  1. I'll be super-curious to hear if you get anything useful from the hair test. I'm even curious what the test is, since the website doesn't describe anything.
  2. You can try it but I think you'll feel crummy fasting for that long. Why don't you do something like GAPS intro diet? Soup from homemade broth with a little of the stewed meat and some cooked vegetables. It needs to be bone broth - the natural gelatin supposedly protects your stomach. Ginger tea, and a little something probiotic. It's very healing. Open...
  3. Well, that one is malarkey. I get digestive problems the day after I eat nightshades, particularly tomatoes. No joint issues at all. Did she suggest you just buy clean meat? There is USDA organic meat, you know. I'm not sure I think much of this nutritionist.
  4. Yes, it's really that easy. The coconut flour does want to lump up and it works best to sift it into wet ingredients a little at a time. I usually add a little baking powder to the recipes, though I would skip it on brownies. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I tried coconut flour muffins and they were good. No more hockey pucks for me! The...
  5. That's good news that you don't have a lot of autoimmunity. Be happy! All your problems will still likely go away off gluten, it just may be that you have strong gluten intolerance. Maybe you're latent celiac, maybe not. I don't think there is a clear answer for your questins becasue the tests are too limited. Being gluten-free will ensure that if...
  6. Can I answer from the other side? I'm pretty sure I am celiac but like you I figured it out on my own. I was never tested, except in childhood when I was already off wheat becasue it made my stomach hurt. (Celiac enough for ya?) I was told I didn't have celiac and my problems were "wheat allergy" even though I barely reacted on skin tests. I stick to the...
  7. I agree. Take reasonable care and follow up with your doctor for blood tests and you will be fine. It's the people who go undiagnosed for all their lives who get cancer.
  8. Oat gluten in 10-15% of celiacs, it's been published in the medical literature repeatedly. Possibly corn gluten and dairy. I've seen a few posters write that their GI doctors said they had seen villous flattening from dairy allergy. We have people on the board who have the reaction they associate with gluten to corn, but I don't know that anyone who is strongly...
  9. Wikipedia has pretty good info. Open Original Shared Link Don't worry though. Our risk of cancer drops to normal after about a year on the gluten-free diet. The enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma is pretty scary but it's usually only seen in people with advanced celiac disease who aren't on the diet.
  10. I also talked to Abbott on the phone not too long ago. They told me the same thing - that they do not use gluten ingredients but there is no testing of raw materials. Synthroid is basically a sugar pill, and nothing on the ingredient list would give me pause if I read them on a food label. I had no issues taking Synthroid. I think it's dumb that they...
  11. I'm getting ready to go to the one in Florida and it looks even better in California. Open Original Shared Link Oh, now I actually READ your post. Nope, no info about CC.
  12. I believe that one test test on that particular batch of soy sauce. It's hardly an adequate sample size to claim safety though. Notice that Kikkoman has developed a gluten-free soy sauce with rice instead of wheat, rather than labeling their normal soy sauce gluten-free. That suggests to me that Kikkoman didn't have confidence that every batch of their...
  13. Wow, that explains a lot for me. I had that honeymoon in my teens, with just a little GI trouble. All heck broke loose when I got a flu in my early 20s. Julieabove, If your IgG results helped you find your daughter's food intolerances than for YOU they are not nonsense. False positives are one of the big reasons IgG allergy testing is not popular among...
  14. Isn't the salt and MSG the whole point of commercial bouillon?
  15. OK, that's good. You are far enough north that radiation shouldn't be a problem. There are definitely some people in Fukushima prefecture who are ill and many have moved away. Since you're not near the reactors, I'm going to add my voice to those who are worried that you are malnourished on a vegan diet. Veganism does not work for everyone. Vegan diets...
  16. The only people who have been unwilling to listen or work with me have been nurse practitioners and physician assistants. I do whatever I can to avoid them. Doctors with an M.D. or D.O. tend to have a lot of respect for my level of training because they have some idea what Ph.D. training entails. (It's always funny to watch a doctor's eyes bug out when they...
  17. Wow, I had no idea! I plugged IgG allergy tests into Google Shopping on a whim and got a couple panels. This one is 88 foods for $219 Open Original Shared Link and 96 foods for $235. Open Original Shared Link It's expensive but not insane like the $2000 your naturopath charged.
  18. Perhaps because any idiot with a Blogger account can claim expertise? I found another case study for you. Open Original Shared Link
  19. That video you linked is made by someone who is trying to sell you $120 of very expensive water. He would like very much for you to believe it and buy his homeopathic "cure" for celiac disease. When it doesn't work he will tell you that you used it wrong. You can never eat gluten again. Period. Fasano's zonulin work suggests that underlying abnormalities...
  20. I've been reading a little about that too. If you type "polyglandular autoimmune syndrome" into Google, the first three results that come up are pretty good Medscape articles on the three different types. They answer most of your questions.
  21. I would not assume gluten-free oats are no longer a problem! That's the one grain that is most likely to be causing your problems. You can mention manufacturers on the board, just stick to your own experiences with them and try not to generalize. People forget that food reactions aren't necessarily gluten. "X made me sick" is fine. It helps us troubleshoot...
  22. Check what other grains are in the cereal too. You may get an idea of what to eliminate. You know the issues with oats, right? Maybe 10-15% of celiacs react to them as a gluten grain. Roda on the board can't eat anything from Bob's Red Mill because it's all CC'd with gluten-free oats.
  23. You're welcome. I would think if she has a repeat biopsy and things have healed, she is well and active, and shows no signs of nutritional deficiency or other diseases, she would be OK. I don't know for sure and I sure understand your worry. I read a lot of the peer-reviewed literature on celiac but I'm not a doctor.
  24. It is a lifestyle change but well worth it if gluten is the cause of your trouble. Feel free to ask us for help once you find out about testing and go gluten-free.
  25. I see you are eating a lot of Udi's. Not everyone can tolerate that much xanthan gum. Dairy was getting me and I thought it was hidden gluten for the longest time. I got sick after a party where I had wine, grapes, and cheese and blamed it on the wine, then on cracker crumb CC when challenged wine and it was OK. (Yes, I was in denial. I love cheese...
