    ARCHIVED Envelopes?

    I wouldn't worry about it...read Peter's post above.
  2. I'd be tempted to wash them....maybe more than once? But since I don't wear aprons, I'm probably not the right person to comment.
  3. Then the above recipe would work as far as having the flour/starch you need. Do you have a stand mixer? I can't imagine making it without one.
  4. This one's pretty simple and only calls for white rice flour and tapioca flour. It's definitely not as nutritious as using whole grain flours. Open Original Shared Link What kinds of flours and starches do you have?
  5. Do you bake? If so, you can enjoy some of these things again - just not the gluteny versions and it's far less expensive than buying ready-made products. OK, I don't know about croissants. Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix can be used for really yummy muffins and I've made banana bread a number of times using her recipe. My gluten-eating friends can't...
  6. I'm no doctor, but I really question this. I mean, how can stress change or affect your positive antibodies for celiac? Were you eating gluten-free before your biopsy and if so, for how long? Did he take at least 6 biopsies? It's quite possible that damage was patchy or not severe and he could have biopsied areas that weren't damaged. By reintroducing...
  7. Takala, of course it's time to start playing with psyllium! lol And I need to do the same. I'd like to try Mrs. P's recipe as I bought both ivory teff and sweet potato flour from Barry Farms, as well as psyllium and guar gum. Thanks for converting the recipe to a smaller size so I don't have to. I think 4 cups of flour would definitely make a humongous...
  8. Some of the Post cereals have also been reformulated to eliminate malt. Specifically some, but not all, of the Pebbles cereals like Cocoa Pebbles for instance. Don't know if they have hit grocer's shelves yet or not. You'd have to read the labels to see if they have gluten-free on the box. Too bad Kelloggs is lagging behind by not reformulating their...
  9. I would not eat Cap'n Crunch because of oats for the reasons Dixiebell mentioned. Another ingredient to watch for in a lot of cereals is malt, which is usually made from barley and therefore is not safe. General Mills does have some gluten-free cereals available, namely Chex, which are marked gluten-free on the box (obviously not Wheat Chex).
  10. It would be very rare (if at all) to have a positive blood test and not have celiac. In this case, I would consider yourself as having celiac. Your GI should have taken at least six biopsies and even then, if damage is patchy, they may not have shown anything. By going gluten-free, you may find your answer in the way you feel. I understand your not...
  11. Last night I fixed a crockpot beef roast, mashed potatoes and gravy and fresh green beans. Knowing as I'm feeling very lazy right now, tonight it's leftovers of the same. Whatever roast is left after dinner tonight is going to be made into veggie beef soup to add to my stash of ready-to-eat homemade foods that I like to keep in my freezer.
  12. I haven't seen Rice Guy post for quite awhile but he certainly is a baking guru! And I've completely forgotten about adding psyllium to bread recipes even though I bought some after reading this thread. Thanks for the reminder! I need to try it again. I have made Buckwheat Bread, which I think is really good. http://www.celiac.co...uckwheat-bread/...
  13. "Clean-out-the-fridge" stir-fry and rice. Actually I had bought groceries yesterday and wanted to use up some dribs and drabs of things that I had in my fridge and freezer. Stir-fry consisted of pork, mushrooms, yellow squash, broccoli and a partial bag of frozen green, yellow, red and orange peppers and onions . Plus gluten-free soy sauce and other seasonings...
  14. Do you think you're getting enough protein to feel fully satisfied?
  15. I actually bought my instant read digital thermometer at Lowe's...in the grilling section (brand is Taylor and it was about $15). It has never seen use at my grill but it works well for testing the temp of both the liquid I use for bread as well as the baked bread. I think you should be able to find one in lots of stores, possibly even discount stores and...
  16. I've used this recipe for German Pancakes and they turned out fine. I did use more butter than the recipes called for. Open Original Shared Link
  17. I've used gluten-free Bisquick for pancakes and they're good. I haven't seen any recipes for pancakes using their yellow cake mix. ETA: The recipes for pancakes is on the box of gluten-free Bisquick.
  18. I also like Progresso
  19. I don't have a bread machine but I do use an instant-read thermometer to check the doneness of the breads I bake in my oven. I also find that for me at least, baking at a slightly lower temperature works better as gluten-free breads tend to come out very crusty (tenting them with aluminum foil after baking for awhile is suggested with some recipes, too....
  20. Food is just food! Maybe it depends on whether one lives to eat or eats to live...
  21. I'm glad to know flowers are safe! Take away my wheat but don't take away my flowers!!!
  22. McCormick's vanilla is gluten-free. I'm sure a lot of vanilla is but check the labels to be sure...
  23. Both Herb-Ox chicken and beef bouillon granules are gluten-free. And if you want broth, I usually use Progresso .
  24. Just curious...how long should it normally take for tTG numbers to go down to zero assuming one is diligent in being gluten free? Is there any info available as a guideline?
