ARCHIVED Corn On The Cob
GlutenFreeManna replied to Fairy Dancer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Corn is one of those foods that is hard to digest. If you're new to gluten-free you may just have a rather sensitive digestive system. I couldn't do a lot of raw veggies or beans in the beginning because my system was too sensitive. Now I don't seem to have problem with veggies and beans. Give it about 6 months for some healing to take place and then... -
ARCHIVED Just Glutened Myself Alot On Purspose To Identify Reactions
GlutenFreeManna replied to shayre's topic in Super Sensitive People
My major reactions (joint pain, fatigue, and other neuro symptoms mostly) can take up to two days to show up. You very well could have something else going on besides gluten intolerance, but I don't know what that could be since you said most of your symptoms resolved or got better gluten-free. Sorry you're having such a hard time deciding what to do! -
ARCHIVED Hair Getting Less Grey After Gluten Free
GlutenFreeManna replied to Austin Guy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My hair has always had white-blonde streaks in it. When I was really sick it was straw-like, tangled so badly I broke several brushes trying to get the knots out and it was falling out in clumps. Within 6 months of being gluten-free my hair started to get soft again and the lightest blonde parts grew out darker blonde, the underlying blonde part grew in... -

Welcome! I love making fresh corn tortillas too. I had a dinner party where one of my friends claimed he hated corn tortillas but he LOVED the fresh ones I made. They are a completely different texture/taste from the premade ones. -
ARCHIVED Clarification Please
GlutenFreeManna replied to chrissyinnj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would love to pick the dr's brain about this a little more and see what his context is for making this statement. Is he talking about only people who are diagnosed in older age or everyone? It seems like a very generalized statement to make and doesn't really make sense when you conside r the difference between people diagnosed early in life and people... -
ARCHIVED Clarification Please
GlutenFreeManna replied to chrissyinnj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, a positive on celiac bloodwork indicates they are for sure celiac. Biopsies can miss the damage--the dr may not take enough biopsies, damage can be patchy (they are not able to see it during the endo only after they take a sample out and put it under a microscope), or dammage can be in one place and endoscopy does not reach the entire length of the intestines... -
ARCHIVED Cleaning A Wok?
GlutenFreeManna replied to kellynolan82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For cast iron you will need to reseason it in the oven like Karen said. This involves just baking it at a high temp until the seasoned surface is baked off. Then you start over making it seasoned with oil. Do a search on how to reseason a cast iron pan and I'm sure you will find a step-by-step somewhere. -

I can't speak for the others, but my feathers were not ruffled at all by what you wrote. I totally get that you don't want you kid's school to think this is just some fad or lifestyle choice. You want them to take it seriously so you kid won't be poisioned. I want people to take it seriously too. That's why I suggested alternate sources if you are looking... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
GlutenFreeManna replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm a member of Freecycle in my area. I seriously wouldn't GIVE most of this stuff away. We did try putting things out by the trash can on trash day and posted a "curb alert" on craigslist. The only things taken were the weedeaters. Probably for scrap metal or by someone that's goign to try to fix them (FIL swears they are easy to fix but we just didn... -

I will send it all up to you. The chairs don't fold but they do stack. They are this style: Open Original Shared Link They will make a nice statement in the dorm with the cooler coffee table and the broken weedeater artwork. She'll be the envy of all her friends. -

GlutenFreeManna replied to chrissyinnj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is not much research done yet on gluten intolerance. That's why you are finding conflicting info. Many things out there are based on opinions and personal experience instead of research. It is my opinion that celiac disease is just one form of gluten intolerance and in the future they may have other forms of gluten intolerance that they can test... -

Sure, as long as she doesn't mind having her new dorm room filled with random stuff from their garage...I'm sure they can help! So...I never did an invetory of what they brought us: Two non-working weedwackers. Yes, we did need one of these but we asked them to check if they worked before bringing them to us. we had to go buy a new one the... -

If you are looking for somethign to show to your kids' school to educate them about celiac it would be better to show them somethign from a peer-review journal article or a respected medical institution. ARCHIVED Good gluten-free Pizza Crust Recipe!
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't made this recipe but most recipes involving yeast require you to "proof" the yeast first and also let it rise. This recipe just has you throwing everything into the bowl and mixing it, which explains why the crust didn't rise at all. Which is really strange because it has all the components you need to proof the yeast first. Ideally, what you... -
ARCHIVED Can't Get Rid Off A Salmonella Infection
GlutenFreeManna replied to leo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Raven. Salmonella is usually treated with antibiotics, not a dietary change. If you have celiac then you will never be able to eat gluten again. His telling you to just try gluten-free for a few months and then you should be "healed" enough to eat it again is all wrong if he is suspecting celiac or even gluten intolerance. You need to go back... -
ARCHIVED Cleaning A Wok?
GlutenFreeManna replied to kellynolan82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What is it made out of? If stainless steel you can just scour it really well, if it has a non-stick coating you may not be able to save it. Gluten from all those soy sauces has most likey steeped into the scratches in the non stick coating and you will only be making contaminated food in it. -
ARCHIVED Ideas For Snacks On The Go - When Having Alot Of Intolerances And Super Sensitive?!
GlutenFreeManna replied to paige350z's topic in Super Sensitive People
First, if you don't already have one get a small insulated lunch bag that you can stick an ice pack in to take with you. Next, get a bunch of little containers to keep your food fresh. Third, prep all your fruit and veggies at once (for 4-5 days worth if you are eating them every day) Okay, ideas of snacks/portable food based on your list here... -
ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm glad this thread got bumped up again. I've been bad about eatign breakfast lately. I had some corn chips and roasted red pepper hummus around 10:30 this morning so I guess that was breakfast. I need to get back to eatign healthy breakfasts again! Thanks for the inspiration, y'all. -
ARCHIVED Better Batter Flour
GlutenFreeManna replied to zus888's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gluten-free flours respond differently than wheat flours. You can't expect to just substitute cup for cup in most existing recipes. You will either need to play with the amount of liquid or add some other ingredients to make up for the difference in flour. Often the "dough" you get for a gluten-free recipe is nothing like the dough was for a gluten recipe... -
ARCHIVED Reactions To Enjoy Life Products
GlutenFreeManna replied to shayre's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Definitely watch the hubby closer. My husband has gluttened me just by eating fast food and then driving my car. When I drove after him then I got glutened. Now he knows the rule is he has to wash his hands after eating gluteny stuff. Fortunately, he doesn't eat it very often anyway because I send most of his lunches from home and we are 100% gluten... -
ARCHIVED Which Ingredient Am I Allergic To?
GlutenFreeManna replied to hy525's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you able to eat gluten-free oats? Bob's Red Mill processes gluten-free oats in the same facility as their other gluten-free products. I cannot tolerate even gluten-free oats and therefore I cannot use any Bob's Red Mill products. There are a couple other people on the board that found the same problem--we get sick from Bob's flours, even though they... -
ARCHIVED Rudi's Gluten Free Multigrain Bread
GlutenFreeManna replied to Ginsou's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the reminder! I believe someone else here reported finding it in a Northern Virginia Costco. I need to check my store. I don't currently have a Costco membership but if they carry Rudi's I will get one just for that! Rudi's is my favorite over that other one with the simialar sounding name too.
