ARCHIVED Corn TortillasNor-TX replied to buckwheat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I love the Mission Extra Thin corn tortillas. They are gluten free, dairy free, Kosher and three are 110 calories. I pierce a couple of slits in three (so they won't puff up) and pop them in the toaster oven while I slice 3 mushrooms, 1/2 tomato, red or green pepper or any other veggies I have lurking in the fridge. When the tortillas are very lightly...

ARCHIVED Tamolly's Texarkana (And Chilada's In Plano)Nor-TX replied to joelmw's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants I live in the Plano area also and the only restaurant that I will eat at is Jason's Deli. It is really the only place in this area, where I know there is a gluten-free procedure in place and is strictly being followed. I know that because I watch my sandwich being made. I have never had an issue with getting gluten symptoms afterwards. Admittedly, I don...

ARCHIVED Annoyed By People Who Think They Know MoreNor-TX replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease The ones that drive me nuts are the ones who are not Celiac, not even Gluten Intolerant, but "they have read on the Internet...." I have been gluten free for 5 years now but obviously reading something on the 'net overrules anything I might be saying. Why is it all us older type females who take water aerobics think this is the time to share the...

ARCHIVED Canyon Bakehouse ProductsNor-TX replied to LabyrinthRunner13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I live in north Dallas and the Sprouts store is now carrying the Canyon Bakehouse products. There is a 25% sale on right now so I decided to try a couple of new things. I bought a loaf of the 7 grain and a loaf of the cinnamon raisin. Oh my, these are good!!! I ate them right out of the bag with some dairy free margarine. They are weighty and moist and...

ARCHIVED Other Food Issues Menu SuggestionsNor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Hi. I didn't know the Ore-Ida hashed potatoes cubes were gluten free. I am going to drop by the supermarket today to look. I must admit, I love fries. I love those hash browns too. As a kid, a treat was a plate of fries with gravy (brown), vinegar, ketchup and a coke. Nowadays, I still cook a plate of fries, no gravy, no ketchup and still love them...

ARCHIVED Other Food Issues Menu SuggestionsNor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Wow... what a lot of suggestions and great ones at that. I love the ideas of sweet potato fries, first in a pan and then on the cookie sheet. I do believe there are frozen sweet potato frozen fries that are gluten free. The burger place nearby has a dedicated "fries" fryer. They only do regular and sweet potato fries in it. Sometimes I will splurge and...

ARCHIVED Other Food Issues Menu SuggestionsNor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Because I have so many gastro issues.. see my signature. Fresh fruit and raw vegetables irritate the Colitis. I have found I can have a little tomato once in a while even though it causes the GERD to react. I have tried canned vegetables like asparagus but quite honestly I just don't like them. I sometimes buy asparagus when it is on sale and cook it...

ARCHIVED Other Food Issues Menu SuggestionsNor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I have loved following the "What are you cooking tonite" thread although I cannot eat most of the suggestions. Cannot eat fresh vegetables or fruits, dairy, beans, tomato sauce, garlic, eggs. I am gluten intolerant, lactose and casein, egg, garlic intolerant. I have GERD and Colitis. Each and every meal is a thought issue. I know there are others who...

Yes, the Udi loaf from Jasons is probably the best gluten free bread I have eaten. They sell it frozen, so make sure you go right home and pop it in the freezer, otherwise the slices will stick togethe. It is 30 ounces, huge, wonderfully normal and sells for $11.99. It is well worth it in my opinion. I have 2 or 3 in the freezer so I never run out. It...

ARCHIVED Chex - Gluten FreeNor-TX replied to WestCoastGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have made up a delicious munchy mixture. I take 1/2 cup rice chex and 1/2 cup of corn chex and mix them in a soup bowl. I spray on some butter flavor Pam and quickly sprinkle with salt and a little sugar. Mix them up again and spray and sprinkle one more time. They are a great substitution for sweet and salty snacks and only about 115 calories. I don...

ARCHIVED Challah/bread & PizzaNor-TX replied to NicoleR's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have ordered many times from Katz Gluten Free Bread company. Actually the bread is delicious. Not exactly like old fashioned challah from my youth, but it really is good. It is not twisted but is square. Check out there website. They have all kinds of really delicous goodies like rugalach, marble cake, buns etc. They will ship free on orders over...

I live just outside of Plano and was wondering if there are any support groups here?

