  1. It's too bad that you can't drive as I'm sure Colorado Springs would have a lot of options for you. I haven't been to Denver since I was diagnosed so really can't tell you much more about it. If you could get to Whole Foods when you visit your Dad, you'd probably be in 7th heaven. But then the large supermarkets have a lot of options, too. I know my daughter...
  2. For most of us microwaves are not a problem as long as we cover our food. I always do that at home, too, as certain things can create quite a mess (think explosion).
  3. If dairy products are a problem for you, you might need to avoid them for now.
  4. I take Open Original Shared Link and it has worked well for me. My local Wal-Mart carrries it and so far that's the best price I've found. They have several products. The Digestive Health is both gluten-free and dairy-free.
  5. You might want to check this list for Open Original Shared Link which was updated this month.
  6. Welcome to the forum! I do buy Claussen Kosher dill pickles (the minis) and haven't had a problem with them. When you're new to eating gluten-free, most anything can bother you as our bodies can be pretty wonky at times. I do trust Kraft products as they are exceptionally good at labeling.
  7. ...and I haven't found the Pocono brand of cream of buckwheat. I was surprised to find the Wolff's Kasha at Wal-Mart of all places. Except for "normal" gluten-free foods like some Progresso soups, Chex cereals, etc., our Wal-Mart is just not very celiac friendly.
  8. Welcome to the forum! Since you're so new to being gluten-free, it's probably best to avoid most processed foods for the time being. I do occasionally eat a Hershey's bar or a Snickers without a problem. Of course cross-contamination is always a possibility, too, and you might want to also eliminate dairy for awhile. Hope you feel better soon.....
  9. My daughter, who also has celiac, lives in Denver and I know it's a gluten-free haven. How far are you from a larger city that has a Whole Foods or Safeway? I understand how overwhelming it is to be newly diagnosed. We were all there at one time but it does get much easier. In the meantime your best bet is to stick to whole foods like meats, fruits...
  10. I bought some Wolff's Kasha at my local Wal-Mart in the section with Jewish foods but I haven't tried them yet. They're marked gluten-free so I hope I don't react to them.
  11. Welcome, Kelly! Please note that this is a very old post and the original poster hasn't been on the forum for almost 6 years.
  12. I have a habit of covering my food in the microwave...as I don't want to clean up an explosion in mine either even though it is gluten-free.
  13. Jules Shepard had a link to this list on her FB page: Open Original Shared Link.
  14. I did take one bottle of Bluebonnet L-Glutamine (500 mg) and frankly couldn't tell if it made a difference or not. One thing that did help a lot was a probiotic, specifically Culturelle Digestive Health, which contains 10 billion Lactobacillus GG, which I can buy at my local Wal-Mart. I started taking it last fall when I was 18 months gluten-free as I...
  15. Welcome, Alissa! You do have a wonderful sister to be so thoughtful. You've already gotten some good advice from Marilyn and cyberprof. I would add that I like Dawn dishwashing detergent and SoftSoap at the sinks and in my shower...both are easy to find and are not expensive. I do wash my metal baking pans by hand as some of them can rust if they...
  16. Happy Birthday!!! Your post is an inspiration to so many who are struggling to regain good health!!! It's my son's birthday today, too...another groundhog.
  17. How about making a pumpkin soup?
  18. Brittany, while there are some soups that are okay, the absolute best ones are those you make yourself. Do you have a crockpot? If so, you could cut up ingredients the night before, stick them in the fridge and then put them in a crockpot in the morning and when you get home, you'll have a delicious gluten-free soup ready for you. And depending on what...
  19. My take on makeup and personal care products is very simple...if you feel it is causing you problems, by all means replace it. Just one less thing to worry about. I feel it's very difficult to understand the ingredients in those products. Personally I did not replace my makeup products except to throw out a lot of lipsticks and I'm doing just fine using...
  20. Sounds yummy! But I'm sure there are some of us who would like her to visit if she's willing to do the cooking!
  21. I agree with Karen. I've only used the gluten-free San-J Tamari sauce. Would love to try the orange sauce and peanut sauce as I've heard they're very good. Just haven't seen them around here (yet). I never use a recipe for stir-fries...I basically wing it depending on what's in my fridge at the time the mood strikes.
  22. Welcome, health nut! You'll be a valuable addition to the forum. When I was diagnosed, I declined to meet with a dietitian as I figured I probably knew more than she did. I know, rather pompous perhaps, but I lurked on the forum long enough to know that their advice was not always accurate.
  23. Brittany, you might want to check this recent thread for additional ideas: http://www.celiac.co...you-get-rid-of/
  24. I eat them without a problem...just had one last week. It's possible to react to almost anything especially if your newly gluten-free.
  25. Ummm...that might have helped! I think bread that has milk in it also toasts better than that which has water for the liquid.
