ARCHIVED Heartland Gluten Free PastaNor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I found a new gluten free pasta at Walmart over the weekend and have tried it twice. It is absolutely delicious. It is called Heartland Gluten Free. It is a corn and rice blend and tastes exactly like regular pasta. My DH tasted it and even proclaimed he could not tell the difference. He is not on a gluten free diet. The 12 oz package is 2.00. At...

This past Friday I picked up dinner at Subway. The server was very knowledgable when making my sandwich. He put on fresh gloves, got a bun (looked like a hamburger bun) which was packaged and a knife that was packaged separately. He put 2 pieces of paper on the board and carefully cut the bun. I ordered a Subway club with spicy mustard and red wine vinaigrette...

I agree with larry mac. The consumer has pushed to get as many gluten free menu choices as we have and we could only hope that more will come. Subway is trying out the gluten free items in the Dallas/Tyler area as a trial run. If this is successful, they will add these choices to other Subways in other cities. Granted, when we eat out there is always...

ARCHIVED Betty Crocker gluten-free Cake Mix In Canada?Nor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I live in Dallas and can find the Betty Crocker gluten-free cake or brownie mixes everywhere but my SIL who lives in Toronto cannot. Any Canadians/Torontonians out there know if these are available up north?

Yahoo!!!!!!!!! The locations now have the gluten free buns. If anyone would like a copy of the .pdf menu just email me or message me and I will send it to you. The location in Murphy across Sprouts and the one in Wylie both have the items.

The What's For Dinner Tonight ChatNor-TX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Mmmm... Please post the recipe when you have perfected it. There is a gluten-free teriyaki sauce I think by San J... but it is mostly salt and too strong.

The What's For Dinner Tonight ChatNor-TX replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I have lived in Texas for 15 years and have never heard of Frito pie. I come from Canada and this isn't something we have up there. So when I heard about this a few days ago we decided to try it with gluten-free Fritos and gluten-free Wolf no bean chili. My husband had shredded cheese over, but I had my plain. OMG where has this been all my life??? It...

Great!! Please post if you notice that the Wylie store has the buns. Have you tried the gluten-free menu at Sunny Street? I've eaten there several times and the attention to the gluten-free foods is amazing. They have a specific menu and the manager comes over to check that everything is done well. Also at the Chili's the manager comes over when he is...

I checked the website but could not find out any information about the locations of the Subway stores that will be offering the gluten-free items or even what those items will be. I live just outside of Plano and visit Tyler occasionally, so I am very interested in these plans. I wrote to the company and will post any answer I receive.

ARCHIVED The Tale Of The Moldy CookiesNor-TX replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have had this happen twice with Daiya cheese purchased at Whole Foods. The first time I opened the package the cheese was all green even though the "best buy" date was a long way off. The package was not split or opened in any way. It took me weeks to purchase the next bag - it was fine. Again I bought a bg and once more when I opened it the center was...

Yep, their comment is usually... "Oops... sorry, a little won't hurt you." and then they giggle.

I heard the nurse telling another staff that she can't eat wheat because of the gluten in it. To me, that means she needs to be on a gluten free diet. She is always complaining of headaches and body aches... now I know why.

ARCHIVED Poll: gluten-free Diet - Easy Or HardNor-TX replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I voted that it was relatively hard and less than three years. It has been about 1 1/2 years. I am almost 61 and it is very difficult to change your attitude about food. I worked in the food magazine industry for many years and developed a taste for lots of different kinds of foods which for the most part I can no longer eat. I work in an elementary...

I work in an elementary school. Today certain staff were supposed to bring in treats - it was my day. I brought in gluten-free/dairy free hummous and gluten-free riceworks chips and labelled the platter gluten free and dairy free. Our school nurse was in the room stuffing herself with rice krispie squares, melted cheese from the inside of a bread bowl...

ARCHIVED How About Bread Crumbs?Nor-TX replied to TPT's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I keept the heels from my Udi and Rudi and Katz breads in the freezer. When I need breadcrumbs, I take them out, thaw them and whirl them in the food processor. I also cut them into pieces, drizzle some melted dairy free margarine and season them and cook them on high in the microwave stirring often until they are crispy. I use the croutons for topping...

ARCHIVED Katz Gluten Free - Free ShippingNor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I just found out that my favorite bakery is shipping free on orders over $30.00 for the rest of November. This bread is soft and moist and almost has a nutty taste. The texture reminds me of banana bread and is slightly sweet. I live in north Texas and it isn't sold around this area and ordering it has always been very expensive - sometimes as much as...

I love sushi but stick to sashimi now. We have some wonderful sushi buffets and I eat only the sashimi, steamed rice. I bring my own wasabi (without wheat) and my own little packets of soy sauce. Other than being full, I have never experienced any problems.

Isn't it funny how the holidays bring out the best in people and the worst in people? How sad for you, but even sadder for your family because they will not be a complete family for the holiday.. I believe they probably already live fragmented lives...

ARCHIVED On My Way To Gluten-Free BakeryNor-TX replied to TPT's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease You know I wish everyone had a city or even a state on their profile. Sometimes I read about a gluten-free place/item and then spend time researching only to find it is in a state 5 states away I am north of Dallas....

ARCHIVED Hamburger Bun Emergency!Nor-TX replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Katz Gluten Free makes a delicious bun that I use for burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. You might want to check their website to see where they are sold in Toronto. You could call them - 1888 431-5289. There is a list of gluten free bakeries in Toronto at: Open Original Shared Link Good luck!

A new cafe opened north of Dallas near Plano in Murphy. It is called Sunny Street cafe. They have a gluten free menu and I had breakfast there on Sunday. It was absolutely delicious and I was assured by the manager everything was totally gluten-free. I had 2 eggs, home fries and bacon and gluten-free lemon tea. It has been so long since I could go out...

ARCHIVED When Did They Lose Their Manners?Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease You just made me laugh. This always happens to me and when the moment passes and I haven't added my response I just figure, "Oh well.... they would have probably tried to do one better". My other question is how do people become such experts at so many things? I figure I have lived a pretty normal life and yet hearing about how wonderful they are,...

I know this is off topic, but it is something that annoys me so much I just had to vent. Why is it, when having a conversation with one, two, three or more people the following happens. You start a story about something and after a couple of sentences, someone interrupts and proceeds to take over, never allowing you to complete your story. It doesn
