  1. I am constantly amazed at all the place I find it! And, interestingly enough... I often DON'T find it in the cheap store brand of things like pasta sauce or BBQ sauce and DO find it in the higher priced brand names!!
  2. I've made this before but lost the recipe. This looks similar! Needless to say... use wheat-free soy sauce! GENERAL TSAO'S CHICKEN 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs 1/2 tsp. salt 1 egg 3/4 c. + 1 tbsp. cornstarch, divided use 1 c. + 3 tbsp. vegetable oil, divided use 2 tbsp. chopped green onion 1 tbsp. fresh minced ginger ...
  3. I avoid it because I've read that it's sort of NON-food... just a chemical sugar that NONE of us need. It's not that hard to avoid as I'm reading the labels anyhow.
  4. I have middle ear issues that make it hard for me to do things like grocery shop or visit museums. I carry chewable Bonine with me at all times and know to take it before things that I know will make me dizzy. I've not had continuous vertigo tho. It must be awful!!
  5. I've always been a lunch packer too. Before gluten-free, I used to love to buy a long baguette and slice it in thirds... and make sammies for a few days. Now I make a loaf of Manna from Anna bread on the weekend and slice it up into slices and freeze 'em in zip locs. I toast 'em and make a yummy ham and cheese or turkey sammie for work. If I don't make the...
  6. I was gonna jump in and help here, but I'll have to tell you that I've sworn off Oprah after that ridiculous show where she her nose was just about scraping the ceiling while she was telling author James Frey ("A Million Little Pieces") how "embarrassed and disappointed" she was. Ugh... she was so obnoxious. I'm not watching her anymore.
  7. Nope... nothing on the menu... just rice pudding. I can see the rationale... I imagine that orzo or whatever pasta they use holds up better in the creamy sauce... but HALLOOOO... don't call it rice when it's NOT.
  8. This was ME not long ago.... I really thought I was gluten-free when I was doing things like taking croutons off my salad and blowing away the crumbs. The fine folks here set me straight, thank goodness!!
  9. I went to a local restaurant for dinner last night and our waiter was awesome. I began to explain my dietary issues and he interrupted with "Oh... do you have Celiac? One of our waitresses does too!" He was most accommodating ... asked the chef about the crust on the fish, asked if anything included flour, etc. So... when my rice pudding for dessert was placed...
  10. A new shopping center in Warrington, PA, is going to have a Wegmans and a PF Changs!! I'm beside myself. I've only been to a PF Changs once as the closest one to me is about 1 1/4 hours away!! I can't wait!!
  11. I work right around the corner from Jules. The owner is super nice (Jules is his older daughter. Hers and Bella's photos are on the wall of the restaurant). I talked to him for a while before ordering the pear, brie, rosemary, and chopped almond gluten-free pizza to find out how he cooks them away from the regular pizzas. Can we say YUMMM??? As I expected...
  12. There oughta be a law against that... that's why I now read EVERY label, EVERY SINGLE TIME!!
  13. So have we ascertained that no one ships gluten-free beer? Our Whole Foods won't carry it I'm sure, as I live in PA with the dumbest liquor laws on the books!! I might have to make a road trip to NYC!!
  14. I've found that the longer I'm gluten-free, the more sensitive I've become. I'm reading EVERY label EVERY SINGLE TIME anymore!!
  15. No rashes here... but I'm experiencing similar "attacks" (all intestinal) after years of being fine. I think I've gotten quite careless and have been accidentally glutened several times in the past month. For example... I JUST learned that many of the light sour creams have modified food starch... I've NEVER even looked at the label, cause how would wheat...
  16. I have it and my middle daughter of 3 has it. I'm fairly certain my sister and possibly my brother have it but neither will be tested!!
  17. I'd kill for a gluten-free beer. I miss beer as much as I miss bread.
  18. I've always been an average weight... always wanting to lose about 20 lbs (and doing it several times). I didn't get the unexplained weight loss symptom of celiac, and AFTER going gluten-free, I packed on about 30 lbs!! At the moment I'm doing Weight Watchers on my own to try and lose about 40-50 lbs. I'm about 6 down... many more to go!!
  19. Just ordered mine!!
  20. I read that there is a new pizza joint in NYC with gluten-free pizza AND gluetn-free beer!! I've thought about coming all the way up (2 hours) just for that!!
  21. I'd never heard of it till I was diagnosed! My symptoms started in the summer after spending weekends boating in the Delaware River. My doc thought I'd picked up some ugly bug or something and put me thru a course of Flagyl while we waited for my blood work to come back. My daughter's fiance started having mild gut symptoms that progressed over the...
  22. Is he having tubes put into his ears? The procedure does only take 5 minutes, but they'll put him out and will want him to wake up a little before he goes home. My daughter had some cereal before she left, so just bring some crackers or a light snack (similar to toast or crackers) and some juice you know he'll like.
  23. Sour cream! Yep... my newly diagnosed daughter pointed out to me that the sour cream I'd been enjoying had modified food starch! You could have knocked me over with a feather!! Regular, full fat, doesn't contain MFS, but some brands of the lite sour cream do... go figure!!
  24. Yea, I've gotten the "Can't you just eat a LITTLE??" Yea, I answered... if I want MOLTEN ACID shooting out my butt. When I explained to some nice older ladies at the bake sale table that I couldn't eat any of their wares... and told them why, they gasped and said, "Oh my... WHAT do you eat??" I looked down at myself (I didn't GET the unexplained weight...
  25. Also... how did you find the bread on day 2 or 3? I've made some homemade recipes and find they end up tasting and acting like the commercial brands out there... crumbly and not very good tasting. I'm still a Manna from Anna fan. Haven't found one bread better!!
