  1. Was planning on burgers (I ended up buying beef today) but hubby had to work late and wasn't in the mood to grill. I didn't feel like cooking so I made some Tinkyada spaghetti and meat sauce with the beef.
  2. Are you keeping a journal of what your eat and your reactions? My gluten reactions usually do not start until 24-48 hours AFTER I get contaminated. The only exception is if I get a large amount (like when I was given regualr pasta instead of gluten-free pasta at a restaurant). In those cases I'm very sick within 20 minutes and usually start throwing up...
  3. I have not checked with them but I have not had any problems (I really only contact companies if I suspect a problem). I'm pretty sure just from looking at their website that Olive oil is the only oil Bertolli makes. They also make some pasta meals but those products would not be made on the same equipment (and maybe not even in the same factory). I consider...
  4. I'm still thinking about this issue and trying to decide how to respond/comment. I really hope those are typo's! Would love to read some other's thoughts and comments on this.
  5. I use Bertolli Light olive oil. I get it in 3 L containers from BJ's for around $13-$16.
  6. What is your method of washing the oatmeal bowls after they eat it? And do you wash your hands really good after you handle the bowls? For a while, our house was gluten-free except for my husband's oatmeal. We know for sure that he glutened me a few times by kissing me after eating it. We also had trouble with the bowls getting washed in the sink with...
  7. I've never had a problem with anything from Enjoy Life. Maybe you are sensitive to chocolate? What are your symptoms?
  8. I started to have some trouble with corn syrup (esp HFCS) and anything made with corn oil (fritos, some types of tortilla chips). They give me heartburn and sometimes even make me cough violently to the point of coughing them back up. I don't seem to have any trouble with other forms of corn though. I use xanthan and corn starch in baking, eat corn on...
  9. Thanks for the warning! I haven't bought my meat yet. I was planning on getting it tommorrow morning. I don't know if the recalled brands are in my stores or not but I guess I will go with bison or chicken just to be safe. I'm sure we'll grill year round too now that we have a place we are allowed to grill (before we were in an apt that wouldn't even...
  10. Just saw this comment, so sorry for the late reply. Thanks! The move was a little stressful but it is all over now. Most things are unpacked, a few things are still finding homes. My only snag right now is my dishwasher isn't working. The repair person already came once. At first it didn't work at all--no water was comign out, only steam. After the repair...
  11. Without knowing exactly what tests your dr ran, it's hard to say what the results mean. Here's a factsheet that talks about the celiac antibody tests: Open Original Shared Link If you print it out and plan to give it to your dr highlight the names of the tests you need and explain you want to have the complete panel. Many drs will only run one test and...
  12. Thanks for the update Loey! I hope he sees another dr that can help. If he has Lupus or RA I've heard a small percentage of people find a gluten-free diet to help relieve their symptoms. So maybe you could suggest it, but sounds like he's a typical stubborn teen. I'll pray for his health and for Clark's interview.
  13. Yeast extract is gluten-free. However, you may also be sensitive to yeast extract in addition to gluten. I avoid anything processed with yeast extract in it for this reason. I seem to be fine with yeast now when I bake with it but I can't do yeast extract--it causes bloating for me. HTH!
  14. I've never seen it before. Does it have xanthan gum in it already? If not that might be part of the problem. If you still have lots of the flour to use up, why don't you try making a recipe from their website instead of just subbing it in a wheat-flour based recipe? You're more likely to have good results using a recipe that was written for the flour...
  15. Try this recipe: Open Original Shared Link It's the best I have found so far. The crust comes out thick and fluffy almost like a pizza hut pizza. It does require a mixer but I just use my little hand mixer instead of a stand mixer. For cakes--pamela's cake mix is the best I have found. Betty crocker is just okay--the chocolate is good but the yellow...
  16. I understand that you are having cravings. When I get glutened I have those weird cravings too but I just eat gluten-free stuff that will make me feel better instead. After the one experience I had about 6 months ago I would not chance eating large amounts of gluten no matter how bad the cc got me. I ordered gluten-free pasta at a restaurant with a gluten...
  17. Yep sounds like the bowling balls got you! Sorry! Bowling allies aren't exactly very clean anyway (at least the ones I've been in) and seem to be popular places for people to drink a bunch of beer and eat pizza. So even if your group had not had pizza there's no telling what the people that touched the balls and the sink handles in the restroom and the...
  18. I think they would come there Carangee....They came here when it was 102 and felt 120....So they seem to like the heat very much. An island might just be the perfect place to hide except FIL has a boat. I wouldn't put it past them to decide to sail up the coast and "bring me some things I needed". as long as I can hid ein the chicken coop for a...
  19. I don't eat out anyplace that doesn't have a gluten-free menu and even then I only have a couple options that have been consistently safe and always take great care. In the cases where I ate at a place with a gluten-free menu and still got sick I could almost have predicted it based on the responses of my servers when I asked for gluten-free. I had one place...
  20. We had steaks on our new grill, baked potatoes and steamed broccoli. Simple and yummy! I've missed grilled food!
  21. I shall be coming to live with you very soon I think. Not only do you have cuddly entertaining chickens but you give spa treatments and have a freezer full of grassfed beef! I do my own dishes and don't take up much space, I promise. And maybe my inlaws won't find me at your place.
  22. So sorry abotu your (son?). I hope they will figure it all out soon. Does he have celiac? The bloody stool thing happens to me when I get a large amount of gluten cc, and back in the day when I was in college I bled out of my ears the mornings after I drank beer. I stopped drinking for the most part before I even turned 21 because I got so sick from just...
  23. I think you win the family drama award. My IL's are a dream compared to your dad and his floosie! Sorry
  24. I have multiple life-threatening food allergies requiring an epipen and I also have celiac. I got an allergy alert bracelet from Lauren's Hope, but all my food allergies would not fit. They reccomended (and I went with) the following wording: First name Last Name Celiac Disease Multiple Severe Food Allergies Carries Epipen Then I made...
