ARCHIVED New To Gluten Free Kitchen
sa1937 replied to Ashlynn6's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't think you'll have any problems with glass as it cleans well. In fact I kept all old my glass baking dishes, Pyrex measuring cups and CorningWare as it, too, is easy to get clean. If a storage container doesn't have a lid, you could use plastic wrap or aluminum foil to cover it. I also use Tupperware or plastic storage containers with plastic lids... -

I was debating between asparagus and fresh green beans...I figured I should use the more perishable asparagus first. And it looks like another beautiful day here on the East coast! -
Welcome, Ashlynn! A two-week gluten challenge is clearly not long enough to even hope that you'd get a positive biopsy if you'd been gluten-free for three months. I think you already have your answer with a positive response to your gluten-free diet. That said, there's no way I'd pay $800 out of pocket for any test. But then I'm cheap and if insurance...

ARCHIVED Tell Me About Your Repeat Blood Test
sa1937 replied to 1974girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your best bet is personally asking for copies of any lab reports. Call first and then make arrangements to pick them up. I wouldn't necessarily expect the dr. to call. Some just aren't very good at that. -
ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?

Glad we were able to give you a few ideas to further explore. If you feel comfortable posting where she lives, someone might come up with some good ideas, too. -

ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?
sa1937 replied to beachbirdie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is sad that she couldn't be closer to you. I didn't mean to imply the soup I had wasn't good...it's just that I am capable and prefer homemade. You've gotten some good suggestions and hope they help you. I like the idea of finding someone to shop for her...maybe even a volunteer. Have you checked with her local Area Agency on the Aging? Maybe they... -

I made meat loaf, mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. It was such a beautiful day here and I was hungry for comfort food. -
ARCHIVED Tell Me About Your Repeat Blood Test
sa1937 replied to 1974girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Actually you do not have a late diagnosis. Many people are diagnosed at a much later age. In comparison, I am ancient! I have an appointment with my GI soon and he has ordered some follow-up celiac tests including the tTG and EMA. Thus far I have not been scoped after I had my initial scope two years ago. In your case I would be concerned about... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination ?
sa1937 replied to 49erlady's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter kept her 20+ year-old KA mixer. I only had a KA hand-held mixer and kept it also but it was only lightly used. I also found it did a lousy job on gluten-free breads so I then bought my KA stand mixer after I was gluten-free. -

ARCHIVED Replace High Chair (And Other Things)?
sa1937 replied to SPJandE's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry I can't give you any advice on the high chair...is it wood, plastic or metal? Wood could be refinished. I guess I mention wood as I had a wooden high chair for my kids (many years ago). My general rule of thumb was that if I could get something clean, I kept it. If not, out it went. I did replace cutting boards, wooden spoons, colanders and bought... -
Welcome, Claudia! While I can't give you any insight as to a raw foods diet, it's quite common for people to still have symptoms after only being gluten-free for a month. Some (but not all) also go through withdrawal. If you had a lot of damage, I think what you're experiencing is probably very normal. And then some find they develop intolerances...

ARCHIVED Post Endoscopy, Awaiting Results And Confused
sa1937 replied to archaeo in FL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Really, if all your celiac testing is done, you can go gluten-free right now. Why wait? And if the dr. wants to do more diagnostic testing down the road, a gluten-free diet isn't going to interfere with other tests. I think we've all heard "a little bit isn't going to hurt you...after all, so-and-so did". So that's a time to educate and hope they listen... -
ARCHIVED Daughter positive
sa1937 replied to scstampin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum! I know celiac in children is oft times difficult to test and come up positive. But if one child has tested positive, the others need to be tested, too. It would be very uncommon, if at all, that there's a false positive on a celiac panel (false negatives are quite common). If one sibling or parent tests positive, the others have... -
ARCHIVED Post Endoscopy, Awaiting Results And Confused
sa1937 replied to archaeo in FL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum! When I had my endoscopy/biopsy, I also had gastritis and duodenitis, which is just other words for inflammation. My tTG was also >100 with >8 being positive although my doctor ordered the complete celiac panel, not just a single test. Depending on how many biopsies the dr. took, hopefully they'll be revealing. It's possible... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
sa1937 replied to christianmom247's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! As a starter you might like to read this helpful info that Irish Heart has posted. http://www.celiac.co...ewbie-info-101/ If you are going to limit yourself to products certified gluten-free, you will have a limited diet. Certain companies are very good about listing ingredients on the label and will not hide barley (think malt... -

ARCHIVED Ttg Igg Test Results

My celiac panel was done by Quest and it indicated a tTG IGA Ab >100 with >8 being positive. I am not IGA deficient. -

I do use Hershey's cocoa powder. Ghirardelli also makes one (I swear I've seen it at my local Wal-Mart). -
ARCHIVED Mail-Order Gluten Free Foods?
sa1937 replied to beachbirdie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What a caring daughter you are! It must be difficult to be so far away from your Mom and have to rely on others to care for her. The only Gluten-Free Cafe item I've eaten was a veggie-noodle soup, which I bought at Wal-Mart. Not bad for something in a can (I guess I just like homemade soup so much better). It's made by Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED I Used gluten-free Flour, Why Am I Still Feeling Icky?
sa1937 replied to hopeonthemove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You might want to also pick up a bag of Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix. It makes good pancakes, waffles, muffins and I love the banana bread recipe that's on the website. -
ARCHIVED I Used gluten-free Flour, Why Am I Still Feeling Icky?
sa1937 replied to hopeonthemove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Actually Pamela's and gluten-free Bisquick are baking mixes, not true gluten-free flours (just to clarify).
