  1. If you like bacon, how about Bacon Jam?
  2. I'm not much of a gardener except for flowers, a tomato plant (need to wait until mid-May to plant) and a few herbs. My rosemary stayed green during our very strange PA winter (it normally dies); chives are perennial as is my oregano, which are up and thriving. I'll also plant some basil, cilantro and dill but it's too early yet and then see what else jumps...
  3. A gluten-free diet can be healthy or unhealthy...it all depends on what we eat. Think fresh fruits, veggies, meats, etc. Very unhealthy if it's replaced with gluten-free junk foods. So your doctor is wrong!!! And gluten-free can be expensive...or not. It's all a matter of choices. If your grandson gets better eating gluten-free, hopefully Mom will...
  4. Welcome, Marini! We're glad to have you here, too! It sounds like you found a good doctor! I did have the older celiac panel and it was off-the-chart positive. In contrast my adult daughter had the newer DGP panel and it was also positive (almost the same readings as mine). Neither of us know what genes we have as we were never tested. I hope you...
  5. I just use an inexpensive blender and it works fine. Unless you have some real ambitions for using it a lot, I think a food processor would be overkill.
  6. It's entirely possible it could be CC. If not, it certainly has a lot of artificial ingredients in it including soy, various gums, dairy, etc. Have you used it before without any reaction? For some reason I have never liked any fat-free dressings. Open Original Shared Link INGREDIENTS: WATER, CORN SYRUP, WHEY (MILK), DISTILLED VINEGAR, CULTURED...
  7. Perhaps you could put part of the dough in a smaller pan and then make a few buns? I use a spring-loaded ice cream scoop and then flatten the dough slightly to make buns, let it rise and then bake for a lesser amount of time, of course.
  8. Welcome, Kristen! What a thoughtful roommate you will be!!! If you have no problem with gluten, you should be able to go back and forth between it and gluten-free with no problem. And if you check some of the recipe threads on this forum, you'll know we are not exactly deprived. A gluten-free diet can be very healthy with lots of fruits, veggies, meats...
  9. I am the wrong person to ask!!! But I can relate to your experience but figured you were the pro! I just pulled up Ginger Lemon Girl's blog and the bread does look dense...a problem I also have and it's flat on top, too. The 9x4x4" USA pan from King Arthur is nice and I do get a higher loaf with it but never get "oven spring" no matter what I try. ...
  10. You're already here, Dani!
  11. Are you looking for a hot casserole...something that could be taken in a crockpot? I was thinking of something like Spanish rice, which would be tomato-based with no dairy in it.
  12. Ore-Ida has a lot of potato products that are gluten-free including Tater Tots. I would suspect CC in the cafeteria. Open Original Shared Link
  13. I bet there's a way to make it dairy free. A short time ago I saw Daiya "cheese" in Giant Foods...it is non-dairy and is supposed to melt. And I would think a non-dairy milk could be substituted. I did eliminate cheese right after diagnosis and it was a whole lot harder giving it up than gluten so I hear you on the cravings.

    ARCHIVED "Don

Coffee is not something I'd give up just because *someone* thinks I should. I think we need to take some of the statements these people make with a grain of salt.
  15. I've made a few things that were totally inedible!!!
  16. How about making your own? You will then have total control of what goes into it.
  17. Welcome to the forum, Greg! Look at the date at the top of your response...it says it was posted Posted Yesterday, 07:38 PM (that's my time, which is EDT). All posts have dates on them. Hope this helps.
  18. Some day you will thank your lucky stars that you look young!!! When my daughter was 40, she occasionally got carded at a liquor store! I think that's a supreme compliment!!!
  19. Well said, Lisa! We are quick to blame but have to take responsibility when we go to a fast food restaurant (or any restaurant for that matter) and know there's a chance we may get glutened either because of lack of knowledge on the part of employees or unintentional CC. Unless someone lives with celiac, how can we expect them to know as much as we do and...
  20. I don't avoid soy lecithin and as far as I know, I don't have any problem with it. While I am well aware that some people have serious problems with soy, I don't buy products based on soy like tofu or soy flour as I figure I just don't need them.
  21. I really have no advice for you but when I had my endoscopy/biopsy two years ago, I was also diagnosed with gastritis, which is another word for inflammation, which I could see on the pretty colored pictures I came home with. It's actually pretty common with celiac. I was not prescribed anything for it and figure it probably went away after I started...
  22. Coffee is not something I worry about either but I buy regular coffee (not flavored), which I brew myself.
  23. Some time ago I bought some of the Equate facial cleansing towelettes and don't see any ingredients that would concern me as far as gluten is concerned. Only problem is that I don't like them very much. I agree that it does look like they contain a whole bunch of chemicals but then don't most make-up removers, shampoos, conditioners, etc.
  24. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long to get your lab test results. I've not made scones nor have I ever had a digestive biscuit, but there are a whole lot of gluten-free recipes for just about anything. Hopefully you like to cook and bake as it's a whole lot cheaper!
