVED Udi Bread And Bagels Different Lately?
Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bincongo, Yes, yes... talk to them... that would be great. I also think we should start to send them emails when we get a product that isn't the way it used to be. Afterall, if they don't know we are having a problem, they can't fix it. I took three slices of Udi bread out this morning, wrapped them in saran and just felt them (I'm at work)and the crusts... -
ARCHIVED Udi Bread And Bagels Different Lately?
Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I purchased three bags of Daiya cheese at Whole Foods and the first bag was great. A week later, when I went to open the second bag it was green with mold. I opened the third bag and it was the same. I didn't take it back because I didn't have a receipt and the 40 minute drive just seemed too much at the time. This happened in June and I just haven't... -
ARCHIVED Rudi's
Nor-TX replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't seen Rudi bread, but I think by far the best gluten free bread is the Katz Gluten Free Challah. I just wish they had a local distributor instead of having to order it on the Internet. It is sweet and moist - a little like banana bread. Whenever I get my order shipped I can practically eat a loaf with dairy free margarine in one sitting... -
ARCHIVED Udi Bread And Bagels Different Lately?
Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The problem would be that in the 25 minutes it takes me to get home from Whole Foods, it would already be thawed out. This change in the bread and bagels seems to have happened over the last few months. I will continue to buy it because here in North Texas, it is really the only decent gluten free bread available. It's a shame that it has gone down hill... -
ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free/casein Free Foods?
Nor-TX replied to Silverfyre's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What I have found is that when a products lists lactose free it is not casein free. To be completely free of dairy, look for a little Parve symbol. It could be a P in a circle, or simply the word "parve". It means it contains absolutely no dairy. I buy the Smart Balance light margarine that has Parve written on it. It actually tastes delicious, melts... -
ARCHIVED Udi Bread And Bagels Different Lately?
Nor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been buying the Udi brand bread and bagels for a year or so, and in the last couple of months I have noticed a difference. I buy my products at the same Whole Foods store I always have, always check the "best by" date and make sure it is the freshest. I come home and freeze them in the same freezer I always have. I take a couple of slices of... -
ARCHIVED Store-Bought Bread?
Nor-TX replied to Superfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Between the Katz and Udi bread, I prefer the Katz, but I have to buy it online. I save it for special times. Other times I use the Udi brand. The bagels are wonderful. The pizza crust terrible. If you look at any ads for the Udi pizza crusts they look totally different than they are when you use them. I have tried the oven and the toaster oven - I... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Canned White Chicken

Yikes... now I am confused because according to the Walmart website, it is not gluten free. I guess I will have to actually call them. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Canned White Chicken
Nor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know of a brand of canned white chicken that is gluten free? I have bought the Great Value brand from Walmart because the ingredients seemed safe, but unfortunately after contacting them, it is not gluten free.
