ARCHIVED Question About Progresso Soup
sa1937 replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe the Progresso Chicken & Wild Rice used to carry the gluten-free label but no longer does. I have no idea why they took it off that list except they no longer feel comfortable labeling it gluten-free. Wild rice should not be a problem. Do you have a local Wal-Mart? They have a good many Progresso soups but not all, of course. While it... -

ARCHIVED What's Worse During The 1St Year: Fasting Or Overeating?
sa1937 replied to Finally-45's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've never fasted so can't answer your question about it. But, have you ever thought perhaps you should eat smaller meals more frequently? There's nothing that says we have to eat 3 square meals a day. ARCHIVED Peptide Based Immunotherapy
sa1937 replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Alice, I have to agree with lynnelise. There just isn't any magic bullet for celiac. A lot of us wish it was that easy but since celiac is autoimmune, it's just not possible. The best we can do is stick strictly to a gluten-free diet so we are able to heal. Are there any particular foods you're craving that we can help you with as far as recipes are... -
ARCHIVED Non-Food Items Your Baby Or Child Needs To Avoid
sa1937 replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just curious...how old is this list? I think it has some inaccuracies. As far as I know Chapstick is safe as is Blistex Medicated Lip Balm (in the blue-green tube), which I've used for years. Gluten in envelope glue is a myth, not that it's very tasty and many people choose not to lick envelopes but it's not because of gluten.. I've never heard... -
My daughter uses Pinterest to keep track of recipe links. Don't know if she uses it for anything else as I haven't looked. Other than that, I don't know anything else about it. I'm probably still living in the dark ages.

I use Blistex Medicated Lip Balm (in the blue-green tube). Have used it for years and have no problem with it. -
Welcome to the forum, Ray! I live in South Central, PA, but not in Carlisle. Giant Foods has a store in Carlisle that should be an easy place for you to find gluten-free foods. Open Original Shared Link There's also a Wegmans in Mechanicsburg, which isn't terribly far from Carlisle. Open Original Shared Link

I'm Caucasian - half Norwegian and half Danish. I think my late mother (Danish) had undiagnosed celiac. She was one of the youngest of 7 children, now all deceased, so it would be interesting to know if others on that side of the family had celiac. I have no clue as to my dad's side of the family (Norwegian). My daughter, also celiac, is half Norwegian...

ARCHIVED Bread Storage Question
sa1937 replied to kb27's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Personally I store it in the freezer by putting two slices in a cheap fold-over sandwich bag and then into a larger freezer bag. But then I live alone and know that it wouldn't keep well otherwise. I suspect there are a lot of preservatives in store bought bread but with gluten-free bread I buy here, it's only available frozen. -
I'm blonde as is my daughter, who also has celiac.

ARCHIVED I Flunked The 6 Month Follow-Up Blood Test - Help!
sa1937 replied to Newbee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was 9 months gluten-free, my tTG was 10 with >8 being positive. But my EMA was negative (was positive at diagnosis) and IGG was negative as well. I was rather bummed since I also live alone and am very careful. My GI explained that we don't know what the original >100 really was as the lab didn't specify....398 or 1,000??? He wasn't at all... -

sa1937 replied to whodathaut's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the forum! I agree with Lisa. The only way you can be 100% gluten-free is to eat a simple whole foods diet and eliminate all processed foods. That said, I do eat Blue Diamond Nut Thins and don't have a problem with them (although others might). -
My son-in-law even makes gluten-free pizza as my daughter is also celiac. She says it's even better than the best gluten-free pizza they've had in Denver...and Denver is a gluten-free haven.

ARCHIVED Your Favorite Blueberry Muffin Recipe?
sa1937 replied to researchmomma's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No you are NOT stupid...and age-wise, I have you beat by a long shot!!! BTW, I've also made her pumpkin bread recipe but skip the crumble-nut topping as it's impossible to cut the bread. But it might be good on muffin-top muffins. -

Personally I wouldn't touch anything with defatted wheat germ or oat flour. You don't need to try and get rid of one problem and then gluten yourself with a new med. -
ARCHIVED I'm Done With Amy's
sa1937 replied to Piccolo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Please note that you are replying to an almost 5-year old thread and some info may no longer be accurate (I didn't go back and read the whole thing). Since you're fairly new to gluten-free eating, your best bet will be foods you prepare yourself but then I am not fond of processed foods in general. -
Loch, welcome to the forum! You definitely need to give up your Little Caesars pizza. Why don't you start making your own? It'll be so much better, not to mention safe, and it's really not that difficult. It just takes a little practice. Plus you can choose whatever toppings you like. Check out The Pizza Crust Thread to find lots of recipes. You could...
