ARCHIVED Antibodies Dropping Far More Slowly At Nine Months gluten-free
StephanieL replied to KCG91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Scops ever 3 months seems pretty aggressive esp. when it hasn't been a year yet! I have heard that even at 18 months things aren't necessarily going to be WNL yet. I'm sure each Dr. has their own ideas though on what constitutes normal but I've heard 12 months minimum! -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Servers Who Don't Think Celiac Is Real
StephanieL replied to ChelseaS's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes yes yes to the calling and researching ahead! If you call, be sure it isn't at a busy time! I try for between 2-3 in the afternoon to catch between lunch and dinner! I have to say that there are some places that are AMAZING! I emailed Legal Seafood to ask if they could accommodate my DS who has a list of food allergies on top of Celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Servers Who Don't Think Celiac Is Real
StephanieL replied to ChelseaS's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If they insist without asking the kitchen/mamager-leave. It is not worth it. There are some places that are better than others but there are also some servers who are better prepared than others! -
This is what I was thinking too. Inhaled steroids are at a MUCH lower concentration for sure. Our Dr. said a 5 day course of oral steroids was about equal to a YEAR on inhaled. They are more targeted and though they would enter the blood stream it wouldn't be in very large doses at all. I would call your Dr. for clarification. If they don't know...

ARCHIVED Antibodies Dropping Far More Slowly At Nine Months gluten-free
StephanieL replied to KCG91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My DS has been gluten-free for 4 years now and we still haven't gotten to normal. We did explore thyroid issues (he's got that too) and there was another big drop after that but we are still struggling. It was a huge 40 pt. drop in the first 6 months then just a few pts. here and there since. -
ARCHIVED Carry-On Dinner While Flying?
StephanieL replied to christianmom247's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I know good protein sources are important but I would love for you to also consider those with life threatening allergies to nuts/peanuts too. We all know how hard it is to find gluten-free snacks sometimes and it can be a real pain for sure. It can be immediately life threatening to those with nut allergies. (Yes, other allergies can be potentially life... -
ARCHIVED Communion Bread
StephanieL replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Across, If you are Catholic, the cup the priest blesses also has a bit of host put into it so there is defiantly gluten in it. They often have side cups though that do not have host pieces in it. If you arem"t Catholic, disregard -
ARCHIVED One Child Celiac, The Other Not
StephanieL replied to beth01's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have 1 confirmed kid with Celiac and one who is not, one more who we haven't introduced gluten to yet. My middle tried gluten to be sure there wasn't any immediate reaction and then has been allowed to eat it out of the house (at school who provided snack and when we go out to eat). After her first year of preschool with daily snacks we tested her before... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Huge Issue?
StephanieL replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many people have no clue the Dr's are testing for Celiac. Many times it will be done when there are vitamin deficiencies, bone density issue or other AI issues. The gene test doesn't mean you have Celiac so it isn't really useful unless trying to rule OUT Celiac. Does everyone NEED to be sedated, no but MOST do. The procedure we went through... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Huge Issue?
StephanieL replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may not think there is a right and a wrong but in reality, there is. There are diagnostic criteria that SHOULD be followed for a list of reasons. One the the most important reasons is that for some people, an official dx is the only way they will be compliant. There are also other things (bone density, potential vitamin deficiencies, family member testing... -
ARCHIVED Developing Food Allergies After Being Gluten Free
StephanieL replied to sweetsailing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you looked into Oral Allergy Syndrome? Have you been eating a lot of fa fruit lately? That's often an OAS trigger. -
ARCHIVED Who's Allergic To Brown Rice?
StephanieL replied to Celiacgirl1's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Vegans don't eat ANY animal products. These tests don't have any peer reviewed, scientific backing form anywhere. IgG testing is pointless. Even traditional IgE allergy testing isn't all that accurate. This is even less so. Allergies are tested for with IgE testing. Those are the ones that can cause anaphylactic reactions. Those are allergies... -
1) It says MAY. Have you called to inquire? Or have a third party call if you don't want to "out" yourself. 2) Many times you will find that if you adhere to treatment, these issues are non issues because your Dr. will sign off on them. I wouldn't give up just yet.

ARCHIVED Frustrated With Co-Parent
StephanieL replied to Christina.V's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are going to reevaluate in 6 months for blood work, it can also be falsely negative if you take her off gluten. I would seriously consider a call to the Dr. to see if that is a wise choice. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Parties At Your House
StephanieL replied to veryami1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just want to point out that MOST people don't need to worry about things like shampoo/shaving cream as you aren't going to eat it and gluten isn't absorbed through the skin. For kids who are playing with it and then hands in the mouth and eyes is an issue, then perhaps they should be checked out. In general, it is not an issue. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Parties At Your House
StephanieL replied to veryami1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We keep a gluten-free house for the most party. We have also hosted several holiday parties that people bring things to, gluten and all. I keep all my DS's gluten-free food away from everything. I use ONLY serving pieces that are disposable. My plates are run though the dishwasher after being hand washed as well. The counters we have "regular" food on... -
ARCHIVED So Confused About Tests!
StephanieL replied to Quaylern's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There isn't a test for any sort of gluten intolerance that is considered accurate for diagnostic purposes. Based on the other testing, the tTG was well within the limits for the lab your Dr. used. -
ARCHIVED So Confused About Tests!
StephanieL replied to Quaylern's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Different labs use different test/testing levels. If your Dr. said 1-19 was the normal range, then 10 would be within that. The saliva test, who ordered that? -
ARCHIVED Need Help For My 5 Year Old Daughter. . .
StephanieL replied to CassidyMama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Intolerance testing isn't scientifically sound. It hasn't been peer reviewed nor approved which is why Dr's won't order the testing nor do the results hold much for them. Food is usually not the cause of eczema. If you think it is food related, I would keep a very detailed food log to try and see if there are any clues. -
ARCHIVED Organizing My Thoughts For The Doctor
StephanieL replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Any reaction that doesn't occur within 2 hours is not an allergy. There are other issues what can happen after that time frame (like FPIES or EE). An allergic reaction is typically 20 minutes to 2 hours after ingestion but it can happen faster. -
We had an organic exterminator out 2 years ago. She used heavy duty natural oils and sprayed in out trouble spots. Said it would get worse before it got better and after 2 days of seeing them popping up I haven't seen one since! Seriously I was skeptical and then amazed! DH didn't want to try it but even he's a convert! And the house smelled lovely with...

ARCHIVED Organizing My Thoughts For The Doctor
StephanieL replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You pay the Dr. If you want them tested, tell them that. You don't really own them an explanation at all. If they want a reason to test, tell them that all first level relatives should be tested. They aren't going to look up your test results to say "Oh but you aren't a confirmed dx." It's a bit of non-truth telling but would be the easiest way about it... -
From the LOOK of them, I think that the cookies, soft cereal like bars and granola is repackaged Enjoy Life but I do not KNOW that. I haven't opened them yet but they sure do look like it based on the ingredients.

ARCHIVED 18 Month Old With Chronic Diarrhea
StephanieL replied to brit16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Celiac is not the first think I would think of. With all those antibiotics, were you giving a pro biotic with? They can really really mess with a little one's system. I would be more inclined to thinking it was the aftermath of the antibiotics than any condition. Have you considered trying a course of probiotics before starting anything else? Also...