ARCHIVED Water Retention Vs. Gas...Nor-TX replied to kaki-clam's topic in Related Issues & Disorders To me, it sounds like you might also have IBS. If I ate the kinds of foods you ate, I would be ill because of the IBS. Anything with grease, raw vegetables, raw fruit, eggs, tomato products, fried items, spicy items are out of the question. Your foods sound yummy but they do cross the IBS list of no no foods. Also it sounds like you eat a lot of candy...

ARCHIVED Dessert Idea NeededNor-TX replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I use the Betty Crocker gluten free mixes and use the Smart Balance Heart Right Light margarine that is dairy free. Make sure there is a U symbol with "Parve" under it on the right side of the name. That means it is absolutely, 100% dairy free. It works great in these mixes. I also add 1/4 cup of the So Delicious coconut dairy free Parve plain or vanilla...

Jasons has been my "go to" restaurant anytime someone wants to meet me for lunch. I have the gluten free sandwich with corned beef, spicey mustard, house chips and a small salad from the salad bar. I taken half the sandwich and half the salad home sometimes for the next day. I also ONLY buy the Udi bread that they use for sandwiches now as my home bread...

ARCHIVED Nuclear Stress Test - What To Eat?Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Eggs as part of something is ok. It just that a plain egg - scrambled, fried, hard boiled... makes me sick. Yikes!!!! I never realized that Pringles has wheat starch... I just checked. Thank you for letting me know. I will stop and get some Lays on the way to the hospital this afternoon. Thank you (smacking my forehead)!

ARCHIVED Nuclear Stress Test - What To Eat?Nor-TX replied to Nor-TX's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Unfortunately I can't eat nuts. I have Colitis, GERD, IBS and foods that are ruled out are: fresh vegetables and fruit, tomato products, garlic, nuts and seeds and beans, beef, eggs, peanut butter (allergic), fried foods. Pretty much anything that is yummy. This test is a stress test with chemicals because I have a recent knee replacement and arthritis...

Today I am going for a nuclear stress test on my heart. It starts today (Friday) and finishes on Monday. For both days I have been told to bring a "fatty" meal to eat during the test. The nurse suggested cheese and crackers. I explained that I cannot eat gluten or dairy. She said, "Well just eat a couple, that should be ok." Again I explained the situation...

I have a problem eating rice cakes, they don't always sit well, but I am going to try this with those thin styrofoam corn cakes I buy at Sprouts. Have you tried the corn cakes? They are very thin and actually taste pretty good. At least smeared with dairy free marg and peanut butter. Thanks for the suggestion!

ARCHIVED Best Place For Udi BreadNor-TX posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have eaten at Jason's Deli lots of times and love their Udi bread deli sandwiches. The bread is so totally different than the stuff you buy at WF. It is bigger, heavier with a wonderful flavor and texture. It is alot like the old fashioned rye bread I ate as a kid. When I was there over the weekend for my favorite pastrami sandwich, I happened to...

ARCHIVED Creamy Dressing?Nor-TX replied to Hungrylady's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips I buy the Cedars gluten free, dairy free, parve hummus with tahini. You can add it to anything to make a creamy dressing. Just dipping glutino pretzels in it makes a fine treat.

Jasons is one of my favorite places to eat in Dallas. I go about once a week. The pastrami with spicy mustard is wonderful. BTW... the chips on the side are gluten free too. Sometimes I pick up a bread too. The Udi bread there is larger and has a different texture than the bread I buy at Whole Foods. It is great. You can buy the meat too... I think...

ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency--PollNor-TX replied to PainfulSpaghetti's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease My Vit D stays in the mid 20s even though I take 5,000 a day and I get 200 mg of Venofer every 5 weeks with my Remicade infusion. Iron levels are improving slowly...

Another silly suit.... who can we sue because of the hot weather? Who can I sue because my sweet red pepper was rotten inside? Who can I sue because my coffe was cold or because my coffee was hot and I spilled it? If you choose to go out to an establishment to eat, you are doing it on your own free will. If you eat at a burger place and get ill so...

ARCHIVED Can You Eat Gluten-Free Oats?Nor-TX replied to Skylark's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I agree with Mushroom. To come new to a forum and after a couple of posts you consider yourself an expert on gluten free/gluten intolerant issues is a little presumptuous don't you think. There are studies and lots of articles in current publications discussing this absolute topic. Interolerance is as much a real disease as is being full blown Celiac....
