  1. I mean no offense, but why would you consider putting anything other than pure maple syrup on pancakes??? It's naturally gluten-free and delicious!
  2. Real french bread and crusty country loaves are what I miss... plus real chocolate chip cookies w/ lots of walnuts. I'm used to gluten-free bread now and it's good, but it's not real french bread. And I've never had a chocolate chip cookie that can remotely compare to the real thing... so I don't bake 'em anymore. I'd love a good old Big Mac too.
  3. Wow... I'm all the way up at the top of Marion county! Wish you guys were closer! You sure have better shopping options down there, I'm betting!!
  4. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that no 2 celiacs have the same symptoms... so your symptoms could be celiac related. The frequent urination is often experienced by people w/ diabetes... along with extreme thirst. It sounds like a good work up is needed. The biopsy to confirm celiac diseasae is done by endoscopy. Don't be afraid of it......
  5. My daughter had a similar experience when she went back to the GI who diagnosed her celiac disease... she's since developed MANY food intolerances and pelvic pain and other symptoms. She'd been scouring the internet for answers and arrived at her doc's appt. w/ information she'd found. Her doctor said, "Oh great... you've been doing research. Why don't YOU...
  6. I was gluten-free for about a year when I couldn't take baking awesome bread for others... and scarfed down a huge slice of homamade challah bread, slathered it w/ butter ... WITH NO REPURCUSSIONS!! I had visions of scheduling a monthly "cheat" ... pizza one month and french bread the next. I never got to test the theory. The next time I accidentally...
  7. I gained a good bit of weight after going gluten-free. I finally had to cut back on a lot of the breads/baked goods. Many have a higher glycemic index and more calories because of the flours we use (rice!). I lost 20 lbs. in about 4-5 months by eating mostly lean proteins and lots of fruits and veggies... I cut way back on the carbs.

    ARCHIVED Lymphoma

I'm so sorry! I have no experience but wanted to wish you the best! Please keep us updated.
  9. Mine came out of nowhere at age 48... no family history, no trauma or trigger that I know of... just BAM! About 5 years later my middle kid was diagnosed at about age 25. My youngest daughter was diagnosed last year (and is having a real struggle w/ it... lots of food intolerances and abdominal/pelvic floor muscle involvement) and oldest daughter was...
  10. I'd never trust a prepared meal from an airline anyhow! Have lunchbox... will travel... w/ GOOD gluten-free food!!
  11. That was the one! The label on the bottle said Gluten free, dairy free, etc. etc...
  12. Celiac daughter bought CVS multivitamins today... buy one-get one free! The label said Gluten free, dairy free and lots of other "free" stuff... gluten being the only important one to daughter. On an impulse, she went to their website to find a completely different ingredients, including GLUTEN... not maybe gluten in something... but GLUTEN as an ingredient...
  13. Gluten free chili served INSIDE small bags of Fritos is a camp hit!
  14. I've never used any sort of flour in my cornbread recipe... from my girlfriend's old granny in Alabama: Preheat oven to 400º. Put a few tablespoons oil in a small cast iron skillet and put it in the oven to preheat w/ the oven. Mix: 1 cup cornmeal 1 cup milk or buttermilk 1 egg 1 tablespoon baking powder about 1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar When oven ...
  15. The only thing I ever used Bisquick for was to make dumplings in beef stew. I'll buy it once a year for that treat... no matter what it costs! But I feel your pain... the foods we have to buy are always pricier!!
  16. When I started reading your story, I thought to myself, "I'll bet she's around 12." How well I remember that age w/ my oldest. She was once hysterical and yelling at me and I said, "What's the MATTER w/ you??" And she fell into my arms sobbing, "I DON'T KNOWWWWWWWWWW." It's a FUN age. All that said... I've often thought that being diagnosed at a very early...
  17. I'll admit I've said it many times. People have expressed their sympathy, etc. and I've said, "Ya know what? With all the health issues people can have... this is NOTHING. I've just had to learn how to cook differently, that's all." Cause I've not found it so difficult. We didn't eat a lot of processed food even before my celiac diagnosis and I've always...
  18. This is my nightmare... that I'll be in the hospital and not "with it" enough to make sure I'm being served food that's completely gluten free. Or worse... old and living in a nursing home and served a gluten-laced meal and the staff getting MAD at me for having continued uncontrollable diarrhea!! I can only hope that gluten free eating will become...
  19. I found them recently while visiting PA. I was reaching for the bag of Glutino pretzels and tried the Snyder's instead. I thought they were DELICIOUS!! Glutino's have a tiny bit of aftertaste to me. The Snyder's were so crispy w/ no aftertaste. Of course, since returning home, I'm not finding them anywhere!!
  20. has not set their status

  21. Welcome Adam! Good forums and incredibly knowledgable people here for when you have questions. I know there have been several threads about dealing w/ celiac disease in college!
  22. I've been to many CFAs and never had a problem! I have fries and their Ranch dressing to dip in. It's my only fast food pleasure... and rare, as there are none where we live!
  23. Here's a really good recipe I've tried. I ended up rolling it out rather than getting it to go thru my hand crank machine, but I think that if I rolled it out a little first, it would work going thru the machine. It was remarkably easy to work with and delicious! Open Original Shared Link
  24. I got a neat 2-waffle belgian maker at WalMart for like $14... I make extra waffles and freeze 'em so I can heat 'em up in the toaster. YUM

    ARCHIVED Rice?

Rice is naturally gluten free and lots of people drink rice milk when dairy becomes a problem. That said... my daughter can tolerate white rice while brown rice makes her ill! There's also almond milk out there. I'm totally with you on the difficulty in giving up dairy as opposed to gluten. Being gluten free is way easier, I think... because we can...
