  1. I'm not lovin' it so much. I'm resigned, but not lovin' that I can't have my favorite food... my homemade breads... ever again. My "big D" wasn't so bad and I didn't feel crappy. I didn't get to lose ONE POUND without trying desperately ... rather, I've GAINED weight I didn't need!! So, now I'm on Weight Watchers, not eating the fav foods I CAN have because...
  2. Sounds awesome! My fav soup!! Thanks for posting!!
  3. Ooooh... I almost forgot. One of the BEST things I learned on here was that the macaroni in Kraft Mac and Cheese isn't gluten-free, BUT THE CHEESE POWDER IS!!! My DD (diagnosed last year) was the happiest to learn that!! You can buy it in a shakey can like Parmesan cheese in some groceries!
  4. I learned that I was NOT gluten-free cause I thought it was okay to pick my croutons off the salad and maybe blow away any crumbs. Folks here set me straight right quick!! I've sent so many people here, it's not even funny!! This place is the best!!
  5. I was hardly sick so I felt so sad but mostly MAD. My fav thing on earth to make was bread... kneading the dough, smelling it baking... and now I make a bread mix. My daughter was diagnosed last summer and was really depressed. She loved to bake as well... breads, cakes, cookies. Now, less than a year later, she's just discovering that baking is simply...
  6. So who on earth would dream up this lovely disease rather than enjoying all the stuff we can no longer eat?? Not me!!
  7. That's such good news to hear, floridanative! My daughter was a manager of a Macaroni Grill in PA and used to cook up gluten-free pasta for a little girl about once a week. I've been tempted but have never tried to bring my own pasta to a restaurant, but perhaps an advance phone call might open up doors for me!!
  8. I seem to only have Celiac... altho a year or so after diagnosis, my ANA blood level came back just high enough that my doc had me tested for Lupus. No symptoms or anything... just a tiny raised blood level that I get checked every year. Other than that... nothing but Celiac for me! (knocking on wood over here!!)
  9. Oh, were it ONLY true that gluten could be killed by heat??? I went to a mexican place and asked the kid behind the counter if he could tell me how the rice was made, because I couldn't eat anything that contained wheat or flour or certain starches. He said, "I dunno... would you like to taste it?" HUH???
  10. There's an airline that still serves a meal at all??? I always fly w/ my own food.
  11. Manna from Anna fan here!! She even has a dairy free bread mix. I make a loaf and scoop some of the batter/dough in to English Muffin rounds, so I have an awesome sandwich loaf and several perfect rolls for burgers, etc.
  12. PB on rice cakes for me! Great for on-the-go breakfast!
  13. Oooh... I'm gonna try those gluten-free matzoh balls. It's a comfort food I miss terribly! gluten-free matzoh would be the next best treat!!!
  14. Manna from Anna has a dairy free bread mix. You could make sandwiches... even send along a little container of egg salad or whatever she likes that's not lunch meat and she can make her own sammy. Or is taking a lunch box/bag w/ a small icy thing not cool??
  15. I am certain I'm Anna's greatest fan, but I've never tried the yeast free bread... only the yeast bread. Sorry I can't help.

    ARCHIVED Hidden Gluten

It was finding out that some brands of sour cream contain modified food starch that made me realize that I have to read EVERY SINGLE LABEL, EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
  17. I didn't eat the chips and salsa, as the waiter told me (and I suspected cause they were so light) the chips were fried FLOUR tortillas! I had the shrimp fajitas... w/ corn tortillas, chopped tomato, avocado slices, black beans... and flan for dessert. It was yummy!!
  18. Chevy's is a chain, like Chili's or South of the Border. The funny part is that the waiter told me that my card, in spanish, would be useless because no one in the kitchen SPOKE spanish!! So much for authenticity!! But he showed the cooks the english side of the card and came back and told me exactly what I could and could not have. I didn't have one...
  19. Both parents are Scottish/Irish.
  20. I live about 25 minutes from Quakertown! Check out Jules This Crust Pizza in Doylestown (Open Original Shared Link). They have awesome gluten-free pizza!!
  21. Where in Atlantic City is a PF Changs?? I'm so excited!!
  22. I can so empathize. I was a bread baker too. It's still the one food I'd sell my soul to be able to eat again! I tried probably 4 different yeast bread recipes before I finally gave up. I use Manna from Anna mixes now and love them. She's got a banana bread mix too that's awesome.
  23. That molten lava that rushes from my small intestine thru my large intestine as it fights its way out of me CAN'T be good for any part of me, I'm thinkin'!! We're talking alien acid that melts the space ship floor!!
  24. what an awesome experience!! I'll put them on my list for a visit!!
  25. Wait... the teriyaki marinader has no gluten? Is there soy sauce in it? Every teriyaki sauce I've ever seen has soy sauce in it. Suppose it's gluten-free soy sauce??
