  1. I just bought some and don't see any offending ingredients. How wonderful that you'll have a gluten-free Christmas party!
  2. I think most anything processed that we buy could be subject to cross-contamination. If you are not comfortable buying prepared pizza sauce, you could always make your own. I understand my son-in-law makes a killer pasta sauce...his own secret recipe, I think. Classico red and white sauces are gluten free. Open Original Shared Link Supposedly...
  3. Samie, I would not use xanthan gum or you'll get a gloppy, slimy mess. Last time I made gravy I made a roux using pan drippings (you could use butter if you don't have drippings) and sweet rice flour. You could probably use a different gluten-free flour or blend. Or simply thicken your gravy with cornstarch. Dissolve the cornstarch in a bit of water...
  4. Well, isn't that strange! I've reported this so hopefully Peter can fix it. I don't have that kind of power.
  5. Welcome! I use Blistex Medicated Lip Balm (in the blue-green tube) and I also have Neosporin Lip Health.
  6. It was probably posted in the wrong section of the forum and moved to here (the one for products).
  7. Welcome, Lucy! You might want to also use the google button on the top right of your screen. Search for cheap meals or budget meals and you'll find a lot of posts on inexpensive meals. Also search for what do you eat for breakfast. There are several threads for it. If you avoid buying processed foods, gluten-free eating doesn't have to be expensive....
  8. Personally I'd use it. But if you are concerned, you could always call the company.
  9. I think a lot of pie fillings are made using modified food starch as a thickener. The ingredients on the can should be the most up-to-date. Are there any other ingredients that would make you suspicious that the pie filling you have is not gluten-free? I just checked a can of the Food Lion apple pie filling in my pantry and it also says modified food starch...
  10. You have a smart doctor!!! In spite of the fact that you may have a negative biopsy, he can still test you for other things. My doctor was also ready to diagnose me after a high positive celiac panel. I did stay on gluten until I had the endoscopy because I knew my adult daughter had a problem with gluten so I felt I should go the full route hoping I...
  11. Welcome back! So glad you had a wonderful time. We've missed you!
  12. I'm positively drooling, ciamarie!!!
  13. Heather Anne, people can react to just about anything and everything!!! It does not necessarily have anything to do with McCormick's, Spice Islands, Swanson's or Progresso. And just because your dietician said it, doesn't necessarily make it true. I've used McCormick's herbs and spices forever and have not reacted to them. Specifically what McCormick...
  14. Heather Anne, have you ever considered eliminating all processed foods and going to a very simple whole foods diet to see if you feel better? Chicken broth is very easy to make yourself (especially if you have a crockpot) and you would know exactly what's in it. I made some good turkey broth before Thanksgiving...only turkey parts, water and salt....
  15. Personally I wouldn't be able to make it without a stand mixer but that doesn't mean you wouldn't. I made exactly one loaf of yeast bread with a hand mixer shortly after going gluten-free and it was just about impossible to get it mixed properly. And then I baked a brick. It didn't take long for me to realize that I needed to either buy a KitchenAid...
  16. In the case of Quaker Oats, the risk of cross-contamination is just too great so you should give them up. Think of crop rotation (planted in a field that formerly had wheat), harvesting, transportation, processing and they may be unsafe even before the manufacturing process begins. So you really do need to give them up right away. A certain percentage...
  17. I also use Restasis but only at bedtime. I also have over-the-counter eye drops that I use as needed although recently my eyes don't seem quite as dry. Maybe because the cold weather hasn't hit in force yet.
  18. I also saw that recently at Wal-Mart...not sure it was Contadina but it was definitely tomato paste and had wheat listed in the ingredients. Needless to say, I put it back and chose another brand.
  19. I use Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix all the time and do not have a problem with it. You might want to check the list of Open Original Shared Link to see if you have issues with any of them. It does have milk in it.
  20. Glad to know that, Karen, as I have a big fat jar of it!
  21. Possibly your body is just wonky? Or you really are sick? When I was first diagnosed (well even later than that), I never could figure out why I had good days or bad days. Looking back on it now, I'd like to think I was just healing and it's going to take time. Just a thought...how do you do with other dairy products? I gave them up for awhile, including...
  22. I've never given up coffee and feel fine. My daughter, also celiac, is hypothyroid and also has never given up coffee. I question your doctor's theory that your body can't tell the difference between coffee and gluten. Since you are newly diagnosed, you might not tolerate coffee well and your tummy might just be too sensitive. You might want to give...
  23. Thanksgiving was wonderful! It was at my son's in-laws and while they made a gluteny stuffed turkey, my DIL also fixed a turkey breast for me. I couldn't eat stuffing (too lazy to make some just for me) or green bean casserole so brought a serving of green beans for myself. We also had sweet potatoes, cranberry relish (yum!) and coleslaw. I made mashed...
  24. Early on I also bought one Amy's pizza. It was terrible! My celiac daughter also tried one. Same response. Not only that, it was grossly over-priced. After I felt comfortable eating cheese again, I started making my own and have never looked back. We have no local pizza places around here offering gluten-free pizza although I think Uno's in a larger...
  25. Progresso and Kitchen Basics chicken broths are also gluten-free. I don't have either on hand right now so don't know if they contain soy.
