  1. Ragu is a Unilever brand. Any gluten will be clearly disclosed in the ingredients. The cheeses are naturally gluten-free.
  2. Use plain lump charcoal instead of the briquettes. It is pure. The briquettes come from grinding and molding with a binder so they look nice.
  3. Prior discussions here have come to the conclusion that heat can destroy gluten under extreme conditions. You would need to bring the temperature to 600oF and keep it there for 30 minutes. Oh, and be aware that most pre-formed charcoal briquettes have wheat in the binder.
  4. At the top of the page while viewing a topic, there is a button labeled "Watch Topic." Click it, and you will get a menu of options for being notified. In your profile settings, under notification options, you can choose which method(s) to use to notify you of various events.
  5. Modified food starch is still on some obsolete lists. In the US, it is gluten-free UNLESS explicitly labeled as wheat. Wheat must, by federal law (FALCPA) be clearly disclosed. This law has been in effect for more than five years.
  6. Unfotunately, all of those of which I am aware contain wheat in some form. As a retailer who sells pet food and supplies, I have seen quite a few brands.
  7. Yeast can be fed by any carbohydrate, but especially by sugars. Gluten is not needed, and is not even a good source. Gluten is protein, not a carbohydrate.
  8. Hi, and welcome. The Canadian Celiac Association considers tocopherols to be gluten-free in food, regardless of source. They are highly refined. If I don't need to worry about them in my food, you shouldn't need to worry about them in your lipstick. There is always a risk when you eat at a restaurant. I eat out occasionally, but am selective about the...
  9. With regard to the 20 ppm rule for "gluten-free" -- in the US it does not yet exist. Despite the requirement in FALCPA for FDA to develop and implement a defintion for "gluten-free" it has not yet happened. So, gluten-free means whatever the company wants it to mean. Worse, it means whatever the plaintiff's lawyer can convice a jury it should mean. ...
  10. As said, there is no requirement to disclose shared equipment or facilities. Those companies that do so are doing it voluntarily. So, if you see such a notice, give it consideration, but if you don't see one, don't assume anything. In the United States, the law (FALCPA) contains an explicit exemption for "highly refined oils" without actually defining...
  11. I was diagnosed in 2000 at the age of 46. I had severe issues at the time. I have been gluten-free for over a decade, and my life is the best it has ever been. Other that having to strictly avoid gluten, my health is good. I do have autoimmune diabetes which may or may not be connected to my celiac disease.
  12. Hi. I am in Markham, east of Warden and north of Hwy 7. There are a number of other members in the GTA.
  13. Both procedures are usually done. The endoscopy is to look for damage to the villi in the upper part of the small intestine (diagnostic of celiac disease). The colonoscopy is to ensure that there are not other problems present in the colon. It cannot diagnose celiac disease, since the damage caused by celiac disease is not in the colon.
  14. I can't see any gluten source in there either. If you are reacting to something on that list, my first guess would be the sorbital [sic]. Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol which causes digestive upset in some people.
  15. This topic is almost five years old. General Mills have not changed their label policy--any gluten ingredient will be clearly disclosed by naming the grain. However, in 2011, "not gluten-free" often means only that the product is not tested and the company won't risk legal liability. Read more about customer service answers here.
  16. The vernal equinox is my definition. It comes at 7:21 pm today Toronto time, just under two hours from now. Did the clocks thing last weekend.
  17. I don't use Shockwave, although I have heard of it. Sometimes stuff just happens. You might want to make sure you have the latest version. Open Original Shared Link Less than six hours until spring arrives. Shroomie--you get autumn instead.
  18. False negative results are fairly common, especially in children. I am not sufficiently familiar with the tests to comment on what might cause a false positive, but I do know that they are rare. Sensitivity to MSG occurs in people with celiac disease at about the same rate as in the general population. Despite urban myths to the contrary, MSG is gluten...
  19. Some doctors will diagnose celiac disease based on blood work alone. Others still insist on a positive biopsy before making a definitive diagnosis. But positive results on the blood work is highly indicative of celiac disease in any case. I don't know about the other conditions you mention.
  20. While being underweight and having diarrhea are classic symptoms of celiac disease, constipations and weight gain are also symptoms. You did not provide reference ranges for your test, but 47 is a high level in any case. If you are going to have the endoscopy, do not change your diet until after the procedure. A high reading on a test for antibodies...
  21. One study: a thesis by a candidate for a Master of Science. No sign of a peer review or follow up. Maybe there is something here, but I would have thought that if there was it would have been pursued in the two years since this thesis was submitted. I suppose Mr. Galdos was granted his MSc, but based on his work alone I have trouble drawing a wide-reaching...
  22. The blood tests in the celiac panel will not detect an allergy, no matter how intense. They measure the antibodies produced by the autoimmune reaction to gluten. Those antibodies have a limited life span, and will only be found if you are eating gluten on a regular basis. An allergic reaction to corn (or anything else) will not affect those antibodies...
  23. 'Tis so. You must have at least 501 posts to be able to do this. The moon is full and bright. Where is Canadian Karen when we need her? And, no, the smart Alec answer "Bowmanville" isn't gonna cut it.
  24. The IgA is equivocal, but the IgG is a strong positive.
  25. Opinions on this vary widely. But here is my own take. Anything that can get into my mouth is a concern. When I wash my hair in the shower, runoff gets on my face and lips. Traces can then find their way into my mouth. If I rinse thoroughly after washing, no trace of the soap should remain. Lotions will remain on the hands. When you eat food...
