  1. I don't know how it would work in coffee but years ago I used to make hot chocolate in the single packs (like Swiss Miss) and instead of adding water, I'd fill the cup with coffee. And it was good. I know the Open Original Shared Link from the King Arthur website has some cocoa powder in it but it also calls for chocolate or chocolate chips. I did use...
  2. I hope you are able to add it back in, too. Giving up cheese was much worse than giving up gluten. Last Jan. at 9-months gluten-free, I started to eat a tiny bit of hard cheeses (cheddar or parmesan) but I like lots of mozzarella on my pizza. ETA: I did buy Lactaid milk right away although I really don't use much milk.
  3. Normally for me, it's pork and sauerkraut. But since New Year's Day will be my youngest granddaughter's 13th birthday. I'll be going over there. While she had a gluteny cake last year, my DIL made gluten-free brownies for me, which my son actually prefers over regular brownies (even though he doesn't have celiac). And this year I can have ice cream! Woo...
  4. Welcome, Charlotte! You've just asked the million dollar question and one that all of us ask when we first go gluten-free. There really is no answer as to how long it will take. For me personally I felt better pretty quick but still had issues to deal with until this fall. Heck, I still don't know if I'm there yet but I assume I am still healing. Here...
  5. Are you intolerant of dairy, by any chance? A lot of us have to give it up at least temporarily. I craved cheese so badly and was happy when I was able to add it back...and my kind of pizza has lots of cheese.
  6. It may be a CYA statement the manufacturer has added to the label like so many do. But if you already ate two-thirds of it, have you been feeling ill? If not, I see no reason to throw it out unless you absolutely want to replace it with something else.
  7. It sure is a confusing world out there, isn't it? It if contains WHEAT, I'd definitely avoid it. Some people have a sensitivity to soy and avoid it like the plague, too. It's a judgment call on your part. Progresso is very good at labeling and have quite a few soups that are labeled gluten-free. It's a brand I trust. Their chicken and beef broths...
  8. I need to do the same thing as I have my Mom's old rolling pin. I tried to make a pie crust rolling it between two sheets of parchment paper but it didn't work well. And the pie crust wasn't very good...but that a whole other story.

ARCHIVED Am I Being Tested Right

Welcome! Yes, she is wrong. To have half a chance of getting a positive result, you need to be eating the equivalent of 3 to 4 pieces of bread a day for 3 months. Even then the blood tests may be negative as false negatives are quite common. To be gluten-free for a month may entirely throw off the results. When will you find out what those results are...
  10. Sorry, I'm not going to be of much help but want to welcome you to the forum, maridadi! I would think the "butterflies" would be very uncomfortable. Since you're drinking a lot of water in the evening, do you feel bloated? Hopefully someone will respond who's experienced those symptoms or can give you better insight.
  11. I'm so sorry, Marilyn. Losing a pet is losing a member of your family. And just thinking about that brings tears to my eyes.
  12. I'll preface this by saying I don't like polls as the multiple choice questions never include the right choice for me. FWIW, I was diagnosed with the celiac panel followed by the EGD/biopsy...both of which were positive.
  13. Welcome to the forum! False positives on the celiac panel would be exceedingly rare, if at all. I'd say he has it based on his blood work alone. Even if the biopsy would come in negative, damage is many times patchy and can be missed. I can't help you decipher the gene tests (have no clue what my genes are) and they are not diagnostic. Whatever you...
  14. It is difficult to decipher the ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products. And we may have a reaction to most anything even if it has nothing to do with gluten. Ingredients may change at any time.
  15. ...and a sense of humor, too, so that's good!
  16. Hannah is a beautiful girl! When my dog (golden retriever/yellow lab mix) was about a year old, she had chronic ear infections. The vet prescribed some ear meds, which didn't do a thing to clear it up. He finally did an ear culture and it turned out it was a yeast infection and prescribed Conofite Lotion (ear drops) and suggested I change her dog food...
  17. Yes, they have recently repackaged their Great Lash and I noticed that on the last one I bought. I have not noticed that it smears and I do like the washable kind, not the waterproof.
  18. Welcome to the forum! I don't use either of the products you mention although I do use some Cover Girl powder and Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. I'm basically using the same products I did before I went gluten-free and haven't had a problem with them. Now lipstick can be ingested so I threw out a good bit of it. Out of curiosity, what mascara are...
  19. I'd never take it. Period. My feeling is if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
  20. Bottom line is that we can react to most anything. I think cosmetics are the most difficult to decipher. Maybelline Great Lash is in a pink/green tube and places like Wally World have whole sections of Maybelline products. I've been using the kind that says BIG on the tube...has a different kind of brush. I need all the help I can get with my pale...
  21. Please note that you are replying to a very old post and things may have changed since 2006. I also have dry eyes and use Maybelline Great Lash Mascara without issue. I've worn it for years and never had a problem with it. That said, I guess just because I can use it successfully, you may not be able to. Please provide a credible source that says...
  22. Welcome, Christine! Unless you're really ill, I think I might be tempted to wait until after the holidays to go gluten-free. But that's just me. Personally I went gluten-free the day of my endoscopy and couldn't wait to feel better. You could then take this opportunity to get familiar with the diet...it's not that difficult if you stick to whole foods...
  23. I love the Glutino Sesame Pretzel Rings...but I don't buy them often. They are positively addicting.
  24. I don't think many of us get a lot of helpful information from our doctors. The most valuable help I've gotten is right here on the forum. And yeah, wine is gluten-free! So all is not lost. Welcome to the forum...just keep reading and asking those questions you may have.
  25. None of us want to be glutened...but we will recover. As long as you're careful in the foods you select, there may still be times you feel "off". I could never pinpoint what was bothering me and figure it just takes a long while to heal. And I still have issues occasionally even though I've been gluten-free since April, 2010, and have a good handle on...
