  1. Really? I had no idea about the celery. Sorry! Well my hubby called and told me to book a hotel. I found one and booked it for them for tonight. Hubby will call them and give them directions to the hotel as if they had planned on staying in one all along. He has spoken to them a few times and they seemed pretty intent on camping out on our floor tonight...
  2. Welcome to the board. Take a few deep breaths. Many people here have been through what you have and things have turned around for them. Celiac disease may be causing your depression and it could go away when you go gluten-free. This is not a death sentence. This is the begining of LIFE. You can STILL go out when you turn 21 and drink. There is gluten...
  3. Yes, you can get glutened! My husband always complied with my requests to brush his teeth before kissing me but he secretly doubted that it was really neccessary (thought I was going overboard a little bit). Before our house was completely gluten-free he was still allowed to eat Gluteny cereal in the morning for breakfast. He wasn't trying to test me or...
  4. Well I just got the latest on where they are. I did some figuring and I don't think they will be here until 7 or 8 at night. So my new plan is to just leave all the lights off and pretend to be asleep. All these boxes are bothering my allergies and I will need to take some Benedryl. I can sleep through pretty much anything when I take a couple benedryl...
  5. YES! Who wants to meet me there? I really did tell hubby that if they don't stay in a hotel I'M moving into one.
  6. They will pound on the door until the neighbors call the police I'm afraid! The neighbors are a bunch of older people that like their peace and quiet. We have assigned parking so even if they don't remmember what type of car I drive they will figure out I'm home. I may just have to let hubby meet them. Or maybe I will tell them (on the phone), "you must...
  7. I am freaking out!!! So I got busy packing more things up today. When I finally took a break and checked my cell phone I had 10 missed calls and 4 voice messages from my husband. He even tried sending me a facebook message--which is really funny because he never uses fb! He's at work and the IL's called to say they are on the way! <--- seriously...
  8. We're trying to use up everything in the fridge so tonight I had chicken marinaded in Asian chili sauce and cucumbers with roasted red pepper hummus. Hubby had leftover bison taco meat, carmelized onions and bell peppers in a bowl over rice with a broken up tortilla. I cooked up the rest of my boneless skinless chicken breasts in three ways--lemon pepper...
  9. There are only three restuarants that I have been able to eat safely at consistently (going out to eat maybe once every month or every other month at most). I've been at this for 1.5 years and tried just about all of the places with gluten-free menus in my area at least once. Most of them have been dismal failures and made me sick. I guess I'm more sensitive...
  10. Is your significant other gluten-free? Are they careful about kissing, hand washing, etc if they eat gluten outside of the house? for example: I have gotten sick from the car steering wheel after my husband ate fast food and then drove without washing his hands. Any pets? Any hobbies that could use gluten containing materials?
  11. Aparently the in-laws don't want YOU dropping in unannouced? I was thinking more like ebola or pneumonic plague.
  12. Unfortuantely (or maybe it is fortunate?) our friends may not even see them. They rented the trailer so it seems they will arrive sometime in the next day or two. Wed or Thursday? We get the key to the new place friday. Our friends are helping us (and we have a U-haul reserved) on Saturday. Best case scenario is that they show up friday. If they show...
  13. I think I might feign illness. The highly contagious kind. With lots of coughing everywhere.
  14. No good. I live on the coast. They would just be bringing a BARGE instead of a trailer. I'm afraid I'm stuck. My husband's mad at them but he won't send them to the dump after they drive 18 hours to get here. He has already warned them that he doesn't want the stuff and it will be tossed when they get here. He thinks they mean well but have a...
  15. I already asked about not giving them the new address and hubby stupidly gave it to them long before they said they were coming to see us. We've been married for five years and lived in 4 different places in those five years. Never once have they visited us. They are driving across 6 states to get here. We've decided to be as unco-operative with them...
  16. oh, he tried to tell them that. Several times. Some of these things they have tried to get us to TAKE in the past when we visited them and every. single. time. hubby told them to sell it or give it away-- that he didn't want it. It's like speaking to a brick wall. I'm beginning to think they want to give us this stuff JUST so they can have a reason to...
  17. Please tax my in-laws extra? They are at it again...here's the latest installment in my drama novel: So last week hubby had spoken to them and said it would be better if they came the week AFTER we moved. After a lot of pleading, they agreed and said they would change their plans. Well, they didn't. Tonight hubby gets a call from BIL. Hubby...
  18. I still need to find one. I was using one that said it was non-dairy but I could not verify if it was gluten free. It was making me feel off so I stopped using it. I need to get another one I guess and try again. I just really don't want to mess up my digestive system anymore. I've been trying to eat natural probiotics like coocnut milk kefir and pickles...
  19. Citric Acid can be derived from soy, but it is usually from fruit which may be why the person on the phone thought there was no possible hidden soy. Here's an article that may help you with a list of other hidden sources: Open Original Shared Link I would try the company again and ask them the source of their citric acid. Also for the purpose of...
  20. It really could be either one (another intolerance or cc). I try to avoid things processed on the same lines as gluten. Even if they clean it really well it just makes me uneasy. Soy is sneaky however too and can be hidden in things like mixed tocopherals, Vitamin E or soybean oil in the form of "vegetable broth" and does not have to be declared as containing...
  21. This is a good point. I would hope that gluten-free cereal makers would go to some trouble to make sure the grains were not contaminated in order to avoid lawsuits and such but since there are no industry standards or laws we really have no way of knowing what they do or don't do within the "gluten-free" factory. Even if they tell us the upmost care is...
  22. Oh, I did not realized that not all the Chex had mixed tocopherols or vitamin E (things that can be sourced from soy). I have only tried the Rice chex and Corn chex and don't eat them very often (maybe once every two months I feel like some cold cereal). Sorry for your frustration.
  23. I really think it is all relative. There isn't really a "normal" level of sensitivity but what you described are things I have experienced (the water bottle thing and stray crumbs in a non-gluten-free environment). I consider myself to be very sensitive but I know there are people MORE sensitive and LESS than I am. The thing is, with people you talked to...
