  1. I don't know how things are where you live, but here bread is almost always sold wrapped in plastic or other packaging. The likelihood of the bag being contaminated would be so close to zero that I would not worry.
  2. Avatars can be seen only by logged-in members. Personal photos are visible to guests.
  3. When tomato paste is listed as an ingredient it is gluten-free. I have never seen a can of tomato paste that had anything other than tomatoes as an ingredient. I don't know what your daughter is reacting to in dark soda. Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola are gluten-free. But there could be something other than gluten that is causing a problem for her. Possible...
  4. Many celiacs have other sensitivities besides gluten. Sensitivity to nightshades (which include tomatoes) is not uncommon. If the caramel color was derived from wheat, that would have to be disclosed as "wheat" in the US, but I have never known caramel color to be derived from wheat in North America. It is one of those celiac urban myths. Kraft's labeling...
  5. As the original post indicates, the topic is gluten in the wax. The last six posts have had nothing to do with gluten.
  6. Good morning, all! Unsettled weather continues around here. It can get quiet here in Sillyville when Em is away.
  7. Not everyone would agree with that statement. If you are celiac, then there are varying degrees of damage to the villi. The Marsh scale measures villi damage. Four (4) is the most severe, and is sometimes called "end stage." At Marsh 4 the villi have been destroyed. Malabsorption is severe, and extreme nutrient deficiencies are evident. Symptoms are severe...
  8. In her book, Shelley Case states that spices are safe in Canada and the US. I don't worry about them. Seasonings are a whole nuther ball game, though. Be careful of the information in this thread, since it is over three years old, and some things may have changed. Kraft's labeling policy hasn't.
  9. Hi, Jillian! Welcome to the silliness! Not all of our discussions centre on body parts. I pheel lepht out on this current one.
  10. Jess is indeed the current Kween of the Psillies.
  11. Linking to amazon dot com is not permitted on this site. But the page there would be /exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000TB2YX6
  12. Foods sold in the US must conform to US labeling laws, regardless of the country of origin. The only vinegar you need to avoid is malt vinegar, which is always labeled as "malt vinegar."
  13. The storm system has passed through, and all we got was noise and rain. Reports are coming in about storm damage all around us, but we are seemingly unaffected.
  14. You need to begin reading here in the Silly thread to understand Sam. Click the right-arrow in the header to go to the post where it started.
  15. Yeah, tornadoes near here, but none affected us. News reports still coming in, but it appears that the front and danger have passed us by. The system is moving east, in your direction.
  16. 'Twas delicious. Pholks can't seem to agree whether it should be lasagna or lasagne...Open Original Shared Link lists both. Moi? Non, merci.
  17. Hmmm, a trip to Niagara Phallus sounds quite stimulating. Only Emily would look at phalls and see what she did (tho my spell checker suggests it as one correction). Okay, so if there is SHAMpoo, what happens when the poo is not sham? There's a delightful image for the shower. I think I hear the sounds of the Political Correctness Police heading...
  18. We have seen unsubstantiated rumors about contaminated produce here from time to time, but nobody has ever provided credible evidence to back up the rumor. If you are a celiac in recovery, you may have reactions to foods which are gluten-free while your injured gut heals.
  19. As I understand it, the answer is yes. The protein in oats (avenin) resembles the proteins in wheat, rye and barley enough that some celiacs react to it even if it is completely pure. Even those who don't are advised to limit the amount that they consume.
  20. You addressed this to Bev, but as a fellow moderator, I will post what was sent to AliB regarding being on topic in mid-May: The subject of the thread is the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. What does that mean? The Concise Oxford Dictionary, 9th ed. says: diet n. 1 the kinds of food that a person or animal habitually eats. 2 a special course of food to...
  21. Big lies of our times: "The check is in the mail." "I gave at the office." "Your call is important to us."
  22. Susan (ranger), The sillies are a special group of people. You can say anything here--we won't take offense and you needn't apologize. I am reminded tonight of this quotation from Erich Segal's Love Story:
  23. We visited in 1989 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hike up Diamond Head is worth it. Things may have changed in twenty years, but we needed to take a flashlight to see in the tunnels. The history at Pearl Harbor is fascinating. Be sure to go out to the Arizona Memorial. I'll think of other things in time.
  24. Wheat in the McDonalds fries (in the US only) is a subject that has been beaten to death over the past three and a half years. Click here to read the original thread from February, 2006. There have been numerous other topics since, but they just rehash the same points. In the end, you make a personal decision that is right for you.
