  1. Poor kiddo. I vote for the walk-in clinic tomorrow. She may be dehydrated with bad diarrhea going so long. Don't let the directions from earlier keep you from bringing her in for care. You can't feed a kid who is refusing food so it's not as if you could follow the printout. Even if they think you maybe should have done something different, they will...
  2. Wow, that's scary. It seems like there is something really wrong with industrial "food". As I think about it, there are also chemicals in the water and air so it may be more than just food. But food is pretty important since we eat so much of it!
  3. I feel better about meat when I buy meat from animals that have been ethically raised. It's usually hormone-free and not treated with antibiotics too. It costs a little more but I feel much better about eating it. I don't know what we did to get so unlucky. I have autoimmune thyroid disease and now cognitive problems that I can't figure out. I guess...
  4. Aw geez. That sucks. I don't know what to say other than offering sympathy.
  5. Read the book and you will understand the soup. Ideally you do GAPS for a time, maybe a year or two, and heal yourself! Only GAPS intro is soup, soup, and more soup and that's only for as long as your body needs. It's up to you whether or not to do intro, and there are guidelines in the book.
  6. Yes, all of our digestive issues can be overwhelming! I know mostly giving up grains sounds like a big deal, but I'm actually really pleased to find something so simple that helps my asthma. I do find I tolerate a little white rice a couple times a week. I wouldn't worry about the lentils and legumes just yet. They are so botanically different from grains...
  7. You might have just won the prize for finding the stupidest GI ever! McDonald's? Seriously? I'm really glad to hear your son is doing better with his new doctor.
  8. My mom who has the fructose malabsorption reacts terribly to onions. They have a fructose polymer called fructans in them.
  9. Thanks for that link. I did get a second round of decent broth from some turkey bones I had earlier this month so it's certainly worth trying!
  10. I chose GAPS for myself. GAPS is supposed to be very healing.
  11. Aww. Sorry you got sick again. Shared lines food is tricky. The equipment is washed thoroughly between runs but the washing is sometimes less than perfect. I think there is always a small risk of gluten in a product produced on the same equipment as gluten foods, maybe even in one bottle and not another. Unfortunately folks with neuro symptoms on...
  12. Good point! I'm kind of like you. I crave refined sugar badly, eat too much, end up tired and woozy. I don't think I'm as sensitive because I'm fine with fruit, honey, dates, and other unrefined sugars in reasonable amounts. My mom has fructose malabsorption and gets pain and bloating from fructose. It's pretty funny because I'm reaching for honey for...
  13. I've never reacted to Scotch single malt.
  14. My upset stomach protein is egg drop soup, done in gluten-free broth of course. Bring a serving of broth to a boil and slowly add a beaten egg, stirring so that it breaks apart and cooks as you add it. Season with a little soy sauce and sesame oil. If fat is a problem with the gastroparesis, you can make it with two egg whites.
  15. Can you make ginger tea or have a piece of candied ginger to get away from the carbonation? It's worth a shot, right? I'm sorry to hear that the anorexia makes you afraid of Ensure. The 250 calories in a bottle are barely half a meal, right? I can sure understand not liking the taste, though the chocolate flavor is drinkable to me. I am just trying...
  16. That's hilarious! Definite score. Sweet potato chips are yummy.
  17. Oh, another dumb question because I don't know about gastroparesis. Can you have a drink like Ensure to get some calories? Ensure is gluten-free.
  18. I hardly know anything about gastroparesis so I typed "gastroparesis carbonation" into Google. This came up at the American College of Gastroenterology website. Open Original Shared Link "Symptoms of gastroparesis include bloating, nausea, early fullness while eating meals, heartburn, and epigastric pain. Ingestion of solid foods, high fiber foods such...
  19. If you can't eat sugar well, you really, really, really need to look into fructose malabsorption. Chicken and rice soup is very low fructose if you use white rice. So are most steamed veggies and salad greens. The Wikipedia article on fructose malaborption isn't too bad. Open Original Shared Link This site is by a woman with fructose malabsorption...
  20. I'm glad to have other folks to talk to on these diets. If it's the book with the yellow cover written by Natasha Campbell-McBride it's the GAPS book I'm talking about. I found it fascinating. Have you read it yet? GAPS is Dr. Campbell-McBride's version of SCD for gut healing. The only paleo book I have read is The Paleo Diet (Revised) by Loren...
  21. Did you have dairy with it? Butter or sour cream? I'm a little sensitive to nightshade veggies, including potatoes. I sure hope that isn't your issue.
  22. I think you should ask your endo if the T3 might help with your sleepy problem and weight gain. I don't know about thyroid and the blood sugar but getting on the right amount/type of thyroid might get you losing weight a little more easily, and that will certainly improve the blood sugar.
  23. Problem with not saying anything is that everyone ends up thinking the can't lick envelopes or drink tea because of imaginary gluten! The Internet is a very weird place. Little do they know that vitamin B12 manufactured during a full moon that has been put in the trunk of a hollow oak tree for six months and then homeopathically treated with the color...
  24. Hi, Heidi. I'm sorry to hear that you are still sick and so frustrated. I totally agree with Melissa to try cutting out dairy. The other thing that comes to mind is fructose malabsorption. You might look into that if cutting out dairy doesn't help.
  25. missy'smom knows a ton about diabetes and I don't. I'll let her make food suggestions. You don't have to worry about small amounts of soy for thyroid. What you don't want to do is make a habit of eating big amounts of soy like tofu. Organic soy sauce or a little soy in processed foods shouldn't be a problem. As for the books, remember they say it...
