  1. Had my "go to" meal last night because we got in late from a doctor's appointment. Had sardines packed in mustard sauce mushed up on toasted Udi bread with thinly sliced tomatoes and lots of salt and pepper. Had some pickles and corn totilla chips - Santitos I think. I know that alot of people don't like sardines, but I grew up eating them and like them...
  2. I know exactly what you are talking about. We were in a school staff meeting and I had a bowl of Glutino pretzels with a little container of almond butter. The teacher sitting next to me was eating a big delicious looking brownie and she was holding it, put it down, took the same hand and dipped it into my bowl and rummaged around so she could get a handful...
  3. I have had headaches for many years and when I went gluten and dairy free I thought they would stop. They did not. I recently went for metal patch allergy testing and included with that was fragrance. The doctor discovered that I have an allergic response to fragrance. I work in an elementary school and each of the sweet young teachers wears a different...
  4. I also have multiple digestive issues. I have Colitis, IBS, GERD, Reflux, Hiatal Hernia, Gluten intolerance, Dairy and Lactose intolerance, Egg intolerance, and Peanut Butter gives me Angelina Jollie lips although no formal diagnosis. I am facing possible whole Thyroid gland and/or nodule surgery. My Vitamin D and iron are low and every 5 weeks I get...
  5. I'm still working with the flash frozen haddock fillets that Sprouts has for sale for $3.97 per pound, regular 9.00. I defrosted a pound and rinsed them and cut them into serving pieces. On a dinner plate I placed about 1/2 cup of gluten free Bisquick and seasoned it with salt, pepper and paprika. I coated the fish pieces with the flour mixture flipping...
  6. I just picked up a box of Erewhon Organic Rice Twice Cereal from Sprouts yesterday. It was on sale - 2/$7.00. I can't do milk, so I eat it dry at work for breakfast. It was delicious. It is gluten free and Kosher. Excellent taste.
  7. Mmmmmm Swiss Chalet is gluten free? I am visiting Toronto in July and haven't been back home in many years. My mouth still waters when I think of Swiss Chalet. You can be sure that I will be having all the quarter chicken white with extra dipping sauce that I can get in three days!!!! Their fries are the best.. even better than McD's. Thanks for the...
  8. I used to love Campbells Tomato soup. I recently had a craving for the Old Fashioned Tomato Rice soup that is no longer around, and being gluten and dairy free I made my own. I can't do onions either so this is what I came up with. I started with homemade chicken broth - maybe a couple of cups or so, but a can or two of Swanson chicken broth would work...
  9. Sprouts has a sale on flash frozen haddock fillets - Regular 9.00 per pound - on sale for 3.97 so I bought a couple of pounds. I defrosted 1 lb and cut into serving size pieces. In a pryrex dish I melted some dairy free Smart Balance parve margarine in the microwave and then salted and peppered it. I took the pices of fish and coated them with the seasoned...
  10. I use the Smart Balance Light. Look for the Parve sign on the side of the carton. That indicates there is absolutely no dairy products in the margarine. I use it in cakes, cookies and frying and it works great. It tastes good too.

    ARCHIVED Jason's Deli

I've been to the Jasons in Plano Texas and had almost the same experience. Even though it was busy, the server was very careful about making my sandwich. I did not have any gluten reactions. Deli sandwiches was definitely something I have missed. I love the pastrami with hot mustard and house chips. Mmmmm...
  12. My Vitamin D levels are low so the doctor wants me to buy OTC 5,000 unit Vitamin D pills. Has anyone taken these and are these gluten free?

    ARCHIVED Nausea

If you have trouble with nausea, you might want to ask your doctor for Zofran. It is a sub-lingual (melts on the tongue) little pill. Tastes a little like a baby asprin. Ask for the generic though. It is hundreds of dollars cheaper. It is called Ondansetron. It is perfectly safe even if you are pregnant. It is often given to pregnant patients. It comes...
  14. I've posted a few times about how people on our elementary school staff are. The sweet young things eat all the cake, cookies, brownies, chips, pizza they want. I always bring my own snacks and more often than not they make a comment. I can deal with the funny looks and comments as I sit and eat my glutino pretzels or baggie of fruity pebbles, but what...
  15. I have a box of the Bisquick gluten-free mix. Has anyone tried it with coating chicken breasts? I have 4 breasts defrosting for dinner and was just going to bbq them and add some rice.
  16. I never drank beer often, but I remember a little Sports Bar in Brampton Ontario that served platters of wings with Molson Canadian so cold that when you poured it into your icy mug, it would get ice crystals. The wings were hot, beer cold. Once in a while I will have hard cider now, but it gives me heartburn for days - it's all that apple juice...
  17. I made a pot of the Heartland fusilli pasta sold at Walmart for 2.00 per bag. Sauteed some asparagus, mushrooms, jumbo shrimp with a little dairy free margarine and lots of pepper and salt. Added some fresh chopped tomatoes at the last minute and plated it up. When I brought it to the dinner table, my DH looked over and said, "That looks like something...
  18. When you listed the foods you ate that although they are indeed gluten free, but make you ill, my body twinged. I definitely would be rolling on the floor if I ate what you do. I cannot eat onions, broccoli, cheese, popcorn, peanuts. It is a very good idea to keep a journal and track how you feel after eating everything you put in your mouth. I am still...
  19. For some strange reason I have been craving the Campbells Old Fashioned Tomato Rice soup I used to eat many many years ago. I have searched the Internet for a similar recipe and tried to improvise. I can't use milk but am mostly looking for that smooth unique flavor of that soup. This soup is no longer being made so I can't even check out the ingredients...
  20. Oh my gosh, I am so happy I found this thread. I am facing 3 surgeries within the next 3 months. One will be outpatient, one a couple of days and one total knee replacement. I saw the Ortho surgeon yesterday and told him about my concerns and he said he completely understood. He told me he has IBS and knows the exact location of every bathroom in the...
  21. Heartland gluten free fusilli (purchased at Walmart for 2.00) and meat sauce made from Prego Traditional sauce, lean ground beef and jazzed up with spices and a splash of hotsauce. DH will have the sauce over regular spaghetti and garlic bread. I picked up 2 gluten free brownies from Subway. They are expensive (1.99 each) but absolutely delicious when...
  22. I drink this very occasionally because it gives me terrible heartburn. Has a good buzz and flavor... but Woodcock Green Apple is better. Still gives me heartburn though. I think my GERD is stirred up by apple juice.
  23. My DH has a philosophy about green vegetables. He figures that if something stays in the fridge long enough it will turn green and it would not be good for you to eat. Of course he won't eat green vegetables because as he says it, "They are green because they are bad and he mother told him never to eat anything green from the fridge." I would love...
  24. The funny thing is that I was eating them a year ago and although I loved the taste, I got a stomach ache each time I ate them. Thought maybe I was eating too many, so I cut it down to 2 per day and still felt sick afterwards. I haven't had them in quite a while. Maybe it is time to try them again.
