ARCHIVED Surrender Dorothy!
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Upon further thought, could your PB have been tainted by someone else dipping a knife with crumbs in it? Make sure you have your own jar of peanut butter. All it takes is someone else spreading it on their toast and you have crumbs in the jar. THEN your PB is glutened unsafe no matter what kind it is. -
ARCHIVED Surrender Dorothy!
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If it's this one: Open Original Shared Link It lists hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed and rapeseed). Sugar is also the second ingredient. there's nothing gluten, dairy or soy based in this, but I would not eat it just because of the oil they used to make it (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils are bad for you, plus cottonseed oil is usually... -
ARCHIVED David Sunflower Kernals Vs. gluten-free Honey Nut Chex
GlutenFreeManna replied to StacyA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you sure you don't have a problem with dairy? Have you tried drinking straight milk to see what the results are? Often people try the gluten free cereals and have a gluten-like reaction that actually turns out to be a dairy reaction. You can develop this at anytime, but many people notice it after going gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Forum So Slow--Is It My Computer?
GlutenFreeManna replied to sue1234's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
It's working fine for me and my laptop is about five years old (practically ancient in the computer world ). You could try switching browsers if it keeps running slow. I'm using google chrome, but I like firefox too. -
ARCHIVED Incredible Edible Egg
GlutenFreeManna replied to Wheatfreedude's topic in Sports and Fitness
I have to agree with this! I used to be a vegetarian simply because I wasn't crazy about meat. Now I crave meat if I'm low on iron and it tastes better to me. Eggs too. I never liked eggs for breakfast much, but now I eat them at least 3 times a week. -
ARCHIVED Incredible Edible Egg
GlutenFreeManna replied to Wheatfreedude's topic in Sports and Fitness
This is good advice. I use hard boiled eggs as a portable meal/snack when I'm traveling. We drove halfway across the country a few months ago. I packed a cooler with hardboiled eggs, raw veggies (cleaned and cut), grilled chicken breasts, and salad (along with various non-perishable snacks like dried fruit and nuts). We ate some eggs for breakfast in... -
ARCHIVED Tactfully Telling Someone That They "just Don't Get It"
GlutenFreeManna replied to MommyStina's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Skylark pretty much covered the particulars. There is no such thing as "a mild celiac". However you can't make your SIL adhere to the diet if she doesn't want to hear about it. You gave her a bunch of literature and she still didn't understand. You asked her if she wanted your help and she didn't reply. The only thing I would do if I were you is next... -
ARCHIVED Lighthouse Buttermike Ranch Dressing
GlutenFreeManna replied to clummus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even though it says gluten free, Litehouse makes some products that DO contain gluten, including a Lite Ranch Dip Open Original Shared Link There might be CC issues. Or you might have developed a problem with one of the other ingredients in the dressing. Many of us pick up new food intolerances after going gluten free. -
ARCHIVED I've Got Friends In Gluteny Places
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your thread titles are always so funny Connie Too bad we can't just laugh at rude friends (well we can, but it's not really funny). Sorry your friends are so rude and clueless. I haven't encountered any rude friends yet, but I'm taking the route of least resistance so far. If I can't have any input in where it is and I know I can't eat safely... -
I have a similar history with dairy. When I was a baby, dairy made it difficult to breath. My mom was told by the doctor to limit my dairy intake, but that I would "grow out" it eventually. I remember consuming dairy products from middle school on to adulthood up until about my mid to late 20's with no real issues (I am now 30). Now if I drink milk or...

GlutenFreeManna replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing. Also I have that same casserole dish. I love it! -
ARCHIVED What's With Spelt?
GlutenFreeManna replied to puppymamma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry to disappoint you, but spelt has gluten. See the unsafe list here: /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ -
ARCHIVED Turning Over A New Spatula
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I make pretty much everything from scratch. I always make extra to eat the next day for lunch and my husband always takes leftovers to work the next day for his lunch. We have been doing this even before going gluten free because it is more frugal. Most of his coworkers eat out everyday but also complain they never have enough money. For easy recipes... -
ARCHIVED Bic Soleil Disposable Razors
GlutenFreeManna replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't use disposable razors either they always leave razor burn. I use a Gillette Mach 3 men's razor to shave my legs. It's much better quality than the women's razors I have tried and I can go a long time before having to change the blades. -
ARCHIVED Mexican Restaurants
GlutenFreeManna replied to kaitlyn77's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Looks good. I have done something similar before, only I can't tolerate a lot of cheese yet, so I have to go light on that or use goat cheese. -
ARCHIVED The Good, The Bad And The Sister.
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Connie, No one is judging you for struggling with being gluten free. Everyone has to make up their own mind to follow this way of eating or to be sick. The "sickness" manifests itself in many different ways. I'm sorry you are having trouble coming to terms with this. I hope you have at least one friend or family member supporting you in your desire... -
ARCHIVED Am I Really Putting Myself At Risk By Eating Out?
GlutenFreeManna replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All of life involves some risk. If you drive or ride in a car anywhere you risk getting in an accident. Does that mean you should never get in a car? No, it just means you are careful. You don't drive in really bad weather if you can help it, you don't drive the wrong way down a one way street, run red lights or speed excessively. Eating out at restaurants... -
ARCHIVED Flushable Wipes - Like Cottonelle, Scott, Etc.
GlutenFreeManna replied to G-FreeGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even if these wipes did have gluten, I would hope that your are washing your hands well after going to the bathroom. That would wash off any residual gluten from the wipes. I'm super sensitive and I make sure all my shampoos and soaps are gluten free, but I would not worry about these unless products with wheat make your skin break out in an allergic-type... -
ARCHIVED Hand Sanitizer
GlutenFreeManna replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I agree with Tina B. Also, make sure any hand sanitizer you use is gluten free. I read on here that Germ-X is, but I don't know about others. -
ARCHIVED One Simple Question
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get both types of symptoms now, but the neuro symptoms were MUCH, MUCH, MUCH WORSE than the GI symptoms. In fact the majority of my time suffering undiagnosed (about three years) I had only neuro symptoms. The one GI symptom I had was mild D after eating, but I do not have a gall bladder and my doctor told me that was common in individuals with their... -
ARCHIVED Scones From An All Purpose Mix
GlutenFreeManna replied to gfmolly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Me too! I tried Gluten Free Pantry brand scone and muffin mix to make some cranberry scones and they were terrible! The texture was all wrong, they fell apart easily and they were chalky/gritty tasting. So I was hoping someone would answer your question with a good recipe or mix. -
ARCHIVED Restaurants Vs. Grocery Stores
GlutenFreeManna replied to KevinG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When it comes to celiac disease, I don't think there are "safe" levels of gluten, period. I know that some governments regulate the amounts (in ppm) in products claiming to be "gluten free", but IMO any amount is too much. You are taking a chance every time you eat out. Why would you also take a chance at the grocery store where you have the choice to... -
ARCHIVED Plantain Flour
GlutenFreeManna replied to summerteeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ooh, that is great to hear that it made good dumplings. I have not found a good dumpling or biscuit and I can't find the gluten-free Biquick in my area yet. Did you just follow the Fufu recipe above and drop them into the chicken mixture or did you use a regular recipe and substitute the plantain flour? -
ARCHIVED Rice Cheese?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Roda! I swear I searched their site and didn't see that info.
