I don't have a grain mill but I think it might be very iffy. I know they're really expensive. If you want to keep it, I think I'd be tempted to clean it as thoroughly as possible and then run a pound or more of the cheapest white rice I could find through it. And then throw that white rice flour away. Still iffy but might work depending on how sensitive...

This is from the Open Original Shared Link Or you can contact them from their link if you want to ask any further questions Question: Do your products contain gluten? Answer: None of our single ingredient spices and herbs contain gluten. In addition, all of our extracts, including Pure Vanilla, are gluten-free. Some of our products do contain gluten...

ARCHIVED Do All Celiacs Have To Worry About Cross Contamination?
sa1937 replied to eborzecki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Definitely yes...I am more concerned with CC than getting outright glutened. To qualify this I will add that I live alone, have a gluten-free kitchen (as much as that's possible), wash my hands frequently, etc. My main concern would be eating something a friend or relative made as I really can't expect them to understand celiac and CC as we all do. -
ARCHIVED Cookie Cutters
sa1937 replied to samie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Personally I'd keep them but would probably give them a good scrubbing with a toothbrush then put them through the dishwasher. But really, it's a personal decision. -
ARCHIVED Soft Lips By Mentholatum
sa1937 replied to Almendra's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't answer your question but Blistex Medicated Lip Balm in the blue-green tube and Neosporin Lip Health are safe. Then again, we can have sensitivies to most anything so what I can use, others may not be able to. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Cosmetics
sa1937 replied to GFLindsey's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I definitely agree with you...it's a personal decision. And I'm cheap, too. I used to be a product snob and would now rather buy gluten-free flours! For hand cream or lotion, CeraVe is gluten-free and is available at Wally World, as well as drug stores. That's a product that definitely needs to be gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Cosmetics
sa1937 replied to GFLindsey's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've used products from Neutrogena, Revlon, L'Oreal and Maybelline without issue. Since I don't ingest them nor do I have DH, I've had no problems using them. I think personal care products are generally more difficult to verify the gluten-free status. Most companies give a standard CYA response. Edit: I should qualify that to say that obviously lipsticks... -
ARCHIVED Tamari gluten-free Soy Sauce
sa1937 replied to Lilypad517's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like San-J tamari sauce (the wheat-free version, obviously) and had no trouble switching from my regular soy sauce. I do believe it is stronger so I use less of it. I have yet to find the new gluten-free Kikkomann soy sauce around here. -
ARCHIVED Cooking In Microwave And Cross Contamination
sa1937 replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would think the condensation is steam but something like lasagne could also splash as it's getting zapped...but whenever I heat up anything in my microwave, I cover it. I've used everything from wax paper, plastic wrap, a paper towel or a plastic cover that fits over a dinner plate (depends on what I'm heating up). I got some plastic plate covers at the... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed, Looking For Hope/help
sa1937 replied to lesquee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome, Erin! I think you just need to be patient, difficult as it is when we want to feel well instantly. We didn't get this way overnight and it's going to take awhile to heal. I think it's just too soon to assume you may be reacting to all those other things. It is good that you gave up dairy right away...you may be able to introduce it again... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Biopsy - Test For Cancer?
sa1937 replied to granolagal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not sure what all they test for. My GI took 6 biopsies and one was tested for h. Pylori (thankfully negative) and then celiac (thankfully positive...so at least I knew what was wrong with me). Now if I had visible damage or other suspected problems, perhaps he'd have tested for more or taken more biopsies. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed Today. A Little Lost
sa1937 replied to BriannaP's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome, Brianna! While we have no idea what intolerances we have or may develop for dairy products, I did start using Lactaid milk when I was first diagnosed. The Lactaid pills seemed to do nothing for me. But more than milk, I also gave up cheese at first...missed it far more than I did anything with gluten. Since that time I find I can have cheese... -
ARCHIVED Does Popcorn Bother Anyone Else?
sa1937 replied to Omma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have problems with popcorn, too, and it used to be my favorite snack. I pop my own in the microwave (plain ol' popcorn) and use light olive oil on it. I can't put my finger on why it bothers me. It's certainly not gluten. The only thing I can think of is that it might be too high fiber or I may possibly have a problem with some corn products. No... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I've used this recipe for making PB cookies but only used one egg. Easy peasy and very good...like an emergency PB cookie recipe. -

ARCHIVED What Could've Made Me Feel So Bad?
sa1937 replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't blame you for not ditching old kitchen equipment yet if you don't know if you have celiac or a gluten intolerance or something else. But if you plan to get tested, you really do need to stay on a full gluten diet. That said, our bodies can be pretty wonky at first and we can have a very difficult time trying to pin down our reactions. And we... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumbs
sa1937 replied to misskatycat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What if you were to dredge them in a bland gluten-free all-purpose flour, dip them in milk of your choice (dairy or non-dairy) since you can't have eggs and then coat them in gluten-free bread crumbs? I think I'd brown them on one side only and then flip them over and put them in a greased glass baking dish to finish baking in the oven. Dang, now I'm... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumbs
sa1937 replied to misskatycat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well, it depends. Do you want toasted dry bread crumbs or just fresh bread crumbs? If you want dry bread crumbs, it might be easier to just toast the pieces of bread first. I would think what would work for gluteny bread would also work for gluten-free bread. What do you want to use the crumbs for? -

What about the waffle iron? Was it used for regular gluteny waffles in the past? -
ARCHIVED Favorite Flour Blend?
sa1937 replied to AMom2010's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
While it's not a chocolate sheet cake, my gluten-eating friends really like this Open Original Shared Link and have all asked me for the recipe. -
ARCHIVED Shiloh Farms Flours?
sa1937 replied to BrooklynFamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree with the previous posters. Tapioca flour is tapioca flour. I would be curious why that particular blogger feels it's necessary that it's brand specific and she highly recommends it. Do they advertise on her blog? Just curious. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumbs
sa1937 replied to misskatycat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No clue here but if he can eat eggs from the farm, I'd sure keep buying them rather than store bought. They'd also be a lot fresher. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Crumbs
sa1937 replied to misskatycat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow! I'd certainly hate to have to give up either chocolate or caffeine (as I'm sitting here having my first cup of coffee). I usually do dry bread crumbs using up misc. scraps of bread...slices or the heels of loaves of bread. If I make dry bread crumbs, I'll put them in a pan in the oven first to dry them out and slightly toast them. You can break...
