  1. I waited until I was 9 months gluten-free to test oatmeal and am glad I can eat it even though I don't have it very often. It used to be a breakfast staple for me. Not sure what you can substitute for oats in recipes...I immediately think of quinoa flakes or flour but don't know if it would work or if you can tolerate it. I haven't made any recipes...
  2. There must be some type of ingredient in it that's getting you as they are gluten-free. I do buy Carl Buddig lunchmeats and have no problem with them...I like the individual size packages, which contain just the right amount for a sandwich.

    ARCHIVED Iodine

My Diamond Crystal Fine Sea Salt says that it does not contain iodide.
  4. Oatmeal (BRM old-fashioned gluten-free oats)...and maybe another banana-nut muffin.
  5. A very similar recipe appeared in Better Homes & Gardens magazine way back in the 70's and I remember making it when my kids were little. And we all liked it. Thanks for refreshing my memory. I see no reason it would not freeze well but that was way before microwaves so it wouldn't have been as easy to reheat the leftovers as it is today.
  6. Yes, you are! But after being so terribly ill for so long, you deserve to pig out. Your dinner sounds magnificant!!! I really don't want to come and live with you because you are farther north than I am. And I hate winter here!!!
  7. I ended up ordering the Oxo Good Grips rolling pin. I've never used a French rolling pin either...but I just love being let loose in a Williams-Sonoma store. I could get lost for hours.
  8. You'll be pleasantly surprised to find they are not very expensive. I have several and especially like the Hamilton Beach Stay or Go, which is available in both 4 qt. or 6 qt. sizes. I have both and it's especially nice that the lid has a gasket and clips to lock it on so it's easy to take somewhere (if that's something you need) so the contents don't slosh...
  9. No breakfast for me yet but I'm going to have scrambled eggs and banana-nut muffins (I made two loaves of banana bread yesterday to take to my son and DIL and one for my son's in-laws...made with Pamelas Baking & Pancake Mix). I had too much batter for the loaves of bread and made muffins with the surplus. Yum!
  10. I agree with Richard...I'd probably eat it unless it specifically states it contains any gluten ingredients. I really don't buy the Great Value brands of of products though. I think Wal-Mart has come out with a lot of products that say that...a CYA statement.
  11. The only eye makeup I can think of that would need a special remover would be waterproof mascara. Can you just switch to one that's washable so you don't need to use that eye makeup remover?
  12. Curlyqueen, I think your body is telling you something that your doctors have been unable to. And eating gluten-free will not affect the results of any other testing you might have to rule out other conditions. Wishing you good health eating gluten-free!
  13. I also use Suave shampoo and conditioner...it's about as inexpensive as you can get and is readily available at grocery stores, drug stores and Wal-Mart...many times on sale for around a dollar or so for a bottle.
  14. Welcome, CarpeDiem and Tammy! At first it is rather overwhelming to be faced with these dietary challenges but pretty soon you'll get a good handle on the foods we can eat, that it'll become so much easier (almost automatic). I remember well that first trip to the grocery store that took forever. But I found if I stuck to shopping the outer rim of...
  15. Glad it turned out so well for you, burdee. What flours/starches are in the recipe? When I was first diagnosed, I avoided pizza as I was never able to find Daiya cheese around here. Luckily I am now able to use regular mozzarella without issue. Last night I did make two smaller crusts and stuck one prebaked in the freezer when I want a quick pizza...
  16. I'm glad I listened to Irish Heart, too, when she suggested I take Culturelle (Digestive Health). It has made such a significant difference in the way I feel. I pay $18.52 for a 30-day supply at my local Wally World. My only regret is that I didn't start taking it earlier as I was still having issues at 18-months gluten-free. I hope it works as well for...
  17. Pizza tonight for me, too! I use Jules' recipe for the crust. Anxious to hear how yours turns out, burdee...
  18. Who among us has not baked a few bricks!
  19. Very simple for me tonight, too: Chips and dip and (at least) two glass of wine.
  20. I wonder how many people you've said could come and live with you! Edit: I think we hijacked this thread. Hopefully the OP has gotten some good ideas of what to cook.
  21. I can't imagine having to live with neighbors like that...makes me thankful that I live in a development with good and caring neighbors. While I have no idea how expensive it would be in Canada, I think I might look into having a security system installed for the house and alarm systems for your vehicles. The security system for the house can probably...
  22. She'll probably at least make me keep all the dirty dishes washed while she cooks up a storm.
  23. I doubt I'd be able to handle it.
  24. Be prepared to work hard...I'm sure you're a whole lot younger than I am. But we'll eat well!
