  1. 1) run 2) spin yarn (more soothing than knitting) 3) green-space time 4) yoga (when I can't run, for weather, weird work schedules, etc) 5) watching full seasons of predictable TV series (Law and Order). this is probably my worst coping mechanism.
  2. I have asked employees to get a me a new cup if it's been handled (like when they have a queue of cups). They do. I'm also not a coffee drinker, and use them as an both an excuse to get out of the office (why is it acceptable to need a coffee run but not a ten minute walk..?) and as an afternoon snack as I get hot soymilk based sugar laden drinks that are...
  3. baked beans cucumber pickled kohlrabi quick raspberry compote
  4. ooo, i want to see HP. How was it?
  5. No McD, but I'm a regular at Starbuck's. I've generally had no problem with any coffeeshops showing me labels for hot chocolate, chai, soy milk, tea, and I can read the labels on granola bars and such myself. English is the only barrier that's been a problem, in airports, weirdly enough. My local coffeeshop now carries plastic wrapped egg and cheese...
  6. Canning jars are great for storing leftovers. Are you cooking for one? Frozen vegetables (in bags) are a huge convience and work very well for portioning out appropriate amounts. Learn to dress up your leftovers and focus on the same ingredients in multiple meals. For example: Meal one = tuna steak with baked sweet potato and green beans ...
  7. Mrs. Dash's is incredibly popular among the older set. How low sodium? Are you talking restricted to 600/800/1500 mg/day? A little extra butter can go a long way, too, and may be okay for a couple of weeks. A pinch of sugar can also help. Neither of those are good long-term solutions, obviously, but they can help for a few days. Meats can be marinated...
  8. Multigrain Pilaf with Lentils Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese Steamed Spinach Microwave Fresh Raspberry-Blueberry Compote
  9. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Sadly, the ultrasound revealed what was likely an unexpected intestinal lymphoma meets hairball blockage; nothing had indicated that could be the problem so the ER vet was surprised. I ended up putting her down, as her overall geriatric/low bp despite fluids/jaundice status was not so great for surgery outcomes, and it...
  10. larabar soy chai stayed up late last night... and ate a bedtime snack, so didn't need much this morning.
  11. I've been there! I liked it, mostly because my northern relatives fed me junk food, but that was also where I learned to not take my mother to a museum and expect her to leave a room without reading aaalllll the words. Second grade, so it's been a while. And that is an adorable chicken, for the nth time.
  12. Anybody got any suggestions? Tuna is barely interesting, and only earns a mouthful. Mackerel, salmon treats, and chicken broth didn't even get interest. Chicken breast is currently cooking, so that's on the list. I think we're off to the vet er in the morning... as our vet can't do an ultrasound for two weeks. It feels absurd, but oh well.
  13. sweet potato waffles (day off)
  14. collards in garlic broth corn tortillas chocolate mousse with sweet peanut swirl after-dinner drink pending...?
  15. Taza is good, and no gluten around. I've bought the Schaffen-berger baking bars with no problems, but I don't remember if there was a shared facility statement on it.
  16. Actual food works too: PB, almond butter, hard boiled eggs, deli meat, tuna, etc for protein and then fruit/dairy/grains for carbs. Cold boiled potatoes a fav for me pre-run.
  17. ooo, no cell coverage. I'm headed north in search of no cell coverage. It's one of my missions in life. They'll have a great time. I hope!
  18. And then can I have them to chase the cats and groundhogs out of the garden? Pretty please?
  19. It sounds like you are either getting some gluten contamination-- work or something you eat but your son doens't maybe?-- or else you are having problems with another food. Dairy would be suspect #1. Take it out for a couple of weeks and see how you do. If that doens't help, some deeper thought might be needed to see if you're reacting to eggs, or soy...
  20. Whoa.... 'twould be a pheat phor aknee age. I grew my first batch of carrots! They actually grown! I've planted them so many times before but they had never grown into real full sixed carrot flavored carrots! (yes, 'tis worthy of all three "!" my life is that exciting.)
  21. Raw snow peas and carrots (I grew 'em... first year with true carrot success EVER!) Goat cheese mozzarella chocolate chips
  22. The UGA website is pretty awesome. There's also a book called Small Batch Preserving, which is a nice intro to techniques without requiring you to have 10 lbs of cucumbers or 3 bushels of strawberries. I can less to save money (just freeze blueberries and greens for that) but instead to make things I really like but aren't readily available. At home...
  23. Less than twice a week. I go out to one nice dinner a month (+/-), and then I find myself stuck between meetings or with no lunch once or twice a month, and then I get brunch with my knitting club once or twice a month. I also get a hot drink (chai, hot chocolate, tea, etc) away from home about once a week. The brunch is at a diner/pub place where I...
  24. Yes, and it's pretty fun if you like to write. I did one on wordpress.com, and others use blogger, or tumblr, or any of several other services. (If you click on the profiles, many people on the board including me have links to our blogs, so you can wander around and see what host might suit you.) You can pay more for upgrades, like being able to completely...
