  1. My c isn't that bad. I only figured out that it's related to sugar or too many grains recently and I'll get d as easily as c if I eat stuff that doesn't agree with me. I haven't noticed any appetite changes with it. I'll find I'm hungry if I don't get enough fatty food. I'll eat a big bowl of salad and want more food until I realize I should have some...
  2. Nothing is wrong with doing any of that. That's what we have to do to survive in a world that seems filled with nothing but wheat. I love the idea of bringing your husband to the doctor. It sounds sort of like he is in denial.
  3. So did you doctor make any diet recommendations based on your GTT? I was getting ultra-sleepy after eating white rice or potatoes. My blood sugar seems lots more stable eating GAPS, where I have lots of fats for energy and most of my carbs come from fruit. If I have grains or especially sugar I find I get c for a couple days.
  4. Udi's is getting easier to find. They have a store finder on their website. Open Original Shared Link You can mail order Rudi's or Udi's too. Among other places, Open Original Shared Link carries it. I've also gotten really nice fresh bread from the Bob's Red Mill mixes.
  5. I love the Progresso soups Kareng mentioned. It was my favorite brand before I went gluten-free.
  6. Paleo and GAPS are close kin. I read both the GAPS book and Cordain's paleo book. I'd highly recommend them, especially the GAPS book. It will really enlighten you about how your digestion works. Full GAPS is a little less restrictive than paleo, allowing dairy and a few specific legumes, but you do have to find time to make the broth and ferments. You...
  7. If it was my reaction to a 15-year old review article that set this off (which I suspected from the moment I saw the post), you might notice I apologized in the thread. I thought you had to crush the B12 and sprinkle it into your bra as powder?
  8. I feel better off grains in general. My asthma isn't as bothersome. I was eating a fair amount of corn before I went grain-free so I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the trouble.
  9. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only person eating all the time on paleo-ish. (As I sit here at my desk eating blueberries.) It seems like I'm constantly nibbling on something. I am doing GAPS diet in the hopes of controlling my thyroid autoimmunity and getting rid of some food sensitivities. I can't tolerate dairy so my food list is almost the same as paleo...
  10. Glad you all like the recipe. It took a little time for me to get used to GAPS, which is grain-free, starch-free, refined sugar-free. I don't tolerate dairy either so I'm pretty close to paleo. I read Cordain's book and I'd recommend it. I do still have sushi sometimes when I eat out and like you I have not given up a little dark chocolate. A girl...
  11. Personal experiences are very valuable but some people think their personal experiences should generalize to everyone. They can get pretty aggressive about it too. There is also a lot of misinformation out on the Internet. (Like the famous tea bag rumor.) Asking people to back up their facts and generalizations helps with those situations. Also, remember...
  12. TTG is a general autoimmune antibody that is seen most frequently in celiac but it can also appear in type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, and autoimmune hepatitis. Rarely TTG shows up in lupus but it's not diagnostic for it. I had to look up atypical ANCA and it looks like it can be positive...
  13. If you don't mind the drive UCSD has a celiac center. Open Original Shared Link
  14. Have you read the paleo book? Egg whites and chicken are not going to fill you up because they are mostly protein. Carbs or fats are fuel and without a lot of carbs you need fat. Nuts, olive oil, avocado, whole olives, seeds, or I make a low-carb coconut flour bread with eggs and coconut oil that's very filling. Here's the recipe I use. Open Original...
  15. What Meetoo said! Also, there are a growing number of doctors calling to relax the endoscopy requirement for people who have positive EMA or DGP tests and respond to the diet because the tests are so specific for celiac. A biopsy is useful because it lets your doctor see what's going on and establish a baseline. Plus as you saw, sometimes they catch...
  16. Addison's should not be too hard to rule out. I'll ask my acupuncturist about autonomic nervous system balancing for you next time I see her.
  17. Thanks. I'll give that a go next time I'm inspired to bake.
  18. We have a lot more free time to learn specifically about celiac. Your doctor has over 500 diseases to keep track of! Your son has the only positive test. Yes, your husband's panel is pretty thorough. Remember that it's kind of hard to get a positive celiac test. It's still possible to have issues with gluten, and even damage on endoscopy, with negative...
  19. Fooey. Their website is a little deceptive then. "All of our products marked with our gluten free symbol are produced in a dedicated facility and batch tested for gluten content." I guess it would be common sense that they aren't making some of that stuff. Duh. I sure hope they're testing. Otherwise I'm wasting money.
  20. There is quite a story around McDonald's. When the US government made allergen labeling mandatory, McDonald's had to disclose that the beef flavor they use very early in processing contains a little bit of hydrolyzed wheat protein (it's a source of MSG). There was a big stink because McDonald's had been marketing them as safe for people with celiac disease...
  21. Thanks so much. I'll have to figure out a sub for the potato starch because nightshades are not my friends right now.
  22. I'm glad the diet is helping! I spoke to my neuropsychiatrist friend on your behalf because your story made me sad. I met someone with severe OCD so I have seen how devastating it can be. You won't be surprised to hear that she snorted and said CBT and ERP don't work. (She is the one who introduced me to EFT.) She said that transient oxygen...
  23. Six months has been too soon for TTG to fall some folks on the board. Seems like I remember a thread this past month from someone who still had TTG after six months? We also had someone who was so gluten-sensitive he couldn't eat brands like Udi's and Glutino. The traces of gluten that inevitably get into grain products kept him from healing. I don...
  24. Well, you're sure in the right pace. You're either celiac or on your way there. Once you have your biopsy tomorrow you can start the diet and be on your way to feeling better. As shroomie said, TTG is autoimmune, so it means your body is attacking itself. DGP means the autoimmunity is from celiac disease. Total IgA just means your immune system is...
  25. I love my little Foreman grill. I got the smallest size. You can cook burgers with a little worchestshire sauce (Lea & Perrins is gluten-free), fish with a squeeze of lemon, or chicken marinated in Italian dressing. I like the veggies in the steamer bags to toss in the microwave and of course a crunchy salad. You should be able to follow a beef...
